La Boqueria: New Mediterranean Tapas Bar in Old Montreal

La Boqueria, a new restaurant serving Spanish and Mediterranean cuisine, will open its doors on April 8, 2024 on de la Commune Street in Old Montreal's Old Port. Located next to the Mexican restaurant La Catrina, La Boqueria is operated by the same partners, drawing its name from the renowned market in Barcelona.

The partners of the La Catrina group, well known in Old Montreal for having opened La Catrina in 2018, have decided to open a new Spanish cuisine restaurant, as there are few restaurants of this kind in the area.

Atmosphere

The cozy atmosphere, in a soothing palette of beige tones, offers around forty seats indoors and about 60 seats on the terrace, which will open in mid-May. The decor, entirely designed by their team, is inspired by southern Spain with decorative elements directly from Spain, original brick walls painted in white, tables and a wooden bar to add warmth, light fixtures adorned with natural straw, and lovely Spanish-style terracotta tiling.

An Impressive Chef

Executive chef, originally from Colombia, David Melo Rubio, is in charge of the kitchen and creates Spanish dishes using fresh and local products. David has gained experience in the kitchens of the most renowned establishments worldwide, as well as in several Michelin-starred restaurants, including Brooklyn Fare in New York, Mugaritz in Spain, Esporao in Portugal, and Pied à Terre in London.

Freshness on the Menu

The menu offers a wide selection of popular tapas, including the famous croquetas de jamón ibérico, the classic pan con tomate, and fried artichokes with romesco sauce. You will also find shareable paellas, grilled meats accompanied by delicious patatas bravas, as well as a superb ice bar offering fresh fish, shrimp, and other daily arrivals.

The cocktail selection, designed by Nectar and Mixologie, features classic drinks reimagined with a Spanish twist, such as the Jerez Colada, the Boquejito, and a surprising sangria with red wine and mango.

La Boqueria will also be open for lunch when many restaurants in Old Montreal are closed.
