I wanted to eat the mixed vegetable udon soup that was labelled'vegan,' but when I asked the waitress what broth they used, she told me they use CHICKEN BROTH. I ended up ordering a purely vegetable dish that I believe was not vegetarian because they probably used oyster sauce or fish sauce, something like that. They will put the'vegetarian/vegan' label on things that are not vegetarian.View more
View more
J'y retourne c'est sûr a 100%.View more
I recently ordered takeout from Wok Café in Montreal through Uber Eats, & overall, it was a satisfying experience with a few highlights & a couple of minor areas for improvement. Video Review will be posted on Tik Tok & Instagram soon @Foxyappetite Here's a breakdown of what I tried: Salt & Pepper Shrimp (Fave) The Salt & Pepper Shrimp is definitely the star of the meal. The shrimp were cooked perfectly-crispy on the outside while staying tender on the inside. The seasoning was spot on: a blend of salty, savory, & a mild heat that was just the right amount of kick. The dish was generously sprinkled with herbs & chili, with crunchy vegetables adding extra flavor & freshness. Even though I got it through delivery, the shrimp stayed crispy, which can sometimes be a challenge with takeout. This dish alone would make me order again. Vegetable Fried Rice (Very Good) The Vegetable Fried Rice was another strong point. The rice was fluffy & well-seasoned, with a nice wok char that gave it a great depth of flavor. The vegetables (peas, carrots, & bell peppers) were fresh & retained their crunch, which was appreciated. It wasn't greasy, which I liked, & it felt light but filling at the same time. It paired perfectly with the shrimp. However, I did add soy sauce & seasoning from home to give it a touch more depth, but it was still very good. Tofu The tofu was decent, though it wasn't as exciting as the other dishes. The texture was soft & smooth, & it absorbed the sauce well, but it lacked a little bit of the crispiness that would have given it an extra dimension. The sauce was mild but flavorful, & it complemented the tofu nicely, but I would have loved a bit more of a punch. Still, it's a good option for those looking for a vegetarian choice, & the portion size was generous. Spring Rolls The spring rolls were crispy & arrived well-packed, without getting soggy, which is always a plus with takeout. The filling was mostly vegetables & had a nice crunch, but the flavors could have been a bit bolder. The dipping sauce was sweet & tangy, but I felt it needed a little more kick or complexity. Overall, they were a solid appetizer, but not the standout of the meal. Takeout Experience As with any takeout order, the quality of the food can sometimes be affected by delivery, but Wok Café did a great job of packaging everything carefully. The food was still warm when it arrived, & everything was well-sealed to prevent leaks or spills. Overall Wok Café is definitely a great option for Asian comfort food through Uber Eats. The Salt & Pepper Shrimp is the standout here & a must-try. The Vegetable Fried Rice was flavorful & well-balanced, making it a great side dish. The Tofu was good but could use a bit more texture or flavor. The Spring Rolls were solid but not as impressive as the other items. The meal was satisfying, & I would definitely order from Wok Café again, especially for their shrimp & fried rice. If you're craving bold flavors & comforting, hearty dishes, this is a reliable spot.View more
Lovely people, owners & staff. Very welcome atmosphere with open kitchen. Place is clean. I'm nice you order it does not take too long for dishes to be served at the table. Their shumai (dim sum) was tasty & light, some of the pork was a little too chewy. General Tao chicken. Found it to have too much breading & the sauce was not the typical general Tao sauce I'm accustomed to as it seems to have a strong citrus to it but I am really not sure. I actually can't describe what the flavouring was for that matter. Crispy fried sesame shrimp also has an odd sauce that we were not used to & as such was the weakest dish we ordered. Shrimp were properly cooked & not too much breading & nice & crisp on the outside. Chicken in black bean sauce was very tasty but lacking sufficient veggies & not much of them except tons of onions. Luckily the onions tasted fantastic. Chicken was what appears to be white meat & was juicy. Spring rolls were way too greasy & the oil smelled off. The spring roll itself was lacking any real flavour or for that matter sufficient amount of meaningful ingredients & as such we left them over. Their white rice was cooked perfectly The tofu general Tao was surprisingly good. The tofu was cooked to a gentle crisp & then covered in general Tao sauce - the same from the other dish. Oddly the sauce was not too bad on the tofu dish The real star of the were the peanut butter dumplings. This was perfect toy cooked, delicate outer dough, filling was proportionate to the size of the wrap, & the sauce was fantastic. Tip. If you have leftover sauce pour it over your white rice it's awesome. I could just go there for plates & plates of the dumplings.View more
