We went to Siam hoping to experience the MTL À table menu, however, when we were seated we were told that because there was a hockey game that evening, the service for the table d'hote would not start until 7p. Had I known this, I likely would have booked a later reservation but there was no mention of this at the time of booking.
We arrived slightly early & we were seated at the bar for a drink before our table became available, which was nice to just take in the ambiance & enjoy a beverage. Once seated we decided on some dishes & they were quite delicious, 10/10 across the board. Our server was also quite pleasant & checked in on us a few times throughout our meal.
The disappointing part was that it felt as though we were being rushed out. We barely sat for an hour & our meal was wrapped up. Additionally, we asked for the bill at the end, however, we still had 1/2 of our cocktails left & had intended to sit & enjoy them. When we were first seated we were told the next reservation for that table was 8:15pm & it was only 7:25pm so we figured we could chat & enjoy our drinks. However, our server promptly came over after we paid & said that the next guests arrived early (by an hour??) & that she was hoping we could clear our table within 5-10 minutes & that we could move to the bar if we really wanted to stay. Honestly, this put a damper on our experience for two reasons: (1) it felt like because we were potentially not going to spend more money that night we needed to leave & (2) we were early ourselves & sat at the bar, so why could the second set of guests who were an hour early not do the same?
All in all, our food was great but the night ended a bit sour for us with the service.
Came with a colleague for dinner on Monday around 8:30 pm. The dining room was gorgeous but despite having a reservation we were unfortunately sat in a hidden corner tucked behind the bar with awful bright lighting & no view. We then were never greeted by a server, in fact we waited almost 25 minutes & had to flag down the hostess to ask for service. She sent someone who hurriedly & extremely casually greeted us but then told us he had to bus a table before he could take our order, it was a very awkward interaction, it felt like we were inconveniencing someone who was clearly too overwhelmed to take care of us. He never gave us even a glass of water throughout our entire dinner despite us asking for it multiple times. We finally were able to order, but it honestly felt like having my order taken at Wendy's, the experience was far too casual & rushed. The food runner who brought our dishes was more professional than the waiter. Despite the waiter acknowledging how long we had waited, we were not offered anything nor did a manager come to see us.
The food, I must say, was fantastic. It was almost worth the abysmal service. The salmon in yellow curry was gorgeous & delicious. I think next time I'll just get take out & eat at home. Bad service seems to be more common throughout the city these days, it's a shame that guest experience & high standards of service are so low on the list of priorities for many restaurants in Montreal, especially downtown.
Amazing ambience at the restaurant with great food quality. I was surprised to find yummy vegan options here. Love their Mango Sorbet. Definitely a hidden gem in downtown.
I had a really great time at Siam. The food was really delicious, we ordered 3 different ones & shared, I can assure you they were all tasty. Fredrick was also quite nice, & he made the night more enjoyable for us with his presence & service. If you like spicy food, don't be afraid of Cashew Chicken.
