Terrasse William Gray emerges in reviews as a standout Old Port spot with breathtaking views of the city and river, especially from the terrace and the winter bubbles that feel like dining inside a snow globe. The service is consistently praised for being attentive, professional, and friendly, with reservations handled smoothly, drinks served quickly, and staff often making celebrations feel special with thoughtful touches. The food receives high marks for flavor and presentation across a range of dishes, from tartare and duck to seafood and beef, with several standout items and inventive cocktails and wines. The atmosphere spans intimate, cosy dome settings to vibrant rooftop vibes, and the views are repeatedly described as spectacular. The winter domes, heaters and blankets add comfort for cold seasons, while guests note the terrace is ideal for brunch, dates and gatherings. While some dishes can be a touch salty or portions feel small for the price, the overall experience combines great food, excellent service and a remarkable panorama that invites a return visit.
After several tries, we finally secured a reservation at William Gray Restaurant. While expectations were high, the experience was mixed.
The food was average overall , the burger & fries were typical of many mid-range spots, & although the duck salad was creative, it felt overpriced for its simplicity. The steak was well-cooked & flavorful but didn't quite meet the premium standard suggested by the restaurant's reputation & prices.
Overall, the food quality didn't fully justify the cost.
That said, the ambiance & view were outstanding, overlooking Montreal's Old Port, the setting alone makes the visit memorable. If you're going for the atmosphere, it's worth it; if you're going for exceptional cuisine, you may leave a bit disappointed.

Service was good, waiter was pleasant & friendly. Food was pretty yummy, but I did find it a touch salty. I was disappointed that the ceviche didn't come with some sort of chip or cracker. The ambiance was nice at night with our table overlooking the city lights & the big ferris wheel. I enjoyed my steak, but my family thought that the fish & lobster ravioli were just ok. My biggest issue was finding parking...it took 5 tries to find somewhere to park. The area is very lively at night & the streets were very romantic.
Je suis allée au brunch de la Terrasse William Gray avec mon amie pour célébrer mon anniversaire & tout était merveilleux. Le service était parfait. Le busboy (commis débarrasseur) Jonathan était très attentionné & poli & le serveur David était très gentil & drôle. En plus de la vue éblouissante sur le vieux port, la nourriture était incroyable. Nous avons pris les Chicken & wafles & les oeufs bénédictines au homard. Je recommande fortement. Vous allez passer un moment inoubliable !

Très belle terrasse située dans le Vieux-Port de Montréal, sur le toit du 8e étage de l'hôtel William Gray. Je vous partage une photo de la vue saisissante de notre place assise tout juste au bord de clôture vitrée. Nous avons d'ailleurs pu réserver la table que nous souhaitions moyennant un frais de 35 $ vis le site internet.
Pour la nourriture, tout était excellent de la trempette de homard en passant par les crevettes & les assiettes de boeuf. La bouteille de vin n'était pas donnée, mais pas mal pareil partout.
Je recommande fortement & réservez d'avance, c'était complet même pour le service de 20h un vendredi soir :)
Went up fairly quickly, but the table was left baking in the sun. It took several minutes before the server even acknowledged us. When we asked to move to a shaded table (which was clearly available), it also took quite a while. We eventually just got up & left. Not sure I'd recommend this place.
Very nice restaurant in old Port of Montreal. Beautiful terrace, atmosphere excellent as in main street street of old Port area. Service excellent. Highly recommended.
Went there on a Friday night. We had made reservations prior to the event. Food was amazing (the beef sirloin could be cut with a fork), service was quick & the view is good (concrete jungle with an okay view of the Old Port area, but the atmosphere was intimate).

We enjoyed an excellent lunch in June 2025. The lobster roll was excellent including the roll itself, & burger was very good. We were excited to return in September. We both ordered the lobster roll. OMG, what a disappointment! The roll itself was hard & tasteless like it was days old & warmed in the oven. The contents, well, the lobster looked it was out through a grinder with one piece of claw meat that was either overcooked & dry or day old. No flavor & I didn't eat the bread roll.
On top of this the server messed up our drink order (which we tolerated...it happens), but the emergency/fire alarm was activated. The alarm ran for several minutes without staff informing us what was happening (the restaurant was full). Did we need to leave??? The dessert was a weird concoction that was either days old or in the refrigerator; it did not resemble the menu description. & then, there was the yellow jacket bees swarming our table, food drinks, & face (we could understand this happening.)
Collectively, all these things added up to a very poor experience. Yes, we were disappointed.
Terrasse William Gray is easily one of the best dining spots in Old Port. The views are spectacular, the food is exceptional, & the service is truly outstanding. We'd been wanting to visit for quite some time, & I couldn't have picked a better day to finally go.
Since weekends are reserved for brunch, we enjoyed a delicious meal of chicken & waffles & a lobster benedict-both prepared perfectly. The drink selection was great as well, but what really stood out was the service.
We were looked after by David, who went above & beyond to make sure our experience was memorable. It's a special place where you feel genuinely welcomed, & I'm already looking forward to my next visit.
