Review Summary

Restaurant PM is described as a straightforward, no frills Chinese spot downtown with clean but simple decor and no pretensions of fine dining. Service is consistently fast and attentive, portions are large for a low price, and the place is regarded as a reliable option for a hearty, affordable meal. Diners note a broad range of Eastern Asian dishes and favorites like General Tao chicken, fried rice, eggplant dishes, and other Cantonese staples, all delivered quickly with solid flavor. While the atmosphere is practical and not fancy, it is considered a safe spot for takeout or casual dinners and even small group celebrations. Overall, Restaurant PM is seen as one of the more generous and dependable fast Chinese choices in the area, valued for value, consistency, and speed across visits.

I've had a large seafood tofu soup, seafood chowmein, tofu with eggplant & beef with chinese brocoli. Their dishes are delicious dead serious. I used to go eat at this place many years ago in my twenties, & it hasn't changed at all! I have tried a lot of their dishes for many years & I was never disappointed. When I can't go to Chinatown because Im already downtown i go here Great fast service, tasty food, my go to place. update december 2024 went back again! food never disappoints! must-try their japanese tofu with eggplants…

Whenever my family & I are coming home from Montreal, we always make sure to stop in for lunch. It's a family favorite of ours. The food is always great, the place is a good sized restaurant. Huge shout-out to the manager Wayne for being a wonderful man/manager, who always remembers us.

The food was terrible. You could tell that the cook had used powder mixes to make the sauces, & the powder had not fully dissolved. It tasted flat & artificial. The "crispy noodles" in the Cantonese dish were burned at one end, & congealed at the other. The waiter was very slow & confused, forgot our table a couple of times, mixed up our order with another table. No attention to the drinking water, & we kept having to signal to ask for basic things that should have been on the table. Years ago, there was the Hong Kong House Chinese restaurant on St. Catherine Street West in downtown Montreal. It was excellent. The menu featured a selection of complete meals from soup to dessert & a free pot of tea. There is nothing like it any more. PM for example has only individual dishes. At about $15 a plate, it's hard to put any variety together to make a real family meal. & everything costs extra. Rice, soup, tea, & we didn't even get a fortune cookie or an almond cookie at the end! PM was long, slow, tedious, an unattractive atmosphere (an ugly restaurant), & finally, at the cash, when we paid in spite of the terrible food, we tried politely to mention it to the cashier who became extremely rude & yelled in our faces, which scared the kids. Didn't think of it till we were outside, or we'd have gone back to the table to scoop up the tip we had left. I wouldn't go there again. It's not "authentic" Chinese, either. It's pseudo-American Chinese. Also, they are supposed to have free wifi there, but it wasn't working.

Terrible attention to detail. Ordered with details to allergies & still arrived wrong. Very good about replacing but 2 hours after order finally ate. Food bland & low quality for the price. I am happy to pay well for good food but feel like I spent a lot for second rate food ar best.

I've been to this restaurant a lot every year.

The restaurant is not big enough, that's about the only thing I'm not satisfied. & of course, the waiters depending on the day & mood are a bit unpredictable. In general I'd recommend the restaurant to those seeking genuine Chinese, please note, the genuine authentic Chinese food.

The restaurant is more a Cantonese style, meaning mild & the cooking style is to bring out the taste of food itself, remarkable. To add on that, the chef added a few dishes to the menu like green beans (sorry I don't know the name in English) & Japanese toufu are highly recommended.

In years I've dined there I'm never disappointed. that is the reason I always take my guests there, or simply dine for pleasure.
