Pork look old & dry. If you get the chicken instead you would get big pieces of chicken thighs that they call teriyaki chicken but looks more like steamed chicken. Chicken garage was good nothing out of this world. They should make better ramensView more
I'm so sad this ramen has gone quite downhill from since I first started going years ago. the pork used to be fatty & tender but now flat & dry, the kara miso wasn't as complex as I remembered, broth pretty mid, & they somehow made the shiitake flavourless. I used to drink all the broth at the end but I barely wanted to finish the bowl this time. we also had the spicy karaage & it was very one note.
also what's up with the far corner table?? the two person bench is ridiculous & uncomfortable to manoeuvre. the service wasn't spectacular either; I filled out my form, went to the washroom, came back & the server still hadn't took it. I went up to the cash to put our orders in.
this was my favourite ramen out of any spot in montreal/toronto/vancouver at one point but now I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.View more
I visited Yokato Yokabai for the first time on a chilly, rainy Saturday afternoon with a friend, & it turned out to be a cozy, unforgettable experience. The restaurant's vibe immediately set a welcoming tone-its intimate setting, with warm lighting & beautiful Japanese wall murals complemented by wooden accents, made it feel like stepping into a little slice of Japan. Since it was early & only the ramen bar was open, we had to wait about 40 minutes for a seat, but it was well worth it. We were seated right in front of the chefs, which was a treat as we watched them skillfully prepare the ramen.

In depth review:
To start, we shared the pork gyoza with a peanut sauce, which had a perfect balance of flavors-crispy & savory with a little sweetness from the sauce. But the real star of the meal was the ramen. I opted for the torikotsu, which is a chicken broth ramen with thin noodles & chicken teriyaki as my protein. My friend went for the tonkotsu, which featured a rich pork broth with tender slices of pork & thin noodles. Both dishes were exceptional, with each bite bursting with flavor. The broth was so comforting, rich without being overwhelming, & the noodles were perfectly cooked.
There was a water jug on our table, but the menu didn't mention any drinks, so we weren't sure if we needed to ask specifically for something else. We weren't offered any additional beverages, which left us wondering if this was the usual practice.
To top it off, there was a special deal-ramen & a yuzu panna cotta dessert for just $25, which felt like an amazing value. The panna cotta was smooth & subtly tangy, a perfect way to end the meal.
Though the space was a bit tight, it added to the charm, & it was clear this is a place where people come together to enjoy great food & a relaxed atmosphere.
In the end, Yokato Yokabai is a hidden gem in Montreal's Plateau neighborhood. Whether you're craving a bowl of ramen on a cold day or just looking for a cozy spot to unwind, this place delivers authentic, comforting Japanese food at an excellent price. I'll definitely be back, but during a less busy traffic time when all the rooms are open.View more
The best ramen I've ever had the pleasure of trying. I often have a hard time finishing my meal in one sitting especially when dining out, but had no such difficulty here. Every element from the broth to the noodles to the pork & toppings was absolutely delicious & amazingly flavorful. It takes a lot for me to want to write a review for a restaurant but this one was absolutely worth it. A must try in Montréal!View more
Good ramen, but unless you take all the topping that adds to the base price you get broth, 2 slice of pork & some noodle. So to have a'real' ramen you probably have to pay 30$+tips+taxes. Which brings you close to 100$ for two ramens. You can pay 4$ for 2 slice of pork.
Overall good ramen but not worth the price sorryView more
I can see why this place gets busy....num num num yummy with that extra num num num. Ate at the chill ramen side, loved the sesame broth very unique. Portion of meat generous.... loved that they have 3 broth options that dont have pork. Num num num chicken ramen : )View more
They have excellent ramen. I liked the pork ramen.View more
Best pork bun & tapas. Lots of menu items were out but still worth itView more
I've been to several ramen restaurants &, although there is some pretty stiff competition, Yokato Yokabai still stands as the best place to get ramen in Montreal. They have not only the best ramen but also the best entrées & sides & they have great cocktails as well (Shiso Sour being my favourite). They also have, by far, the best pork & rice bowl (chashu don) out of all the ramen places. You could just order tapas & still come out of it with a great experience. The menu is that good. This is also the place where I had plum wine for the first time & I've been in love ever since. I've lost count of the amount of times me & my best friend have been here. Yokato Yakabai is, quite literally, the best.View more
Tiny place, big taste. I don't think I've ever had such rich broth in ramen before-absolutely delicious. The eggs were perfectly cooked, & the pork was tender. This is one of the best ramen spots I've tried in Montreal. The place is tiny, though, so be prepared to squeeze into your seat!View more
Excellent!! Amazing taste (pork & chicken broth). Superb bite on the homemade noodles! One of the best Ramen shops I have ever been to - including the ones in Japan!View more
Really enjoyed the experience! The food was worth the wait, Saturday night is vey busy. We took the Kaarage (fried chicken) & the Chashu Don (Braised Pork rice) & Ramen soups that are personalized to your liking. Oh & do take the lemon ice cream. Service was quick & courteous. It felt like we were transported in Japan, sitting at the bar, looking at the chefs making their magic!View more
YY has the best tonkatsu ramen in Montreal hands down! Their pork chashu is the right amount of tender, their pork broth is absolutely addicting & consistent, & their restaurant's atmosphere reminds me a lot of my travels to Tokyo. Whenever I miss authentic tonkatsu ramen, I know I can rely on YY. Keep it up, YY! 10/10View more
Best pork broth ramen we tasted in Montreal. Enjoyed the authentic ramen stall ambience. Great service from a helpful waiter.View more
Stopped for a quick ramen with my son who lives in Montreal & loves this place - I can see why. The ramen broth was out of this world - flavourful, rich, indescribable! The noodles were perfect, the pork was perfect, everything was perfect, except, perhaps, the egg, which was kind of pungent. Did not spoil the dish, though. We also shared some crispy chicken "bites" - just as delicious as the ramen. Two ramen & the shared chicken was too much; we had to take a couple pieces of chicken home. All in all, I see why our so e loves this place, & if I lived in Montreal I'd soon become a regular. We walked by a couple times & there were lineups - obviously it's a popular spot.View more
The tonkatsu (pork broth) is to die for!! It has a beautiful miso-y flavour & manages to be savoury & rich without feeling too heavy. I can't speak for the other broths, but the pork will not disappoint.View more
Went there for dinner on a Tuesday night. It was fairly busy, but I was seated quickly. I had the Tonkotsu ramen, which was exquisitely rich, a little thick even. Compared to other Tonkotsu I've had before, this one is definitely more complex in flavor, & it really lingers on the palate. The noodles were great, but definitely not enough, I'm definitely ordering an extra serving next time, or some gyozas to go with the ramen. It did however come with two massive cuts of very flavorful pork shoulder to make up for it. Not a fan of the counter seat (the serving counter overhangs the table area so when you lean in, your head can bump the counter), will go to a table seat next time.View more
We took two ramen here to take away, one was with chicken, the other was with pork, both were good, but I can't say that this is the best Ramen I've tried. For me, kinton is the constant standard for ramen, I just need to know which chain to choose, hehe. I noticed the decor with one eye, a little dark, but in traditional colors, the price is too high friends, I can say that for sure, but thank you, it's okView more
The food was amazing, the pork was so soft & tasty! The staff was very lovely & attentive. We will come back here for sure!!!View more
The ramen was very delicious & flavourful. I really enjoyed the fact that you can customize your salt preferences & toppings, such as green onions, pork belly or vegetables & adding seaweed & egg. The broth was very tasty & the noodles were fresh. I got the thin noodles, but they also offer thick ones. The atmosphere was very nice & the waiter was helpful. The wait time for the ramen was about 5-10 minutes. It's a great lunch spot, but they also have a dinner menu.View more
The Ramen (pork broth & thin noodles) was excellent! It was rich & creamy. Our server was helpful. You can actually see in the hall the noodles being made downstairs. I would highly recommend this place. I'd come back too. Just a note, this place is hidden in plain site. You'll walk right by it, not even realizing it. It doesn't look like a store front. The price was right for the quality & experience for two. Thank you!View more
I recently visited this ramen restaurant & was extremely impressed with both the food & service. I started off with the octopus balls, or T akoyaki, which were perfectly cooked & bursting with flavor. The tasty pork ramen that followed was also outstanding, with rich broth & tender slices of pork. To top off the meal, I enjoyed a refreshing white beer that I can't quite recall the name, I do remember how well it complimented the flavors of the meal. Speaking of the staff, they were incredibly friendly & accommodating throughout my visit. They made excellent recommendations, were attentive to my needs, & overall provided a top-notch dining experience. Overall, I highly recommend this ramen restaurant for anyone looking for a delicious & satisfying meal. The octopus balls, pork ramen, & accompanying beer were all highlights of my visit, & I will definitely be returning soon.View more
I know everyone loves this place, & it was good but it's so small & cramped. The pork was so tough in the ramen, & the broth lacked flavour. Thankfully they brought chili oil to the table. I liked the noodles, but overall wasn't super impressed unfortunately.View more
A disappointing experience with an average bowl of ramen. I was very enthusiastic about eating here as reviews were mostly positive & the place was specialized in ramen. The personnel was supper friendly & attentive, & the atmosphere was cozy & it almost make you felt as you were in an authentic japanese izayaka. I order a ramen with pork broth, thick noodles, pork shoulder & egg; However, the broth was somewhat bland, the noodles were thinner than expected, the pork & egg were cold, like out of the fridge cold which did not help with the overall taste, & at the portion felt not filling enough as I ended with way more broth than noodles. The ramen was pretty much on the same level as some decent instant noodles, nothing special but not really worth 20 dollars. The restaurant itself is not terrible but I expected more from it.View more
Food tasted great & service was perfect. Only downside is that I felt sick a few hours later, & so did my girlfriend. Read other reviews of customers also getting food poisoning from this restaurant. I had the Pork Tonkotsu Ramen on Jan 16th 2024View more
Had the pork tonkotsu ramen, very delicious. Broth was great. A must try.View more
I was here for solo lunch. I arrived around 12pm & sat at the bar. Not too busy at that time but did start to get busy while I was eating. Love this place - food ambience service - will be back next time I am in Montreal. I had the Korokke (potato croquette) starter which came in an order of 2. Crunchy on the outside & buttery soft on the inside garnished with thinly julienned carrots green scallion bits & topped with a tangy yummy sauce. The main I had was the Tonkotsu (pork broth) ramen with thin noodles & pork shoulder topped with scallion seaweed & with a half marinated ramen egg (ajitama). Condiments provided on the side included benishoga (thin strips of pickled ginger) & chili oil, also sesame seeds. I haven't seen these provided at other ramen restaurants before & will surely ask for them - makes such a difference brings out the flavours ! The broth was superb. Creamy not too salty. The noodles were just the right amount of chewy. The pork shoulder was fresh & perfectly seasoned. Everything was generously portioned. The restaurant interior felt like I was in Japan somewhere, not Montreal. Staff were super friendly. My favourite ramen resto too bad they are not in Toronto! Will be back also yo try sister restaurant (next door same building) Ichigo Ichie for Japanese tapas & cocktails).View more
The pork in the ramen is too lean. The ramen is ok. I expected better taste for the long wait.View more
