Sammi & Soupe Dumpling is repeatedly described as a go-to spot for dumplings in Montreal, delivering hot, juicy xiao long bao and a wide range of fillings from pork and chives to beef curry and shrimp, with many praising the delicate wrappers and flavorful soups and noting that the menu also includes vegetarian options and tasty fried dumplings. The experience is marked by consistency and generous portions, affordable prices, and quick, attentive service, though crowds and lines are common and seating can be tight. Several reviews highlight the spectacle of dumplings being made in front of customers, adding to the appeal, while the casual, lively atmosphere ranges from downtown bustle to a cozy terrace, with some locations described as cramped or busy on weekends. Dishes like cucumber salad and seaweed salad are often recommended, and the dumplings are praised for being freshly made, well seasoned, and served piping hot. While service experiences vary slightly, the overall sentiment across visits centers on high quality, value, and reliability, making Sammi & Soupe Dumpling a standout option for comforting, artisanal dumplings in Montreal.
The dumplings & cucumber salad is really tasty & satisfying - soft, flavorful, & cooked well. The food itself is definitely worth trying. However, the staff can be unhelpful & a bit rude at times, which takes away from the overall experience. Good food, but service needs work.
We were passing this restaurant one evening. It looked busy & decided to have a go.
The staff were helpful when asked & helped us understand the menu.
The soup arrived very quickly & it tasted nice. It was piping hot, just what you expect.
There was a wait for the the dumplings 30 mins to 45 mins. We didn't mind to much as it was packed.
The dumplings arrived & were delicious. They come in a portion of 15 , that was quite filling for 2 people. & highly recommended.
I would be aware of the Teriyaki ones as they didn't taste of teriyaki at all & were just ground mince beef. They were tasty however came in a portion of 5 for the same price as the 15.
We've ordered here numerous times- our go-to is the chicken mushroom soup dumplings. They're delicious but definitely better served in person. We've also had the lamb coriander, shrimp coriander, beef teriyaki, & fried chicken& cabbage. Everything we've had is delicious. The beef teriyaki is unique & tasty. Will continue ordering from here.
This place is really, really good. Cheap prices, good service, & ultimately excellent dumplings. Went here with my boyfriend, & we got two servings of dumplings. The first was the spicy pork steamed dumplings, which were an absolute delight, extremely tasty. We also got the fried dumplings (I believe pork & cabbage). Which were also really good.
Surprisingly tasty XiaoLongBao. Serve hot & fresh. Pork & cabbage 🥬 dumplings 🥟 were great dipping with not too spicy chilli self mix with vinegar. Thanks for the meal 🍽️
Lamb & coriander xiao long bao had delicious broth inside. Spicy cucumber dish was crunchy & tasty. Pork & chive pan fried dumplings had more muted flavors & needed the vinegar-soy combo sauce at table. It was a bustling place when we're there so don't expect a lot of attention, but servers responsive when you catch their eye. It's also not a place for quiet conversation. But good meal while on pricy side. However, worth it, as seemed like no msg, which I'm sensitive to.
The dumplings here are tasty & juicy. Stumbled across this place while exploring the area. Good find. Restaurant is small & seating is tight. Servers are attentive & helpful. Would definitely go back when I visit Montréal again.
It was my go-to dumpling place in Montreal. But not today.. not as good as before! I was very disappointed by their quality of xia long bao & pan-fried dumplings.. what happened to the place? xia long bao dough was a bit saggy & most of piece were broken, that's why juice all came out even before I picked them.. about pan-fried dumpling, they changed their dumpling shape.. from original skinny half-moon to rounded dumpling shape.. I ordered fish fan-fried dumpling ..the filling are not fresh! Edge of dumpling skin was too hard(not crispy),not seasoning! not tasty! Also, most importantly, there was no crispy layer on my pan-fried dumplings..
One of my favourite places for soup dumplings in Canada. I have been going since its opening years ago, & quality has not changed at all! Paper-thin dough, broth-filled dumplings are served in a bamboo steamer directly on your table. I always go for the classics (pork & cabbage, pork & chives) but the other options, especially anything lamb-based, are also worth a try. Vegetarian options are available & also tasty (egg & tofu-based.
I went around 2 pm on a weekend day, & even if lines were relatively short, the wait times for food once seated were very long (around 1-1h15 for steamed dumplings). There might be a staff shortage right now; still a wonderful place to grab a bite, but just be mindful of the wait times even when seated in case you’re on a schedule.
