On a summer vacation visiting my mom & sister from also my nephew & his LARGE family also in town from Toronto, we came to Tong Por for a family dinner.
As it was on the eve of Ste Jean Baptiste Day holiday in Quebec, the restaurant was not as crowded on a Monday night - as people are traveling or camping.
We were given a large table with rotation capability for easy food access by everyone, We ordered:
* Cantonese Stewed Brisket w/ Daikon
* Sweet & Sour Pork Chops
* Deep Fried Salt & Pepper Tofu Cubes
' Salt & Pepper Fired Chicken
* Beef & Gailan in Oyster Sauce
* Black Bean Steamed Fish
* Crispy Cantonese Chow Mein
The food took a little bit time to come out of the kitchen, but once the first one arrived, the rest came rather quickly in succession. This is a Cantonese restaurant, which is one of our preferred Chinese cuisines, so they were very genuine & delicious. The service was quite good, as we (the visitors from. Toronto & California) happened to hit a heat spell in Montreal; temperature outside was in the high 35°C+, so they gave us a water pitcher with plenty of ice in it so no need to bother them constantly with a large party of 10 people.
In summary, Ville St Laurent used to have quite a few options when it comes to Chinese cuisines - avoiding the need to drive to Montreal Chinatown & parking headaches, however, due to the current economy & past COVID consequences, Tong Por is miraculously still serving St Laurent & its vicinity. So, if like us, you're craving for some yummy Cantonese cuisines & not wanting to bother fighting the traffic, give Tong Por a try.View more
This is the real folks. Show up before 11:30 to get a table (& a parking spot!). Food is good & hot at the table. Cart service so you need to keep an eye out for your favs to fly by! We had a table for 5 & were not crowded or rushed. Service was impeccable & friendly. Will for sure be back. If I can find a parking spot :)View more
Excellent food & dim sum experience but hard to find parkingView more
Saturday evenings can be particularly crowded, with a bustling dining area filled with eager customers. Parking can be challenging, as the small lot is shared with the nearby C&T Supermarket & other stores, often leaving visitors searching for a spot. Despite this, the quality of food & lively ambiance make it worth the visit.View more
Good service but damaged parking with many heavy pothole. I almost damaged my wheel & car suspension!!View more
Tong Por has been our go-to for Dimsum since we discovered that one needn't drive to where the majority of such restaurants are, pay more, have fun [not] finding parking, paid or not for the difference between the two. Here one can eat to one's heart's content &, other than on weekends, easily use the parking lot. There are side streets & other places to park which are no more than a 5-minute walk from there. The menu is broad & you can also go there & order, like in any other restaurant.View more
Parking is a pain. But food is always delicious! 😋View more
My favorite dim sum restaurant, food always tastes consistent & delicious, plenty of choices. Staff are pleasant to deal with, especially the dim sum ladies! This is not a fancy restaurant, but clean spacious. Lack of parkingView more
We had not been here for some years before we decided to have some chinese food that was somewhere other than Chinatown. I will go back to Chinatown when someone decides to make tasty food instead of cheap food.
But Tongpour had left a good impression on some of us & we were not disappointed when we did return.
The place is not much to look at a large room holding over 300 or maybe even 400 (dim sum sized) & the parking outside is a nightmare to navigate, don't ask.
We always have the same thing because of a very determined member of our group so its Cantonese chow mein, rice & eggplant which is quite good.
The dishes are huge & you can easily feed twice as many persons as you would think. But our determined friend eats nothing that swims or crawls in water & it is too bad because the salt & pepper shrimp are just too good to be true & at about 12$ for 10-12 shrimps they are a steal.
The soups are good & one day we will try something else I am sure .
Need Chinese save yourself the grief of downtown eat here & walk there ..cars are a hazzard near this area
This is my "go to" Dim Sum place.
Sure the parking is a pain & the line up is at times long on the weekends. But that's part of the charm. Sure beats driving around in circles looking for & paying for parking in Chinatown.
The Dim Sum has a fairly good selection & the quality is above average.
There's a huge Chinese market at the other end of the mall that I like to visit after Dim Sum.
Very good service from the receptionist lady, Lina. Very professional, courtoeus, professional, & knowledgeable about the menu. My takeout order was well placed & got there at the right time. A big tip $$ for Lina.
Food is ok but could be a little bit hotter, may be was sitting in the kitchen for a while before being served.
Parking is a bit of a pain, especially when it's party night..
