About

Sushi Ya Matcha delivers a focused menu centered on traditional Japanese culinary staples including fresh nigiri, sashimi, and expertly rolled maki. The kitchen prioritizes the use of seasonal seafood, ensuring each plate maintains a crisp texture and authentic flavor profile. Beyond the standard raw fish offerings, the menu incorporates warm appetizers and light bowls designed to showcase balanced umami characteristics. Patrons encounter a minimalist aesthetic that emphasizes the natural ingredients and the precision of the preparation process. The availability of high-grade green tea provides a necessary palate cleanser that complements the saline qualities of the sushi selections. Every component reflects a disciplined adherence to technique, where the vinegared rice serves as a foundation for a variety of precise marine toppings. This establishment provides a straightforward culinary approach focused on consistent quality and preparation standards.

Review Summary

Sushi Ya Matcha is widely regarded as a hidden gem in the West Island, praised for its fresh, flavorful, and authentic sushi offerings at reasonable prices. The cozy, well-decorated atmosphere and welcoming staff contribute to a highly positive dining experience, with many patrons highlighting the variety of menu options, such as poke bowls and specialty rolls, alongside gluten-free choices. While the overwhelming majority of feedback is enthusiastic about the quality and personal touch of the family-owned establishment, a small minority of diners expressed dissatisfaction with the flavor profiles of certain cooked dishes, though the consensus remains that this is a top-tier destination for high-quality Japanese cuisine.

I have been eating at this place from past year. Fresh, delicious sushi & great service! The cozy seating area makes the experience great. Their chef special crunch-style sushi rolls are a standout-tasty, creative, & definitely worth trying. Highly recommend!

Very happy to discover this sushi restaurant in the West Island. We had dinner here & we ate super well. We ordered the Sashimi platter & 9 Maki rolls. Everything was very well prepared & tasted so delicious. We also tried the desserts: the custard taiyaki (nice crispy outside), the custard cake, the matcha parfait (great for sharing) & a kinako mochi. The decor of the restaurant was cute & it reminded us of our time in Japan. The chef was very sweet & the waiter was very attentive.

Very fresh sushi served with a smile. We ordered a platter & some rolls. The menu is comprehensive & the chef offered to make sure some agadashi tofu & sonomuno salad despite not having it on the menu. The place is very clean

Ordered for delivery for the first time, the presentation was beautiful & the food looked fresh. I was somewhat disappointed that they mix sooo much tempura flakes in the'spicy salmon' maki, the spicy tuna chef's special, & the DDO maki, that I could barely taste the difference between the rolls (one is salmon, one is tuna, & one is scallop/crab...). If you're new to eating sushi then this is a great place to start, as there isn't that much fish in the rolls & the flavour is mild. However, the fish that was there was fresh & tasted good. The salmon sashimi was good & was the best item that I ordered :) If they put more fish (especially for the price you pay) & less tempura - it would be perfect!
