49th Parallel Micro-Torréfacteur Cafe opens its doors in Montreal at its first ever location outside of British Columbia in the summer of 2021. Finding and creating this space was a long, occasionally challenging but always interesting process that took over a year to complete!
The space itself, its location in the heart of Old Montreal and the building’s history were an obvious draw. This was a labour of love from all the people involved in the project, from the contractor to the designer – everyone came together to preserve the charm of the old building with its exposed 100 year old bricks and stone masonry while bringing it to life with a sleek retro design.
Our fourth Café features the 49th coffee everyone knows and loves, Lucky’s donut menu revamped with reimagined Quebec classics and a full kitchen featuring breakfast egg burgers and seasonal brunch offerings (coming soon).
Overall, reviews of the café known as 49th Parallel Café Lucky's Doughnuts describe a popular Old Montreal spot with strong coffee and a tempting pastry selection, especially its donuts which are large, indulgent, and often delicious, though some customers find them too sweet, dry, or pricey. Coffee quality ranges from well brewed, single origin and smooth to burnt or inconsistent, with reports of pastries not being fresh or stock from previous days. The atmosphere is repeatedly praised as cozy, stylish, and conducive to work or catching up with friends, with reliable wifi and ample seating, but crowding or loud music can detract. Service receives mixed feedback: friendly and efficient at times, sometimes slow or brusque, and a few disappointments with staff interactions. Location in Old Montreal is a draw, and reviewers linger for long stays or grab quick takeout. Overall, it is a beloved yet pricey destination that excels in donuts and ambiance more than uniform value across visits.
The doughnuts are giant & so rich in flavour. I chose the salt caramel one & it was glossy & delicious. The coffee & teas were good as well. The atmosphere was a little loud & crowded but that only reflects how good they are.
Many sitting places to take a coffee & pastries. They have so many different options & interesting flavours. I got pudding chômeur & it was GOOD. I find a price is ok for the size of donut, good customer service & relaxing ambiance.

A vibrant & quite energetic looking cafe, i went looking for some donuts & found some really great looking ones here. The staff was okay, straight to the point, i got my donut & left, eager to eat it once i got home just a mere walk away. I realised though, that the donut's icing was quite.. moist? For lack of better word, & the fact that its put into a paper bag foretold a disaster! & as was foretold, the donut did not intend to provide me with a satisfying experience, as pictured. I tasted the icing though, & it was sweet! It would have been really good if it wasn't... like this. I tried a bit of the donut as well & it was already quite stale. Perhaps this was never meant to be a good experience to begin with :( a true shame. I would have loved to try their other flavours at the time but it was already empty at around 3pm. Would have given another chance if i were still in montreal
Best donuts I've everrr had!! The flavours rotate so everything I come there's new donuts to try & the flavours are so vivid. They use quality ingredients & the donuts are always fresh! Delicious espresso & espresso based drinks as well!
I love their vegan donuts but I wish that after all this time they would add some more flavours especially since it cost $5.75 for one after tax & they put more expensive ingredients & more time into the non-vegan ones - which they charge less for.
On a cold winter morning, I decided to order a hot chocolate here. I also took the opportunity to taste their vegan donuts. They have assorted flavours (matcha, rainbow sprinkles, red fruits & flowers, sprinkled candy, triple chocolate, vanilla). I'm so delighted, the vegan donuts are also gluten-free! They are baked instead of fried. The glaze is sooo sweet, it feels heavy to eat these for breakfast. 😵💫 The hot chocolate came out with pretty latte art. 😍 However, my throat felt scorched dry for the rest of the day after drinking it. 🔥 I suspect the roasted cacao to be the culprit.
Pleasant place to sit down. I enjoyed the cold drink while I read my book. The staff were nice too. There's a good variety of doughnut, some less typical flavours. The one I bought was disappointing though; the dough felt like frozen fried paper. But at least its icing was flavourful.

Lovely place, nice staff but everything is so much overpriced for what you get. The donuts are good but some lacks a bit of flavour. Specialty coffee is very good but you can find equivalent elsewhere. I don't care paying a premium for something special but still, I think this is overpriced. You should try it & judge by yourself if it's worth the price.
I ordered a box of 8 donuts via ubereats, the description stated it would have 4 filled & 4 regular donuts. I received 1 filled donut & 7 boring normal donuts... One of which was super stale/hard. You can imagine my disappointment upon opening the box & not even finding 4 filled donuts! Super disappointing for 35$. They didn't read my instructions specifically requesting certain flavours, either. I wanted some tiramisu donuts as I was specifically craving them but didn't even get one in the box. The donuts are tasty & the service in person is good, the workers are kind, but beware you may get a sad pick of donuts if you order an assorted box. I've had their hot chocolate & it was almost 9$ & pretty disappointing...
We passed by for some coffee & lucky's doughnuts & quite frankly... Both were underwhelming. The place was absolutely packed, & rolling. The line never got smaller the entire time we were there so we can only conclude that it is pretty popular. Honestly, we're not sure why. The coffee is extremely acidic & bitter. Not at all warm comfort you want on the type of cold windy day we were experiencing. As for the donuts, the level of freshness left a lot to be desired. There are many different flavours with various fillings & toppings but the overall quality does not really justify the price. As previously stated ; there were a lot of people & we were still served fairly quickly, which is a positive. The ability of the staff to manage under pressure is important at a busy coffee shop but otherwise overall a dissapointing product all around. Will not return, would not recommend to anyone we like.
Donuts are huge & amazing flavour, as is their coffee options. (Real coffee flavour) Available hot or iced for most beverages. Seating & atmosphere was very pretty.

I’m not normally a beignet person but this place is the exception.
49th parallel has excellent beignets, every day they have a few specials which are difficult to resist. Delicious, fresh & with flavours you won’t find anywhere else, their beignets are a must in Montreal.
Their sandwiches are also quite good.
I took the citron fromage beignet & my friend had the peanut butter & jelly.
