Sammi & Soupe Dumpling is widely praised for handmade dumplings with a thin skin and juicy, flavorful fillings, from classic pork and chive to lamb and shrimp, with many noting strong vegetarian and vegan options and a standout wonton soup. The menu feels crafted and comforting, with sauces like peanut sauce that many diners love and a variety of bowls and bao to suit different tastes. Dishes are described as fresh, flavorful, and well made, giving a homemade feel even in a fast service setting. The atmosphere is casual and bustling in Chinatown, with quick, friendly service that keeps lines moving and prices that are seen as a great value. While waiting times can be long during peak periods, the consensus is that the dumplings and soups justify the wait. Takeout and dine-in are both popular, with dine-in preferred for the full soup-dumpling experience.
Honestly, the first time I came here was Aug 2025, & I wasn't that wowed by this place. We visited Montreal last week & craved soup dumplings, so I thought to give it a try again.
Ughhhh the pan-fried dumplings were delicious, & the lamb coriander soup dumplings were addicting & just bursting with flavour. The pork/chive XLB were good too, but the lamb coriander XLB are definitely the stars of the show.
There was a mix-up with the pan-fried dumpling, as a server accidentally gave our curry & beef to another table, so our server was super apologetic & professional. He gave us options: to take their order of pork & chive, or they can immediately start a new order of the curry & beef. Since we wanted to try the curry & beef & already had pork & chive XLB incoming, we elected for the latter option & our server completely understood. They came out super quickly.
We came at a busy time, but we were lucky & able to be seated in less than 10 minutes.

I ordered the shrimp soup dumplings & was disappointed with the shrimp dumpling because there was no soup in them. It was very dry actually & no pieces of shrimp only a shrimp paste . The. Pastry looked perfect but when I bit into them they were dry & thick. I expect a place that specializes in soup dumplings to have exquisite dumpling pastry. When one orders soup dumplings one expects a huge squirt of soup broth which is the whole point of these morsels. I have had them in New York & also in Taiwan & Vietnamese & these did not meet any minimal level of expectation. I noticed a lady beside me ordered soup dumpling s & a side of broth which would have probably saved my meal but this should not be necessary. The table on the other side of me ordered the fried dumplings & they looked good I admit.
The place was busy & turnover very quick. Service was very quick & polite. The decor is average & was clean so I'll give it that. But I was soooo looking forward to yummy soup dumplings in Montreal & this was a fail.
This soup dumpling (xiao long bao, XLB) restaurant sells just that.. I was expecting to see other dumplings or noodles on the menu. I was also disappointed to see few Chinese patrons. On my way out, there was a couple getting take out.
I got #11 pork XLB & #18 lamb & coriander. Pork was meh. Lamb was better. I asked the server for ginger, & they said they don't have it! Very surprised. I also got the fried dumplings. They're only good because they're fried.
I would not come back.
Oh, almost forgot the thing that made me puke in my mouth. This cockroach appeared on the wall next to my table!! That means there is an infestation somewhere nearby.
& we stopped here on the way for a walk. First time here. I've already seen a lot of advertising about this place, what can I say, dumplings are quite ordinary, nothing special, all classic. It seems to me that all these restaurants around the Chinese district. They are all very similar. They are like dumplings. Some are boiled, some are fried, but I can't point out any features, so I give it a three. Only because, well, it's normal.🤷🏻?♂?
Amazing food!! I was extremely impressed. I may have ordered too much but I ate all of it! Dumplings, fried (pork & cabbage) & steamed (coriander & pork) with a wonton soup!

Another new restaurant to put in the rotation for when we visit Montreal. The fried dumplings were good but the soup dumplings were out of this world.
We got pork & chive dumplings & will definitely get those next time we go back as well as more of the soup dumplings.
Food was delicious. The fried beef curry dumplings the peanut butter dumplings, spicy cucumber were all really good. Atmosphere & music was enjoyable. After we were served our appetizers the service was not as attentive. The server could have done a better job to check on us, see if the food was good & refill our water.
The first time I visited this place, my wife & I were amazed about the quality of the dumplings, the flavor & the filling. Fried curry chicken are so rich in flavor that I would consider it the star dish. However, for our second visit, we noticed the service was really low. They took 15 min to get someone for our order. Then, our intention was to have 2 different dumplings but one of them was given to another table or just missed. Until I asked the waiter what happened to the order, she apologized & it took another 20 min to get them. I cant complain at all, but this place gets really crowded sometimes. It is worth the wait but just consider it.
Ordered the seaweed salad, spicy tofu, pork soup dumplings, & pork & chives fried dumplings. Loved the spicy tofu. Soft, refreshing, lightly sweeten, & spice were just right. The pork soup dumplings were delicious. Fried dumplings are just okay.

The dumplings here are delicious. We tried the pork & cabbage ones & the lamb ones & they were both very tasty. There was also juice on the inside of it. So be careful one the first bite. The spicy oil is not spicy at all. So worries if you might see it on the cold peanut butter noodles. However, I find that the noodles were a little too cold & made them a little on the harder side. I had to let them sit for a little bit to warm up & it was a bit better. The sauce only had a slight peanut butter taste. I had the same dish at another one of their locations & it was much better. I would probably not order this from here again. Also their steamer was broken when we were there & we couldn't order any steamed dumplings. Despite all these things, I still enjoyed my experience & I recommend their fried dumplings.
Little dumpling spot in Chinatown, had a lot of traffic coming in so that was a good indicator that the food was good. I ordered the juicy pork dumplings/ original soup dumpling & a side of the peanut sauce, along with the hot & sour cucumber & the beef & curry pan fried dumplings. Both dumpling options were really good rebut to me the soup dumplings were the star of the show. If you're trying this place alone or for a table of 2, their dumpling portions are large, fyi. Also get the peanut sauce, you won't regret it!
Best steamed dumplings I ever had! Didn't even know I liked them before going to this restaurant! I was however not impressed by the fried dumplings & the starter there, so I'll go back only for the steamed. I also always had to wait for the times I've been there, so you have to be prepared.

If you like dumplings served 20 different ways this is the place to go. 4 of us tried the soup - pork, shrimp & scallop dumplings, soup - chicken & mushroom dumplings, pan fried - pork & Chinese cabbage dumplings, pan fried - pork $ chive dumplings All dishes were around $15. Fresh handmade dumplings cooked to order. Very tasty & came with chilli sauce, soya & vinegar sauce for dipping. Super filling. The restaurant is in the heart of Montreal Chinatown & is very busy & crowded but the service is quick & tables turn over fast. A definite must try for dumpling lovers.
My Chinese friend recommended this place. We had pan-fried dumplings because you get fewer dumplings if you choose steamed unlike other dumpling restaurants in Chinatown. There was a long line up with (seemed to be) locals which was a good sign so we called for pick up & ate in our hotel room. By the time we got the hotel, dumplings were not super hot but warm. Dumplings were cooked well, juicy inside & crispy outside - we loved it. I'll certainly try steamed one next time! I highly recommend this place & you should call (more expensive with Uber Eats etc) for pick up & skip the line :)
These dumplings have such a nostalgic taste 🥹 In the heart of Chinatown & inexpensive. I can also recommend the pan fried dumplings on top of the famous soup dumplings.
