I am updating my review because my recent visit was a completely different story. My first experience was for takeout during the pandemic & it was fairly underwhelming, but dining in this time was fantastic. The food was excellent & the atmosphere is so vibrant, fun, & authentically Mexican. It is a total 180 from my previous visit. I am really glad I gave this place another chance because everything from the flavors to the energy of the space was spot on. My family & I had a great time & we will definitely be back. If you had a mixed experience before, it is absolutely worth a second look.

This place is truly a hidden gem for Mexican food in the West Island. The moment you walk in, it feels like you've been transported to Mexico rather than Canada. The ambiance is lively & full of energy, with vibrant colors & great vibes throughout the restaurant.
You can immediately tell how popular it is. When I arrived around 6 PM for takeout, there wasn't a single empty table, & at least 10 people were already lined up for pickup - I was 10th in line. Within minutes, another 6-7 people joined behind me. Despite the crowd, everything moved quickly & efficiently.
Now, the food - we ordered a Vegetarian Bowl & a Burrito. The flavors were completely different from typical franchise-style Mexican spots. Everything tasted fresh, authentic, & full of character. Service was impressively fast, even during the rush.
The seating capacity is around 30-35 people, so it does get crowded, but that just adds to the lively atmosphere. Everyone seemed to be enjoying both the food & the ambiance.
Overall, this is a must-visit spot if you want to experience flavorful Mexican food & a vibrant atmosphere.
In my experience the best, most authentic Mexican restaurant in Montreal. Not a corporate American Disneyland version of Mexican dining, but the real thing. The decor is vintage Mexicana brought by the owner from his family ranch in Mexico. Colorful & genuine. Even using horse saddles as seats on side. The food is amazing. Fresh & a varied menu. The prices are reasonable & the service excellent with a friendly Latina staff. Also a well-stocked bar which has an excellent reputation for its margaritas.
Seating in winter is very limited & it's always a tight fit. But always worth it!
The owner is the best! Amazing authentic food, great drinks, & fun atmosphere! Great for a large party or just 2 people. The best Mexican I have had in a very long time I can't wait to return.

This place makes great tacos. They're a sin, really. They look like they'd cause a heart condition. They decorations are very authentic & are vivid & vibrant. The saddle chairs are a riot. Anyway if you are Mexican & are missing your precious tacos, Don Rigo will make it all better :) My order came with three tacos, corn chips & salsa. VERY filling.
The food is incredible, everything in the menu is fresh & delicious. The owner is regularly there & he is kind & approachable, same as all people in the restaurant; super friendly. The decoration is nice but it's a little crowded since it's an small place. Not necessarily a bad thing though, feel authentic Mexican. Great music, amazing food, friendly staff. Totally recommended!

Their prices are quite reasonable & the food is very filling. The decor is simply marvelous. I am so glad the owner, a Mexican born chef, chose to open up in the West Island. Keep up the great work!

Don Rigo makes all his food with the same degree of love & care your mother would when making a home-cooked meal from your childhood. Any pictures I'd show here just wouldn't do the food the justice it deserves. Yes, MUCH better photos by other reviewers show you the food really *IS* as *delicious* as it looks! Been coming here for years, & will continue to do so with pride 😁👍

Great food & nice authentic looking place. Very tasty tacos! It's a very small place but the concept is to choose your own toppings which is not bad. Personally I rather have more service at the table.
Fantastic but crowded'mariachi kitsch' gem tucked off St.Jean in a strip mall. The food & corner bar are more authentic & better value than Escondite, my previous favourite taqueria! The equestrian saddle chairs along the counter are a unique touch.
Absolutely incredible Tacos & Burritos. I used to go to Quesada on St-Jean every week before I found out about this place but I don't anymore, this place is the real deal, I've been going every week now for over 3 months. Authentic mom & pop Mexican food. The ambience is stunning, just look at the pictures. They have a great variety of burrito toppings to chose from, stuff I've never seen in regular chains like cactus & whatnot. Their chorizo is simply incredible. I saw a comment that they don't toast the burrito making it leaks all over the place, & it's true BUT once Marianna offered to have it toasted & it stopped the leaking. So they don't do this systematically, I think you can ask for it. They're a bit expensive but hey, I prefer giving a bit of extra money to this awesome place than to a faceless burrito chain. I highly recommend this Mexican joint.
