About

The Coldroom operates as a speakeasy-style establishment focusing on high-quality craft cocktails and a specialized selection of shareable plates. The venue utilizes a dimly lit and industrial aesthetic to foster an environment centered on focused conversation and beverage appreciation. Patrons select from a rotation of seasonally curated mixology offerings that balance complex flavor profiles with technical precision. The culinary focus centers on tapas, emphasizing small-format dishes designed for casual consumption in a shared setting. Exposed brick walls and muted lighting define the interior architecture, creating a distinct separation from the surrounding urban exterior. Every aspect of the operation emphasizes a commitment to classic bartending techniques and a refined approach to social consumption. This venue functions as a primary destination for those seeking a curated social experience defined by precise drink preparation and communal culinary offerings.

Review Summary

The Coldroom is widely celebrated as an authentic speakeasy in Old Montreal, hidden behind an unmarked, mysterious door that rewards visitors with a unique and memorable experience. Guests consistently praise the impressive craftsmanship of the creative cocktail menu, noting that the bartenders are exceptionally knowledgeable, professional, and often willing to craft bespoke drinks based on personal preferences. While the entrance can be challenging to locate and wait times can increase during busy weekend evenings, the atmospheric, dim, and cozy cellar setting provides a perfect backdrop for a night out. Although the food menu is limited, the high quality of the beverages and the warm, welcoming service from the dedicated staff make this a must-visit destination for those looking for a sophisticated and intimate bar experience.

I've visited this place twice already. The first time was with my boyfriend-we sat at the bar & had an amazing time. The second time, I went with my family, & they loved the cocktails. The service wasn't as good during our second visit, as I had to get up & ask for water for the table, but I understand-it was very busy.
This is truly a speakeasy. The entrance looks like a regular exit door: no name, just a ring, which I found fun, since the whole point of a speakeasy is that it's hard to find. Once they open the door, you go down the stairs & enter the bar through another door that almost looks like a cold-room door.
The place is simple, with brick walls, but they serve some of the most amazing cocktails I've tried in Montreal. The menu is adorable, with duck illustrations & well-detailed descriptions. My favorite drinks were Death Mark, Rice to Meet You, Internal Affairs, & Joe Peachi.
I'll definitely come back on my next trip to Montreal.

Speakeasy dans le Vieux Montréal. Ambiance très cozy... génial pour une date mais aussi très agréable avec des amis. Belle variété de cocktails originaux. Trouver cet endroit vaux le détour...

Came as a recommendation from the chefs at Le Mousso & we weren't let down. Fantastic atmosphere, great drinks, & Jackson behind the bar was super friendly & personable. Do everything you can to keep him there; first-rate bartender.

Great cocktails & unique setting.
Note: very low light & staircase to enter & leave. Not great if you have mobility issues.

Fun experience. Just ring the doorbell outside & someone will come guide you downstairs. They don't have much in the way of food so we didn't bother eating but the drinks were great, they are a little pricy but it's a great experience so it was worth it. It's not a very big place so it would likely be hard to get into on a busy night but we had no trouble getting in & seated right away.
