Well I was seated within 5 minutes, & service started promptly right after.
I was served hot coffee & then told that when my waitress returned, she would take my order.
She promptly returned & took my order by noting it down.
Eggs served buttery, bacon crispy & potato's delicious & well seasoned. French toast sweet & soft with fruits being fresh.
Coffee refills were made throughout my service.
Not much to complain about here.
I've heard that there's a tipping issue happening here, but when in Rome, you must live like the Roman's. Drink their wine & water. Follow the rules.
I promptly tipped 20% & paid my bill when I was about to leave as this was beyond exceptional service & food for a breakfast chain.
Side note: bathrooms are clean & fresh
I visited this restaurant a few weeks ago as a tourist. Overall, the experience was actually very good-the food was delicious, the atmosphere was nice, & the staff were very friendly. The server checked on me several times during the meal to make sure everything was okay. I was originally planning to leave a five-star review.
However, something happened during checkout that made me a bit uncomfortable. The server told me that 9% of the tip goes to the government & that he personally only receives 3%, implying that I needed to pay an 11% tip. I gave him $5, but he asked me to add another $4, saying that if I wasn't happy about it, he could refund it-but I didn't try to get it back. Later, after consulting ChatGPT, I learned that this explanation does not match the actual regulations in Montreal or Canada.
In addition, I noticed in the reviews that someone mentioned arguing with a server after refusing to tip. I'm not sure if that's true, but based on my own experience, I can somewhat understand how that unpleasant situation might have happened.
Aside from the tipping issue, I was very satisfied with everything else. However, this experience made me feel misled, which affected my overall impression. I hope the restaurant can improve its staff training in this area to make the dining experience truly excellent.
Food was great as usual. However the server left a bad taste in my mouth at the end. When I payed my bill at the end & tipped as much as i could (a bit less than 15%) she asked me if i know how tipping works. I explained that i do since i worked as a server & i said i tipped as much as i can afford to. She told me that 10% of the tip goes to the government so she wasnt making any money. It made me feel uncomfortable & unnecessarily guilty. Not sure if i'll be back especially if the tipping lecture is standard practice.
Great food..very tasty. Nice atmosphere. only complaint is that the waitress actually told one of my friends that he didn't tip her. I was shocked. We were at least 15 people who all tipped her so for her to call out 1 person for not tipping her & THEN calling out that person for not tipping enough. Ridiculous!! Last time I checked, tipping is an option
