I agree with all the negative reviews. This is a very old runned down, dirty, cruddy diner, where the 2 chefs hate each other but have never met. (If you love proper dining etiquette stay away.)
Antoine or T is the weekday chef & Peter is on weekends. They can only complain about'the other guy' for 5 minutes tops then get angry at you for talking about that d...
But all that hate makes them cook their best because they know you are now going to compare their skills.
Fantastically greasy spoon diner with 9 seats at the counter & conversations that everyone will hear & add to.
It's like walking & sitting at your uncle's house & getting to eat the nastiest, dirtiest, most delicious breakfast that will either give you a heart attack or a new lease on life.
There are tons of regulars & weirdos that come here, couples, families, lovers, haters, but everone might come out thinking'why would we ever go pay more elsewhere?'
Only one person was ever murdered here, so don't worry.
The food is worth it.
Still an absolute Mtl classic!
I hadn't been in years, & even though the people have changed, the food, atmosphere & banter are all still there!
Uniquely NDG & Montreal - it is STILL an institution in the city.
This is a Montreal gem, open for as long as I can remember. The place is like a time capsule; I age every time I go, but the restaurant looks the same, & the food is amazing. The service is fast & kind, making you feel like part of the family even if it is your first time. It is a family-owned business that has completely mastered its craft. A must-try if you want a great breakfast experience.
I first tried to visit Cosmo's back in 2023-ish, after hearing endless hype from friends & social media. My wife & I were staying with a friend in NDG, & she brought her tiny chihuahua along - tucked warmly inside her sweater. Seating was limited, as is typical of Cosmo's charm, so we chose the outdoor patio.Unfortunately, the staff member working that day wasn't a fan of dogs & asked us to leave the patio. We were disappointed, not just because we couldn't try the food, but because we missed out on the full Cosmo's experience everyone talks about. Our friend later wrote a review about what happened - & to our surprise, the owner reached out personally. He explained he's actually a dog lover & would never turn away a customer over a small dog, especially one being carried. He insisted that if we ever returned to Montreal, breakfast would be on him.
Fast forward to 2026, & we finally made our way back to MTL. We stopped in with my in?laws & the same friend (& yes, the same chihuahua). The owner had told us the staff would know we were coming - & they did. All five of us were welcomed inside, dog included. The atmosphere was tight, loud, & absolutely electric. The two staff members working were incredible - warm, funny, & fast. The service had that perfect blend of chaos & charm that makes Cosmo's legendary.& the food…
I ordered the Mish Mash, & let me tell you: the legends are true.
It's one of the most satisfying breakfasts I've ever had - anywhere. The portions, the flavor, the love that goes into every plate, the history packed into that tiny space… it all hits you at once.Cosmo's is the definition of a community staple. A place that doesn't need to change, polish, or modernize. It needs to stay exactly what it is - a Montreal treasure that feels like home the moment you sit down.I'll never miss an opportunity to visit again.
Cosmo's is forever part of my heart.
Get to this staple of NDG! Grab breakfast here at the little counter! Very small place to try to visit on the off peak hours like 11am or 2pm! Can get crazy busy on weekends so try in the week for a better experience! Staff is so so nice! They are funny, helpful & sweet!

The breakfasts are huge but try also the cheese burger! That thing is massive & delicious!!!
Rating 5 because I watched a video of some weirdo harassing this hard working man.
The food was fantastic, the service was great with a side attitude which is perfect, we sat outside which meant there was plenty of seating, inside is counter style & first come first serve. The atmosphere is great also, old school diner with the cooking right where you eat, in other words, perfectly amazing.
recommend 100%
Tiny little diner with great service & amazing breakfast. Takes you back to a time to when life was simple.. I love that! Their hashbrowns are the best I've ever had, portions are big & coffee is good. Its definitely a must try in Montreal. Only seats about 12 people inside but there is a patio with more seating & a to-go option. Will definitely be a go to spot if I visit Montreal again.
