SunnySide Diner is widely appreciated for its welcoming atmosphere, hearty portions, and high-quality breakfast offerings that make guests feel at home. Visitors frequently highlight the delicious, freshly prepared meals, such as the signature banana bread and savory breakfast staples, noting that the food is served with genuine care. The location offers a unique dining experience, allowing patrons to enjoy their meals while watching ships pass along the canal. While service experiences vary, the staff is generally described as friendly and accommodating, contributing to the diner's reputation as a reliable and affordable spot for both locals and travelers seeking a comfortable, no-frills meal.
I give 0 stars for Atmosphere. I have never felt so uncomfortable & unwelcome in a restaurant, ever. My sister & I were traveling, & found the Sunnyside diner online. The pro's, it's a beautiful location. You have a lakeside view from every window. The restaurant is clean & bright. The prices, for this day & age, are reasonable. The con's, the wait for your order is ridiculous. The food was mediocre to poor at best. The service was abysmal. When we entered the restaurant, it was about 1:30 pm. There was one group of four waiting at another table. At 2:00 pm the the second group finally got their order & about 10 minutes later we received ours. All of the food was simple. Hamburgers, hot dogs etc. The fries were absolutely DISGUSTING. Wet, limp, & tasteless. Don't expect to receive the toppings you requested. They are merely suggestions. They will serve you what they choose. During the excessive wait, we had to listen to the senior server loudly complain, repeatedly, that she needed to leave early, & if anyone else came in, they could only do take out. The restaurant advertised that it was open until 3:00 pm but at 2:15 she was locking the door. You could hear the senior server not only complaining, but bossing the second server around; who could have probably closed the restaurant at 3:00 herself, because there were only 6 people in the entire restaurant. Overall, if you're not in a hurry, don't mind hearing the staff complain about your presence, & don't mind subpar food, then this is the perfect spot for you. If you want to feel relaxed, welcome, & enjoy a nice meal...go somewhere else.
Imagine a freighter chugging slowly past the diner you are eating at....best experience ever? NOPE! It is the pan fried spaghetti (not from Sicily) for breakfast with your eggs! Coffee is real, sausage, bacon, fried potatoes (some blackened freshly fried) are not from the day before. The service at this place is genuinely down home, true & if you come once, I guarantee you will be back. I have not had a chance to try the lunch/supper/weekend menu but I have been assured (cornbread!) it will not disappoint. Apparently, the chicken wings are a must try & the other gems on the after brunch items will not disappoint. At least go for a cup of coffee between meals....the banana bread is not that meh stuff you buy at the chains...Just like your Grandma/Mom you use to make...dense, solid, & gratifying...had i known I would have bought a whole loaf!
I called & ordered for delivery at 11:20AM, was told it would take 45 mins. No problem. After 45 mins i figured it'd be there any minute. Nope. Finally got my food after an hour & 40 minutes. Open the bag, they didn't give any syrup for my pancakes. I ordered a side of bacon, paid for a side of bacon, & there was no bacon in the bag either. Ordered fried mushrooms, they're barely cooked. Usually i have good experiences with this restaurant, but this experience today makes me want to reconsider ordering from them again. I was unfortunately very disappointed with the service today.
I had the pleasure of meeting Cheryl, who was very kind & helpful with the menu. The view of the canal will have a ship passing every now & then so that's awesome. Friendly patrons & delicious food. There's everything you need in the plaza including fuel & free wifi. Thank you Sunnyside for being so hospitable.
Our favourite haunt to fuel up with cheaper fuel, a great breakfast to fill our tummies for our days adventure & off we go. Staff are communicative & offer all commodities. Love a good diner.
Good food not rushed & I can tell the cook put some diner love into it. That cheese burger had something I miss, juicy taste. The onion rings tasted great. Even though there isnt any combos my full meal cost 14$.
Review score will balance out when I go back to try other menu items. But from the 2 items I tried they already hit it high. Whoever was in the kitchen needs to be there again. The waitress was very nice & offered some suggestions for the next time. I will be back (like the terminator haha).
