About

Wünderbar serves traditional German pub fare centered on hearty, classic dishes that emphasize bold flavors and satisfying textures. The kitchen focuses on authentic staples including savory sausages, crispy schnitzel, and soft pretzels paired with sharp mustard. A rotating selection of imported draft beers provides the backbone of the beverage program, complementing the heavy, salt-forward flavor profiles of the main courses. Wooden tables and a communal atmosphere define the physical setting, encouraging a straightforward and social eating experience. Every plate reflects a dedication to central European culinary traditions while maintaining a focus on simple, high-quality ingredients. This establishment prioritizes consistency through the preparation of robust recipes that have defined German tavern culture for decades, ensuring every guest receives an honest representation of heritage cooking techniques.

Review Summary

Wünderbar offers a spacious venue with a distinctive German beer hall aesthetic that is highly appreciated by many for its lively atmosphere, welcoming decor, and excellent selection of imported beers. While numerous patrons praise the attentive and knowledgeable staff, the quality of service remains inconsistent, with some guests reporting long wait times and inattentiveness during peak hours or sporting events. Opinions on the food are mixed, as some visitors find the pretzels and sausages to be delicious highlights, while others feel that the portions are small and the menu prices are high relative to the value provided. Although the venue is frequently recommended as a great spot for social gatherings and sports viewing, some diners suggest that the musical choices and atmosphere do not always align with the authentic German theme they expected.

Went yesterday for the Germany game. The service was really really good. The pretzel was so delicious.
The currywurst was cold unfortunately & not cut all the way through.

The atmosphere was really good, we would definitely come back.

Food is okay. Beer options could be more. But seriously, German bar but you only play lame 90ies teenage punk rock music from the US. Do better!!

Otherwise great atmosphere for games & place looks great & fun.

We stopped into this German bar this weekend & unfortunately had a subpar experience.

Menu wise, beer selection & food options are both limited but lots of seating room.

From a service perspective- upon arriving, there we're no signs by the door to indicate whether to help yourself to seating or wait to be seated. We were there for a few minutes & nobody arrived so we went to seat ourselves. Almost ten minutes went by & nobody came to serve us or acknowledge us despite being seated near the bar & multiple servers were standing at the bar. We ultimately had to go to the bar to order our drinks before someone eventually came to check on us.

We watched this happen to another group of people who came in not long after us.

There were plenty of staff working that evening but unfortunately very inattentive.

If you love German beer (& beer in general) & sports, this is the place to go! I've been there several times to watch sports games, & we've always had a great experience. I love the 1L beer jar, the place is very cool, & the staff is amazing! They even opened the bar earlier for my friends to watch a football (soccer) game. Highly recommended!

Matthieu served us at the bar & was absolutely great! Always with a smile, knowledgeable about the theme & menu items, & always up for some lively discussion as the night went on. We had some excellent German beers with a kraut dog that really hit the spot. The ambiance is great with long tables that are great for groups. The feeling in here really transports you to another world. We highly recommend it & we'll likely see you there next time. Prost!

SU-BLIME. Worth it.

Very tasty beer & good service, cool atmosphere with German decor. food was tasty however quite small portions for the price. 11$ pretzel plus 5.50$ for the Bavarian cheese dip, was expecting a generous sized pretzel & dip amount for 17$, instead of something that should be maybe half the price. Will be back as it was a fun spot, I hope the food will match the rest of the experience!

Wunderbar is the real deal. Great beer, perfect ambience, & an attention to detail you don't see often. & the pretzels? Hands down the best German pretzels on the island.

If you want an authentic German pub vibe in Montreal, this place is a must.

Nice attempt at making a modernized version of a German beer hall, but don't go on a night when there's a sporting event - with the widescreen TVs (strike 1) it turns into a rowdy sports bar like all the other bars in town. It ruins the experience.
