Sabaidee !

Cozy little spot with décor that perfectly fits its intimate vibe. The menu is simple but appealing, we tried the chicken brochette, pork boulette, papaya salad, rice salad, & fried chicken skin. Everything was tasty, but unfortunately almost all dishes were a bit too salty.
It's a charming place, especially for a date night or a quiet evening with someone special. Probably less ideal for bigger groups due to the space. Overall, a good experience & worth a visit if you're looking for a cozy night out.
We were really looking forward to trying Sep Lai for authentic Lao food, but unfortunately, it was a huge disappointment. Every dish we ordered was dominated by an overwhelming artificial lime flavor that tasted anything but authentic.
The sai oua (Lao sausage) was far too salty, & both the papaya salad & mango salad were nearly inedible. The nem khao & laab gai (chicken) didn't fare any better. In fact, we barely finished the dishes we ordered - which says a lot.
When a place advertises as authentic, you expect freshness & balance, but this was the opposite. I do not recommend Sep Lai & will not be back.
This is our go-to place in PSC for a nice terrasse with good food. We had some of their salads (papaya & mango) as it was a hot hot day & it was refreshing. The skewers are to die for & a must! Their spring rolls were also delicious & very generous in portions. Definitely recommend for a summer eat with a quiet terrasse at the back. It is also bring your own wine!
A gem in the neighbourhood, I really enjoy this little spot!
Limited indoor seating & with a quaint garden area in the back, the restaurant is located a stone's throw from the metro & plenty of street parking can be found. BYOB with generous portions for sharing, even with the two exceptions noted below, I would not hesitate in recommending nor in returning!
pros:
- intimate & great for comfortable conversation
- convenient location
- generally tasty flavours
- efficient reservation system
- lovely garden/exterior dining space
- mango salad
cons:
- Heat level of spice: I thought perhaps an oversight in our order especially as the server stressed it would be spicy. Bizarrely undetectable, including in the chili oil offered.
- Tam mak hoong (padaek): unfortunately unpalatable to my party. The padaek & salt overpowering all other flavours & excessively pungent, the papaya lacking crunch, the chili sorely absent.
this place offers the Laotian food. We ordered papaya salad, nem khao, kua mee, fried chicken skin. I love fried chicken skin, crispy & a bit salty. Very hard to find here. I wish the papaya salad would be more sep, its still not hit. Kua mee & Nem khao is good tho. When we went there, it was only one serveuse so the service was really slow.
But the serveuse is really friendly & attentive.

We were a group of four & had the degustation menu. The food was delicious, except the chicken salad. It was the only item that was disappointing, either we got a bad one or it's just too plain. The beef brochettes were exceptional. The service was great once it started, the first 30 minutes we had had someone open our wine bottle & then nothing for a bit too long.
I came with a group so we decided to order many dishes to share among us. The Laap is a fresh herb salad. The French shallots are so pungent, they overpower the taste of the herbs. So I preferred the papaya salad which was sweeter. The vegan meatballs taste & feel like real meat! They bring you a container of crushed peanuts to add on your dishes if you need. My mistake is I didn't asked if the Pina colada was vegan. It came with whipped cream on top. During summer, dining at the terrasse is a must! However, it was a bit incommodating when somebody smoking was passing by, since the terrace is in the backyard of the restaurant.

What a lovely find. The food, service, ambiance & experience all together was fantastic. The soup, chicken wings mango salad were all exceptional. Will be back for sure.
Free street parking. Reservations accepted. Need to specify that you want a table in the back otherwise small groups are placed at the high top near the entrance. BYOB. Interesting menu. The tam mak hoong (papaya salad) was inedible. I love fish sauce, but the shrimp paste or padaek was too strong. I think the wait staff should warn customers in advance how fishy the dish tastes. I don't like wasting food, but it was a hard no from the both of us. The kua mee noodles & sai oua meatballs were delicious. The citronella pork (1st photo, not on online menu) was dry & stiff. The waitress was friendly, but not the most attentive. We had to ask the kitchen to refill our water. They were sweet & offered us free dessert though: pandan crème brulée.
Sep Lai serves delicious food, prepared with fresh ingredients. Our favourite appetizers are Rouleau fromage, rouleau printanier & soup Khao Poon. For main course we love Kua Mee, Brochettes de Filet mignon, Nem Khao & Calmar Frit Tom Yum. Their Salade de Mangue is absolutely delicious. What makes this place unique is the fact that you can chose the protein you like that will be added to your dish. Because of this flexibility the restaurant is able to cater to people with allergies. Sep Lai is a bring-your-own-wine restaurant that is conveniently located across the street from the Charlevoix Metro Station. This is a perfect place for dining as a group because you can share & taste different dishes.
Sep Lai serves great food. We just love Kua Mee, Nem Khao, Calmar Frit Tom Yum, their wonderful soups & of course the rouleau Printanier & rouleau fromage. I love their salad dishes as well. Our guests are very happy to have been introduced to Sep Lai. Sep Lai is a "bring your own wine" restaurant & it is conveniently located across the street from the Charlevoix Metro station.
Wow authentic. My Lao husband said so... "pretty close to mom's". Delicious, artfully prepared dishes. We loved the laap & the fresh salads. Lovely patio & considerate service. Even a bday dessert for my daughter's 21st
