Tacos Frida is widely celebrated as a standout destination in Montréal for those seeking authentic, flavorful Mexican cuisine in a vibrant and cozy atmosphere. Many visitors highlight the birria, al pastor, and shrimp tacos as exceptional, often complemented by fresh guacamole and delicious margaritas. The staff consistently earns praise for being friendly, attentive, and welcoming, contributing to a warm, cultural experience. While some diners have noted that the restaurant can become quite busy and loud during peak hours, and opinions on portion sizes vary, the majority of guests describe their meals as high-quality and reasonably priced. With its bright, cheerful decor and reliable, consistent service, this spot is frequently recommended as a must-visit for anyone craving a genuine and satisfying Mexican dining experience.
Nice small restaurant, very welcoming. The tacos were a bit sad looking. Also had the nachos al pastor, very flavourful. With the tacos came 1 singular slice of lime (less than half) for 3 tacos. The lime was very dry so we asked our server for more & she gladly brought us 2 slices of the same size. By my surprise, we were charged $1 for the "extra" lime. We didn't say anything because we had already payed when we realized, but it just feels a little cheap to be charged for it giving that the one that came with the meal was dry. Overall, the food was pretty good, but there are better taco places out there, that are also more authentic.
Since traveling to Mexico in Feb 2024, we have been trying to find an authentic style Mexican restaurant in Montreal. We did find this one that fits the bill. The food was fresh & delicious. We started with chips & guacamole. The chips were crunchy & freshly fried, & I would have liked more. The guacamole tasted just like mine, homemade. I did, however, find it quite expensive at $4.50 for 8 chips & 3 tbsps of guac. We then had, for our main meal, I had a beef burrito, & my partner had the carnitas platter. The Beef Asada Burrito was huge. The flour tortilla was filled with lots of grilled beef, lettuce, refried beans, cheese, & a bit of rice. Both red & green salsa were provided to up the spice factor & taste. As for the carnitas plate, it was served with rice, guacamole, black beans & 4 tortillas & carnitas (pulled pork with pico de gallo). It too lacked some spice & heat but was filling for those with big appetites. Reservations are not accepted, so be prepared to wait. We were there Friday at 6:15 & the place was full. We did have a short wait, which wasn't too bad. Except for the fact that it was way too hot inside. It seemed like the AC was out. Even the staff complained. Yes, this is an option for Mexican food. Next time we go, we'll make sure itbis cooler outside.
The tacos here are truly authentic, with rich, vibrant flavors. The guacamole is next level & a must-try. The staff is also friendly & welcoming, making the dining experience enjoyable.
Tacos Frida is my go-to spot in the city for amazing tacos. A stroll down the canal to the restaurant makes for a perfect day, & the experience is always worth it. I never miss out on their Birria tacos & the great drinks they offer. Highly recommended for anyone craving delicious, authentic tacos.
Great food, service can be slow as it's smallish & often crowded, however, the servers are warm & friendly! A single vegetarian option can be found in each category (tacos, burritos, quesadillas) as dishes are traditional fare. The corn chips & guacamole are some of the best I've ever had! Tables are, for the most part, in close proximity, so not the place to go if you're looking for an intimate conversation, but THE place to go for really good, authentic Mexican cuisine & a fun time!
