Afficher toutsandwich(90) soda(45) sandwiches(29) lunch(29) pickle(27) hot dog(26) cherry(24) wilensks(19) cola(19) mustard(19) quick(16) institution(16)As great spot for a quick & tasty bite. Classic place to stop by when touring Montreal, & even as a local! Don't ask them to adapt the sandwich as it's a winning recipe, they won't change it 😅
The sandwiches are the best & the staff are all so wonderful & friendly. 10/10 would go here again for snacks.
Saw a tiktok about this place & thought it would be a nice place to try. For the price you are getting an amazing sandwich, if you go get at least 2 to start. Old time sodas that are well worth the price, get an egg cream or a cherry coke & you will be very happy.
It had so old vibe. The sandwiches were so tasty. I licked the taste of cherry cola.
While I appreciate the historical significance behind this eatery & their variety of sodas & even to a certain extent their sandwiches, I felt unwelcome as a new customer the two times I went. This restaurant caters well mostly for regulars, who know exactly what they want to order, but visitors like us need a moment to understand the choices & I feel like I didn't get that chance.
You can't walk past this place twice without stopping in for a soda & then let the nice people behind the counter convince you that you need to order a sandwich & a pickle. Very simple place with stools & standing room. Super friendly staff. Delicious sandwich & very tasty beverages.
Stopped by here as part of a food tour. We each got a sandwich as part of the tour with either Swiss or cheddar cheese. The sandwiches were phenomenal, from the bread to the meat. Must stop for a quick bite to eat.
I learned about this place after watching No Reservations. Great sandwich. Very cool to see them make cola the old fashioned way. It's a quick 10 minute stop.
One of the classic Mile End institutions- a real gem on Fairmount street. The service is always friendly & accommodating, the restaurant is adorable- a total throwback in time. "Light lunch" is definetely the key words here though- classic cold cut sandwich- no substitutions!! But do expect to be hungry within an hour especially if you are touring this gorgeous neighborhood. Will always come back for a quick bite, thank you guys!
The vibe is very unique & so is the food. We got the egg sandwich, meat sandwich & a chocolate milkshake. They were quite tasty for the price point! The staff were very friendly.
If you're looking for a cheap meal, I guess this is an ok place to stop. For about $5 you can get a sandwich. If I were to describe the sandwich I would say it tastes like a hot dog.
I'll always stop by if in the area. Been sitting in the same seat, eating the same sandwich, drinking the same soda for almost 40 years. It's always the same.
One of the oldest Polish lunch counters in the Mile End neighborhood. Featured on Parts Unknown by Anthony Bourdain, this no frills lunch spot serves only a handful of items, all under $5. The famous Wilensky special is a sliced salami, bologna, choice of cheddar/swiss cheese & mustard, served hot on a grilled roll that's reminiscent of an English muffin. It's warm, salty, flat, & easily manageable with two hands. It took less than 5 seconds for my takeout sandwich to be slung over in a brown sac, & even fewer to know this meal was a diamond in the rough.
Took me longer to pay than to have my food ready. Amazing sandwiches. & cheap! 5 stars!
When i'm in the neighborhood, i never pass the chance of getting their famous sandwich & their half sour pickles. Lovely run family business they all work behind the counter. I LOVE THIS PLACE!
There's a fine balance between whether you go there for the special or for the atmosphere. Pro tip: Be sure to ask for your sandwich to be cut, & served without mustard. &, if you order the half sour pickles, & they have no stock, the proper response is "Barry can be so unreliable".
