Located in the popular neighborhood of Village/Centre-Sud in Montreal, it is becoming increasingly difficult to choose among the many Japanese restaurants that are sprouting like mushrooms. Fortunately for everyone, restaurant Uchi on Amherst Street is here to reassure us that there's nothing to worry about, this is a true Japanese restaurant.
Uchi proposes a unique and varied menu consisting of appetizers, seafood and tasty rolls. Their mouth-watering small hors d'oeuvres will beautifully compliment the delicious main meals of this unrivaled cuisine. We can also find on the menu some specialties such as sushi, tuna Tataki, spicy scallop roll and beef sashimi. Furthermore, we added Szechuan cuisine to our menu. This cuisine is prepared with spices that will warm up any adventurer.
Although the decor is of a sleek and modern Japanese style, you will quickly figure out that you will not be coming back here for it's decor alone, but also for the very high quality food that is served to you!
Overall, reviews for Uchi praise very fresh, high quality sushi and a broad menu that includes both Japanese and Chinese items, with standout rolls such as lychee and favorites like garlic mushrooms; prices are described as fair for the quality. The BYOB option is repeatedly welcomed, and many diners note generous portions and strong value, with the Sushi Boat cited as a popular choice for groups. Service is consistently described as attentive, friendly, and non judgmental, contributing to a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Some remarks mention a lively or loud dining room and suggest improvements to acoustics and lighting, while others appreciate the refined yet cozy vibe and modern minimalistic decor. Takeout and delivery experiences are described as reliable, with quality remaining high after renovations and across the menu. A small portion of comments point out that some dishes may skew more towards Chinese preparation or that prices can feel higher compared to similar options, but the consensus remains that Uchi delivers fresh, well prepared dishes and strong overall value.
I love the ambiance, the service, the staff, the owners. I've been going there for more than 10 years, even had my 50th bday party there. Sushis are great. I often order & & it gets here quick & perfect. Give them a try.
Beau & bon resto japonais & autres choix asiatiques de type vietnamien & même chinois, plusieurs sushis , soupe aigre piquante au tofu, ravioli, général tao, saumon tout était bien

Yummy & fresh sushi restaurant located near the gay village. My first time visiting this place & I was disappointed. The cooked food is very tasy as well. Staff is very friendly & helpful with all your neeeds. Absolutely love that it is a BYOB (bring your own wine). I will definitely be back soon! Highly recommended!

Great spot for sushi near the Gay Village! The staff were welcoming & the sushi is very fresh. Their cooked dishes were great as well. The restaurant is BYOB (bring your own bottle).
I have been going to, or ordering from Uchi for almost 15 years. They are consistently amazing. The best quality especially for the price, which is surprisingly reasonable. The in-house experience is fantastic. Portions are perfect, yet I always over order because I can never decide. The Sushi Boat is a work of art & perfect to order when you go with a large group. I have been for work functions, birthdays or to take friends when they come to town. Reliable, fresh, delicious.
Let's get the only good part out of the way : the food is delicious.
We arrived at 6:15PM, were sat in the middle of a very noisy restaurant. Felt like a loud cafeteria.
Behind us were several other empty tables, including a banquet. Two minutes after sitting down, a family of four were sat next to us with screaming, unbehaved children. Knowing this would be an issue, we asked to be seated a bit further down. Before I could even finish my sentence, the waitress cuts me off & says it's reserved & they do not allow table switches.
Throughout the evening, the banquet that was « reserved » was seated 90 minutes later. It took them an hour to pour a soup & toss a small salad. We then got served our sushi a full 100 minutes after arriving. Everyone was wondering where their food was.
The service was dreadful. The children next to us were sitting, bottom down on the table, yelling… it was a shock to have such uncivilized children next to us with waiters enabling it. Note to families,… if you have young children at home, just stay home on Valentine's day. Don't ruin it for literally everyone else.
While the food was good, it's not worth waiting two hours for once seated, & certainly not a great experience when you're waiting an hour for a salad entrée with misbehaved children & incompetent parents close by with an unsupportive waiting staff.
