Lovely place for lunch! Delicious dumplings, you can even see how they are cooked. I tried steamed dumplings with shrimps, tofu, mushrooms - all was great! Also hot & sour cucumber with peanut noodles was perfect as an appetizer. Atmosphere was very nice too!
I've been coming to Sammi & Soupe for years (various locations) & have always ordered the shrimp dumplings, assuming they contained only seafood. As a Muslim, I don't consume non-halal beef. Yesterday, for the first time, I visited with a friend who wears a hijab, & the waitress informed us that the shrimp dumplings are served in a beef broth prior to ordering.
I was surprised because I had never been told this during all my previous visits. It made me wonder if this information was only mentioned because my friend visibly appeared Muslim. Regardless, I believe this should be clearly indicated on the menu for everyone.
Knowing what's in the broth is important not only for people with religious dietary restrictions, but also for those with allergies, food sensitivities, or other dietary preferences. A simple note on the menu stating that the soup contains beef broth would help customers make informed choices & avoid situations like mine.
I've always enjoyed eating here, which is why I hope this feedback is taken as a suggestion to improve transparency for all customers.
Clean spot, not too busy when I was there. I had the spicy pork dumplings which were not very spicy & the pork & shrimp dumplings those were my fave. Super tasty & juicy. I also tried the beef pan fried crispy dumplings. They were OK
Inside seating is a bit tight but the atmosphere is nice. The food was so delicious. The pork & coriander dumplings are so yummy & so are the fried shrimp & cabbage dumplings. I tried the cucumber with sour & spicy sauce. I want to go back so I can order it again & again. Its cool with a hint of spicyness. I loved the presentation of the drinks. They were good.
I ordered the 10 classic soup dumplings with pork, shrimp, & scallop. Unfortunately, I only really noticed one shrimp, & the rest of the filling lacked texture & flavour. The tofu was okay, but very simple & not especially creative.
Overall, the food was fine, but for around $40, I found it pretty ordinary. The soup dumplings were decent, but the portion & overall experience did not really feel worth the price.
The biggest issue was the packaging. The bag was completely soaked with oil/sauce, & it leaked everywhere in my car. That made the experience frustrating before I even got to eat.
I wanted to like it more, but for the price, the lack of flavour, & the mess, it was just average for me.
Excellent Food , Excellent friendly staff ! Love to come here. Their shrimp cakes are excellent! Dumplings are so good. Everytime we come to Montreal we always visit here. The only thing is that the first time come here the restaurant is a bit difficult to find.....
Their soup dumplings were pretty good!
The only confusing part was finding the entrance of the restaurant since we had to walk out of the mall to get inside LOL.
I couldn't eat meat, so I got the shrimp & coriander xiao long bao & the shrimp peanut butter wontons (both were surprisingly just as good as meat options - 8/10). We also tried the tasty hot & sour cucumbers, but the portion was huge so we couldn't finish it. Staff were also super nice & accommodating.
Went here for dinner & ordered the shrimp fried dumplings as well as the pork & chives dumplings which were good! Peanut butter noodles & cucumber salad were very tasty. For dessert we ordered the chocolate dumpling which was a total disappointment , the chocolate tasted like hot chocolate & was very watery! This shouldn't even be on the menu if its not done properly :/ Definitely, not worth 5$ either!
Was what to expect since I have been to other locations. Their dumplings are always good, i wish there was more options for the pan fried ones. The service was good as there was only two waiters on a tuesday night & they were quite busy. I would of liked the timing of the food to be delivered in order as our entree came out with our main dish. Even though we were two, one dish came out 5 minutes after the other. The shrimp cakes are an acquired taste as their texture is a bit rubbery. The spacing of the tables could of been a bit better as they felt quite cramped.
Didn't like the food, nothing special & no real taste, even the peanut butter sauce not that much in the taste ( not saturated) & in the wanton dumplings didn't taste the shrimp!
The soup also needs more spices, no real taste & when we asked about salt, they don't have salt !
