Edit: I come back & everything was perfect
Thanks for coming back to the essence :)
The main courses took almost 30 minutes to be served. The duck was salty & dry, while the ribs were bland & also dry.
Due to the excessive noise in the main dining room, we asked to move to the patio, where there were plenty of available tables, but our request was declined. When we left, those tables were still empty.
We are so grateful to have such an amazing establishment in La Conception.
Ambience:
We dine regularly & can attest that it is the perfect place for:
-drinks at the bar
-early dinner with young children
-date night
-takeout
There is plenty of seating options for any affair & I have also seen large groups be well catered to without it affecting our service.
Food:
The menu changes somewhat during seasons. There is often a special of the evening. I highly recommend the caesar salad, duck confit, & any of the pizzas. The appetizers are great for sharing; we like the burrata & the croquettes. My husband hopes they bring back the Raclette pizza!
The service is always so friendly & they are so patient while I practice my french. The wines by the glass are exceptional value. It is definitely worth the drive from Mont Tremblant!
We are staying nearby & were able to walk to this beauty, large covered patio & booth seating available. English was spoken when needed & service was excellent. I love duck confit as I rarely make it at home & find this a treat. It was lovely & tender, could've had a better skin crisp, but still delish. My bride went with chef choice & they decided on the chicken which she said was lovely. My friends had the tender beef which I sampled & it was excellent, tender & full of flavour. The other had ribs, which fell off the bone, but she also would've preferred a carmelization of the sauce. dessert was a decent maple creme brule & an undressed cheese cake ( my friends don't like sauce?) Great spot with no real competition nearby. Keep up the simple yet delightful meals.
I felt like I went to a different restaurant than the other reviewers ... Maybe I leaned to hard into the sound of an'auberge' & not enough in'resto-pub'. In either event, despite a really great server, me & my family were pretty disappointed. The food was very sub-par for the price-point. My duck confit was not confit, just slow-cooked, with an overpowering brown sauce that tasted pre-packaged. My daughter's pizza crust was just okay & the margarita had no tomato sauce, but cheese covered by sliced tomotos, & was not a hit. The wings were tasty but tiny, with the tips still attached - adding to the 1lb but not really food ... The ribs were also saucy but seemed to be parboiled then sauced, not really bbq'd. My wife's first glass of wine was very scant, then the second quite full... & the whole time, there was loud club-adjacent music - more bar than pub & certainly not restaurant music, imo. The room was pleasant if a little characterless. Not sure if we hit an'off' night, but pretty disappointing, all in all.
The food was excellent. The duck in particular. However, service was very slow & the atmosphere was very loud.
