Restaurant PM specializes in the complex interplay of regional Chinese and Szechuan culinary traditions, characterized by the deliberate use of numbing peppercorns and vibrant chili infusions. The menu highlights a commitment to robust spice profiles and the delicate balance of Thai aromatics that define its diverse flavor landscape. Diners experience a menu structured around traditional stir-fry techniques and authentic wok-seared preparations that prioritize textural integrity. Each dish serves as a showcase of bold seasoning, reflecting deep-rooted mastery over heat and fragrant botanical elements. The environment focuses on functionality and efficiency, supporting an experience centered entirely on the delivery of intense, multi-layered tastes. This establishment maintains a rigorous consistency in ingredient preparation, ensuring that every plate reflects the specific, sharp characteristics required by its fusion of distinctive pan-Asian cooking styles.
Overall the consensus is that Restaurant PM delivers tasty and fresh Chinese food with generous portions, fast service, and attentive multilingual staff, offering a broad menu that blends traditional Cantonese dishes with familiar North American staples at reasonable prices; many guests praise the consistent quality and value, with standout items such as General Tao, spicy tofu, and fried rice, and plates arriving quickly with ample servings, though a few reviews note that some dishes like the egg roll do not look right and that occasionally hours are inconsistent, leading to dine in limits or a shift toward takeout; the atmosphere is described as clean and unpretentious, making it a reliable choice for quick, flavorful meals in the downtown area.
Old school Cantonese restaurant with efficient service & generous portions. There must be some magic in the kitchen because food is ready before you have the time to finish your first cup of tea.
Menu has all the north American favorites as well as plenty of dishes for more Asian palate.
Hostess & waitstaff are super friendly & multilingual.
The food here is always great & fresh. Also, they have very authentic Chinese food as well as more western dishes. Les repas sont toujours excellent & on peut trouver des repas authentique chinois & aussi des plat plus à la saveur nord-américaine.

I've had a large seafood tofu soup, seafood chowmein, tofu with eggplant & beef with chinese brocoli. Their dishes are delicious dead serious. I used to go eat at this place many years ago in my twenties, & it hasn't changed at all! I have tried a lot of their dishes for many years & I was never disappointed. When I can't go to Chinatown because Im already downtown i go here Great fast service, tasty food, my go to place. update december 2024 went back again! food never disappoints! must-try their japanese tofu with eggplants…
The food was terrible. You could tell that the cook had used powder mixes to make the sauces, & the powder had not fully dissolved. It tasted flat & artificial. The "crispy noodles" in the Cantonese dish were burned at one end, & congealed at the other. The waiter was very slow & confused, forgot our table a couple of times, mixed up our order with another table. No attention to the drinking water, & we kept having to signal to ask for basic things that should have been on the table. Years ago, there was the Hong Kong House Chinese restaurant on St. Catherine Street West in downtown Montreal. It was excellent. The menu featured a selection of complete meals from soup to dessert & a free pot of tea. There is nothing like it any more. PM for example has only individual dishes. At about $15 a plate, it's hard to put any variety together to make a real family meal. & everything costs extra. Rice, soup, tea, & we didn't even get a fortune cookie or an almond cookie at the end! PM was long, slow, tedious, an unattractive atmosphere (an ugly restaurant), & finally, at the cash, when we paid in spite of the terrible food, we tried politely to mention it to the cashier who became extremely rude & yelled in our faces, which scared the kids. Didn't think of it till we were outside, or we'd have gone back to the table to scoop up the tip we had left. I wouldn't go there again. It's not "authentic" Chinese, either. It's pseudo-American Chinese. Also, they are supposed to have free wifi there, but it wasn't working.

The restaurant is not big enough, that's about the only thing I'm not satisfied. & of course, the waiters depending on the day & mood are a bit unpredictable. In general I'd recommend the restaurant to those seeking genuine Chinese, please note, the genuine authentic Chinese food.
The restaurant is more a Cantonese style, meaning mild & the cooking style is to bring out the taste of food itself, remarkable. To add on that, the chef added a few dishes to the menu like green beans (sorry I don't know the name in English) & Japanese toufu are highly recommended.
In years I've dined there I'm never disappointed. that is the reason I always take my guests there, or simply dine for pleasure.
