UMAMI RAMEN & IZAKAYA est donc le tout premier restaurant de ramens entièrement véganes à Montréal.
Grâce à l’importation d’une machine japonaise destinée à la fabrication des nouilles, l’établissement fabrique ses propres nouilles maisons à base de blé bio, en plus de fabriquer ses bouillons, ses tsukemono, son kombucha et ses germinations! Le restaurant propose plusieurs variétés de ramens et de petits classiques de la bistronomie japonaise en version végane. Que l’on pense à l’okonomiyaki, les gyozas, le tofu agedashi ou encore le tempeh tonkatsu, Cédric et sa brigade se font un plaisir de vous présenter tous les jours, de l’entrée au dessert, ces classiques japonais revisités… ainsi que quelques exclusivités sorties tout droit nos cuisines. Et qui dit izayaka dit bien entendu bières rafraîchissantes, vins somptueux, cocktails enivrants, sakés délicats et autres produits vinicoles fins. Chez Umami Ramen, on vit la gastronomie sans cruauté à son meilleur!

We could tell that the quality was great, but the 4 of us agreed that the meals were way too salty, especially the tofu in the miso ramens we took. We did appreciate our first courses though. The decor is very nice, however the place is kinda loud (but I have the feeling that's all Montréal places are loud..).Voir plus

Excellente entrée de légumes en tempura, friture délicate & croustillante. Les ramens sont également renversants: tantanmen (mon pref) & curry ramen très réussis, savoureux, les toppings généreux & inventifs, les bouillons sont décadents & les nouilles délicieuses. Petit bémol: il n'y avait pas de choix dans la sélection de sakés au verre & leur frigo à keg était brisé pour la bière en fut. On a eu un peu soif, mais la bouffe était très bonne. You know a vegan restaurant is good when it can impress a carnivore. I visited Umami with a vegetarian friend. We opted for the tasting menu, & it was WOW from start to finish. The presentation, the creativity, the flavours, all of it! Every course was distinct & delicious. There was not a single item that we wouldn't want to eat again. Was very disappointed with the Ramen I had. I ordered the Spicy Miso Ramen & it was so overly salty it was borderline inedible. The only flavours I could taste was salt overload & a bit of heat from the chili peppers. Was totally flavourless otherwise. We had wanted to order the tasting menu, but not a single spicy dish was included with that, & everything on it looked too mild for our taste. Unless they change their tasting menu in future to include more interesting flavours, we won't go back, as the Ramen is not worth it, & will push your blood pressure through the roof with its way-too-much salt content. Hope the restaurant takes feedback & drastically reduces the amount of salt it adds to its meals. Many customers have commented on this problem.Voir plus
The atmosphere was very cute! We sat on the covered terrasse (patio). The food was nicely presented & looked good. However the restaurant lost points for the wait time. Also the flavours were really strong & salty & not something I would go back for again. The ramen noodles also lacked the signature chewiness texture. The service wasn't great but the server noticed she had made an error, apologized for the wait & brought us free dessert. While there were many elements that were good about the restaurant - overall the wait time (over 45 min) made it hard for us to imagine returning.Voir plus
