We had a fantastic tasting menu experience at Alma. All of the food was delicious, especially the tacos, duck & bunuelo. The theme was corn, & it was incorporated into the dishes. Our server also took the time to answer all of our questions. It is a small restaurant with few seats, so making a reservation is recommended.
Alma is a nice place to go. A rare Mexican fine cuisine restaurant. Service is not yet up to the fine restaurant standard, friendly, polite but lack of that special care, knowledge, ease & attitude we used to find in fine restaurants.
It's great to have a Mexican fine cuisine in Montreal. Dishes are nice & fresh. Menu choice of dishes are large, ranking from Catalan influence to Mexican style. I can sense great chefs efforts to elevetate Mexican cuisine. The results could be difficult for most people to appreciate at it true value.
On a table of 5, all ranked it nice, but only 2 of us had the wow experience thru the palate.
Be aware, so you won't be shocked, some dishes are'degustation' type fine dishes with no bigger portions than the ones found in 2-3 starred restaurant. I can easily see they are done with great care, great passion, great innovation effort, but may convoit anger if client is not aware of.
For better overall satisfaction, staff may gain spending more time to educate clients on the effort the chef is trying to elevate the degustation side of these specific fine mexican dishes.
I liked the place, but wouldn't recommend it to bring any type of guest there, except those having deep pockets & love to discover new, esoteric blend of fine tastes & flavors.

Quelle expérience magnifique. 10/10 sur toute la ligne, du service impeccable aux plats riches en saveurs en passant par les vins qui les accompagnent parfaitement. Nous sommes venus pour célébrer & Alma (& toute son équipe) a largement dépassé nos attentes. C'est un endroit haut de gamme sans prétention tout en restant chaleureux. We came on a Thursday at 6pm so it was pretty quiet. We had a really great experience. I read a lot of mixed reviews & wasn't sure what to expect. Yes it's expensive yes the portions are fairly small. But the food was very very good, the people were really nice & not pretentious what so ever (easy to come across in the high end restaurants). The ambiance was nice. Wine was good! I didn't do the full pairing more just did 1/2 glasses as it made sense. I would come back & certainly recommend to others

Very cozy little restaurant in Outremont. It's small & intimate. Reservations are recommended because there are only about 20 seats. They offer a tasting menu of high-end Mexican cuisine. We took the 5-course tasting menu because my parents don't eat much. Service here is impeccable. The waitress was very friendly & knowledgeable. The dishes were nicely presented & very tasty. My favourite dishes are the clam & the fish crudo. Very happy that I got to taste these amazing dishes made by Juan.

Nous avons pris le Menu Carte Blanche & c était simplement parfait! Nous avons adoré. Tous les plats étaient delicieux. Je recommende fortement ce restaurant. Bravo à tout l'équipe!

This has to be the best restaurant in Montreal. Full of heart & soul, the food is outstanding & so innovative. I absolutely recommend this restaurant to all my family & friends, & out of towners. You have to experience this, do yourself a favour!

Notre expérience dans ce restaurant n'a pas été à la hauteur des attentes pour un établissement gastronomique. Nous avions choisi le menu dégustation cinq plats, à 200$ pour deux personnes sans alcool, espérant une expérience culinaire mémorable. Malheureusement, les saveurs, bien que correctes, manquaient de caractère & d'assaisonnement, donnant une impression de simplicité qui ne justifiait pas le prix élevé. Les portions étaient également très petites, ce qui a accentué notre déception compte tenu du coût. Nous avons eu le sentiment de ne pas en avoir pour notre argent, en sus des saveurs décevantes. Bien que le personnel ait été aimable & attentif, cela n'a pas suffi à compenser le rapport qualité-prix désavantageux. En fin de compte, nous sommes repartis avec l'impression que les tarifs pratiqués sont excessifs par rapport à la qualité de la cuisine proposée. Nous ne recommandons pas ce restaurant à ceux qui recherchent une expérience gastronomique à la hauteur de leur investissement.
I would give them 10 stars if I could. This is my favourite restaurant in Montreal. Chef Juan's creativity & skills is unmatched while wine aficionado Lindsay is providing customers with the best wine selection in the city. The way they make feel regulars like old friends & the restaurant's homie & cozy atmosphere is some of the reasons why I always recommend it & will always go back. PS: you should also try their other restaurant (right next door), Tinc Set. They have amazing tapas with amazing wine & the same extraordinaire duo.

Très belle découverte à Montréal Nous avons été conquis par les plats de ce restaurant. Un grand merci à Muriel pour son accueil chaleureux & ses recommandations au niveau des vins. L'ambiance est très agréable, nous avons passé un excellent moment ! Merci
Quelle expérience incroyable. J'ai amène mon fils pour une soirée avec lui. Ne sachant pas s'il allait aimer, nous avons pris le menu découverte 5 services plutôt que celui carte blanche. Même ainsi on vous propose le reste si jamais vous souhaitez compléter. On a tous les deux être ravis. Installés au bar on voyait en plus le chef & sa brigade s'activer en cuisine. Dans une ancienne feutrée & décontractée, calme (on s'entend très bien parler ce qui est également très agréable), on découvrait chaque plat avec émerveillement : c'était dans un plaisir visuel avant des explosions de saveurs avec des textures & des goûts qui sortent de l'ordinaire. C'est certain que je le recommande & que j'y retournerai, cette fois pour l'expérience complète.
My experience at this restaurant was unforgettable. Every time a plate is brought to your table, it is explained what it is & the ingredients. I would suggest to mention whether a plate is spicy or not. The portions were perfect, we were very satisfied. The perfect sensation after eating good food. I find it a place to celebrate special occasions. Alma is expensive & it was worth it to me. Check the prices before if you do not want to be surprised as some people said in the comments. Great wine & food comes with a price. Finally, the waitress are very professional, knowledgeable in customer service & kind. I would definitely recommend it & come back for future celebrations.
