Review Summary

Alma offers a refined and intimate dining experience in Montreal, focusing on high-end Mexican cuisine that highlights local ingredients and meticulous technique. While many guests praise the exceptional service, creative tasting menus, and thoughtful wine pairings that elevate the meal, opinions regarding value remain divided. Supporters celebrate the restaurant as a unique culinary destination with standout dishes and a warm atmosphere, whereas some patrons express concerns about portion sizes, pricing, and the consistency of flavor profiles. Overall, it is regarded as a passionate effort to showcase sophisticated Mexican flavors, though it remains a polarizing choice depending on individual expectations of value and satiety.

Service & vibes were excellent. Food was overall pretty good, but could use some more refining. For example, the shrimp taco was very bland, the tetala could have used more sweet potato, & the beef tongue had wayy too much mayo. However, the corn madeleines & queso fresco were delightful, & we loved the crudo. The portions were tiny, we had the 9 course menu for 2 & it felt like we split a set course for one. We had to eat elsewhere after, despite paying 280$ already.

Visiting Alma was one of my top dining experiences ever. A well curated tasting menu, wonderful drink pairings both alcoholic & non alcoholic. The service was incredible, attentive & knowledgeable staff served the dishes & explained each one. We sat at the counter & had a great view of the kitchen & food prep. A very small & intimate dining experience makes sure you get a reservation in advance. We'd been interested in eating here in a previous visit & couldn't get a reservation. However it is more than worth the wait & the hype!

Had a wonderful experience here & was very happy I got to experience this restaurant. I tried a few years ago when I was in Montreal & I wasn't able to get a reservation. It was worth the wait the food was fantastic, a very creative fused menu with excellent service. The ambiance was also great. Low light with a lot of candles. It's a very small restaurant so it feels very private. Hats off to the chef for putting together a fantastic tasting menu.

Excessivement dispendieux (très) & service incroyablement long service.

A cool dining experience with an impressive Spanish wine collection.

It was good, but nothing more. The food was interesting, but left us a little hungry (note that I limited myself to the smallest menu offered) & was inconsistent. The wine...I don't understand how its price is justified, I understand the rarity of the products but the quality was missing. The experience was good all in all, but the price was hard to justify for a wine bar, approx. $325 for 4 glasses of wine & two very light 5-course meals. Even if the food is objectively more gourmet than a typical wine bar, Alma seems overpriced.
