Located in the popular neighborhood of Village/Centre-Sud in Montreal, it is becoming increasingly difficult to choose among the many Japanese restaurants that are sprouting like mushrooms. Fortunately for everyone, restaurant Uchi on Amherst Street is here to reassure us that there's nothing to worry about, this is a true Japanese restaurant.
Uchi proposes a unique and varied menu consisting of appetizers, seafood and tasty rolls. Their mouth-watering small hors d'oeuvres will beautifully compliment the delicious main meals of this unrivaled cuisine. We can also find on the menu some specialties such as sushi, tuna Tataki, spicy scallop roll and beef sashimi. Furthermore, we added Szechuan cuisine to our menu. This cuisine is prepared with spices that will warm up any adventurer.
Although the decor is of a sleek and modern Japanese style, you will quickly figure out that you will not be coming back here for it's decor alone, but also for the very high quality food that is served to you!
Overall, reviews for Uchi praise very fresh, high quality sushi and a broad menu that includes both Japanese and Chinese items, with standout rolls such as lychee and favorites like garlic mushrooms; prices are described as fair for the quality. The BYOB option is repeatedly welcomed, and many diners note generous portions and strong value, with the Sushi Boat cited as a popular choice for groups. Service is consistently described as attentive, friendly, and non judgmental, contributing to a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Some remarks mention a lively or loud dining room and suggest improvements to acoustics and lighting, while others appreciate the refined yet cozy vibe and modern minimalistic decor. Takeout and delivery experiences are described as reliable, with quality remaining high after renovations and across the menu. A small portion of comments point out that some dishes may skew more towards Chinese preparation or that prices can feel higher compared to similar options, but the consensus remains that Uchi delivers fresh, well prepared dishes and strong overall value.
Service au téléphone tres professionnel. On a pris à emporter.
Hello, The sushi was incredible, everything was delicious. I like the concept of bringing your own alcohol... But it should be indicated elsewhere than just in front of the restaurant. At the back of the room, it's noisy, but if you eat towards the window, it's fine. But otherwise, cheer up.

Their food is nice, delicious & fresh. Haven't tried sushi yet because I already have my favorite place to get, but I always buy chinese food from Uchi & it's pretty solid. Soon I will get sushi & update my review

The sushi place we wanted to try is gone so we found this one instead. So glad we did! We brought our own bottle of Sake ( wish Ontario restaurants allowed this). We ordered the Bateau 4, which is a selection of different items & came with soup (3 to choose from) & a salad (2 or more to choose from). The green salad we picked was amazing. Fresh & really delicious dressing. Our selection of sushi was exceptionally good, & they are very generous with the ginger & Wasabi. Our server was very attentive, noticing my fondness for ginger, he brought extra beyond what I needed. Quick to clear plates & bring whatever we asked for. I highly recommend this place & I'd definitely go back!
Super welcoming staff & ambiance. Food quality is A+. We asked for recommendations on the sushi & stepped out of our comfort zone. Definitely worth it! Ps: try the fried ice cream!
