Tacos Frida specializes in authentic Mexican street food, emphasizing traditional preparation methods and vibrant, high-quality ingredients. The menu centers on a variety of tacos featuring slow-cooked meats, fresh salsas, and house-made tortillas that provide a distinct, hand-crafted texture. Guests find a focused selection of Latin American staples that highlight bold chiles, aromatic cilantro, and zesty lime profiles. The setting functions as a functional, casual space designed for efficient service and an informal atmosphere. Beyond the core taco offerings, the kitchen prepares various regional specialties that round out a cohesive menu of classic Mexican flavors. This establishment prioritizes consistent culinary execution, relying on time-honored recipes to maintain a standard of quality that appeals to those seeking an unpretentious, flavor-forward experience rooted in traditional culinary practices.
Tacos Frida is widely celebrated as one of the best spots for authentic Mexican cuisine in Montreal, consistently praised for its flavorful dishes like birria tacos, pozole, and guacamole. Many patrons appreciate the cozy, vibrant atmosphere and the exceptionally friendly and attentive service that characterizes the dining experience. While the majority of guests consider the food fresh, high-quality, and reliable, some reviewers noted that the restaurant can become quite loud and crowded, often necessitating a wait for a table. Opinions on value are somewhat divided, as several customers find the menu delicious and reasonably priced, while others feel that certain portion sizes are small in relation to the cost. Despite occasional concerns regarding consistency or cross-contamination for those with dietary restrictions, the restaurant remains a favorite for many locals who highly recommend it for its traditional flavors and welcoming environment.
It's been over a decade that I've had authentic tacos. My son & I took the REM all the way from the south shore to Montreal today then transferred to the subway to try this place. My son is ten & has never had authentic Mexican cuisine.
We shared three types of tacos: The Beef biria, the carnitas, & the pastor, also we shared a serving of freshly made tortilla chips with guacamole. We each had a bottle of pop: mango soda, & pineapple soda. They put two big squeeze bottles of sauces on the table for us to try, one orange & spicy, the other a mild pale green sauce tasting of cilantro & lime. I put a ton of the green sauce on the pastor, very good.
Everything was amazing. The birria tacos & the guacamole were our favourites.
We went around 3:30 pm on a Wednesday in July. It was very relaxed & quiet. The atmosphere is clean, comfortable & VERY beautifully & brightly decorated. The staff were friendly & very helpful when we were deciding on what to order. Hours later, we are still talking about it. Can't wait to go back! Thank you Tacos Frida team/family!
Great food, really solid & authentic Mexican dishes. I would come back for the food & friendly waiters.
However, I repeatedly witnessed what appeared to be the owner loudly reprimanding staff in front of customers. It made the atmosphere very uncomfortable & affected the dining experience.
After seeing this more than once, I've decided not to return & am also considering reporting the situation to the relevant authorities, as this behavior in the workplace is totally unacceptable & should not be tolerated.

Had been before & enjoyed with my family. This time was a disaster unfortunately. Was there with my wife & youngest child. We waited for about 40 minutes for a table which was fine. When we finally sat down & ordered they had no more birria tacos which was fine although it was only around 7 :15. This can happen. What we were not expecting was to be served our main course without receiving our appetizers. When I asked if we could please get our appetizers first they brought the food back towards the kitchen & turned right around saying there was no room to put our mains on the side while we waited for our apps & ate them. They said they just brought everything out despite our clear communication that we did not want our main course yet, & went back into the kitchen & brought back both the appetizers & main course all at once. The experience got outrageous when Leonardo the manager came to the table to tell us that it is not his fault nor the servers fault because the kitchen is busy. When I mentioned I have not written a review before but would, he told me that this did not matter to him. They are too busy anyways with all the takeout, dine in & Uber Eats. He said they have so many reviews that mine does not matter. Made me feel even smaller as a customer, & more that it was my privilege to be there, rather than being treated like a customer, or even like a person. Extremely unfortunate that Leonardo feels this way. My 10 year old was not all that impressed with his attitude & disrespect. The food is decent enough but honestly there are so many other Mexican restaurants now in the city that I definitely won't have to feel the need to go back here for a visit.
Surprisingly an overall deeply disappointing experience. To start off, our side of chips & guacamole (accompanying salsa was curiously not an option?) came with only 7 chips for the both of us! Not to mention that this was a paid side, unlike the norm in most taco joints. I ordered the Oaxacan beef tacos, which are supposedly the chef's specialty, & was met with dry meat & an underwhelming amount of seasoning. The two table sauces offered little help, as earthy bitterness took over the acidic brightness you would usually come to expect. My partner, who is from the Southern United States, & thus accustomed to quality Latin American/Mexican cooking, ordered the chicken quesadilla & was also very disappointed by how dry & flavourless it was, even going so far as to believe precooked sandwich meat may have been used.
If you want quality authentic tacos in Montreal (which granted, is a rarity in itself!), the best we have had here was surprisingly Impac Taco located in marché aux puces Métropolitain. The La Toxica located in Chinatown is also decent.
This little Mexican restaurant serves great authentic food & some items on the menu can only be found there.
Good Mexican vibe too. The nachos & salads were super fresh & flavorful.
Always A1 service & Authentica Mexican cuisine
My kids love coming here wearing their Lucia masks
Their cocktails are good
Their Birria tacos are to die for
Their tortilla soup is delicious
Their guacamole is fresh & tasty
We love their $17.95 special as well that includes a drink, three tacos & a soup or chips & guac
Best Mexican restaurant in Montreal. The consistency, portions, freshness, authenticity & quality of their products are second to none. Very fair prices too, you cannot go wrong!
It was Cinco de Mayo yesterday & I said whatever it takes I am going on a hunt for some Mexican food. I found the Treasure!!! Hit Gold with Tacos Frida. The chicken tacos are made with a chipotle sauce with just the right kick mixed in with all the ingredients topped with green salsa made them authentic, flavorful & delicious.
I have food allergies (to hot peppers) & even at a Mexican restaurant they could accomodate me. Usually everything is already pre made but they gave me few options. I didnt had to stick with just bread, like at other previous Mexicans restaurants. Thank you. I really appreciate. Some people actually HAVE food allergies, not just a'trend'.
The service was great.
The atmosphere reminds me of Brazil: very colorful & happy. The music was not blasting loud, gracias, so we could actually have a conversation & enjoy our time there.
