The wonton noodle soup I ordered was absolutely delicious & did wonders for my ability to cope with the cold! The staff was lovely too & the prices very reasonable. This place is a little bit off the beaten path, but only a couple minutes away from shopping on St Catherine. I would definitely recommend making the short trip & I will be back!
LOVE the pork intestine soup!!!! So clean & so full of flavor even has just the right amount of spice & sesame.
Nice Chinese restaurant. The beef & eggs stone pot rice is flavourful. It comes with a soup as well. Chicken rice with a lot of ginger on it. Personally i like ginger, so i dont mind. Appetizers are tasty especially the deep fried pork. Cold served spicy chicken is juicy.
One of the very few restaurants in Montreal that have Hainan chicken & it's very delicious. The shrimp wonton soup & claypot rice are wonderful as well. It's a hidden gem in Montreal & I'll be coming back for sure.
I feel sorry to rate 2/5 because Pinophyta has unique items, the service is so great, but the food really disappoints. This is the epitome of just because you are different, high quality, & put in a great effort it does not make you good.
First, if you are going to serve COLD blanched flavourless chicken (poulet salivant) then please clarify so. The fridge-cold chicken 🐔❄? was unexpected & unpleasant.
Secondly, the wonton soup hits you with a disappointing broth smell. Strange flavour & taste, & the meat inside the wonton not properly cooked, or wrong flavour idk (pork or beef + shrimp). It's weird bc it feels like they did put in a great deal of effort. I also found the noodles underwhelming, but still high quality, not cheap.
Good peanut butter dumplings 🥟 & the service from the dark haired lady (early 20s maybe) with glasses very polite & respectful.
Maybe the food is really authentically Chinese & my taste buds have adapted to Chinese-Canadian expectations too much. Until then, this place is only 2/5 for me, but I find it great others like it so much the average goes to 4.8/5, provided the reviews are authentic.
Worth a try, but expect very different & potentially unpleasant. Go if you want an unexpected experience while accepting the risk of positive or negative.
A real find thanks to Evanvanyamtl on TikTok. The Mini wontons aux crevettes à la cantonaise soup was delicious, as was the Sago au lait de coco & mangue for dessert. The establishment is spotless. The service was excellent. Pinphyta is a short walk down Union Avenue from St. Catherine Street.
Not Spicy to korean. Soup is delicious & you can choose 6 noodle type.
I pick the most thin noodle & it is soft & yummy.
Very authentic Cantonese food. Claypot rice is SO good! Nice service too. Seafood spring roll is a must try. Wonton soup is a must have. Freshly homemade…
My colleague brought me here for lunch as she is a long time regular. Very good quality food, beautiful lunch spot & great service. Daniel the manager is very charming & welcoming. The hot pots, soups & dumplings were great!
Incredible food. Easily the best clay pot rice in Montreal I've had so far. So we split a spicy beef clay pot rice, a mushroom clay pot rice, a hainanese chicken rice & a shrimp fried rice, the set meals also came with a soup which was quite nice. The best in my opinion was the mushroom clay pot & the hainanese chicken rice, both kept me salivating between bites. The best treat though of course is the crispy rice at the bottom of the clay pots. Bro I'd fight the table for the last bite of that. 10/10 I'd go again, & order less rice dishes & try some of the other stuff on the menu like those dumplings, because damn they looked good too. Oh yeah, interior & atmosphere was great, bring a date here, cause it does feel swanky.
This menu features Chinese classics like Hainan chicken, beef noodle soup, & chilled beef shank. I found the flavours familiar but somewhat muted for the occidental palate but not their wallet. I suggest trekking to Chinatown or the suburbs for the real deal at lower prices & larger portions. The service & ambiance were impeccable.
Pinophyta may have an unusual name, but it's a hidden gem for neighborhood, family-style Chinese cuisine. I only ordered a few small bites & a clear soup, but everything was comforting-exactly what a traveler needs. The restaurant is clean (no sticky tables!) & well spaced, making for a relaxed & pleasant dining experience. I'd definitely come back, & I highly recommend it as a go-to spot for families or everyday meals. 10/10.
Best & most reasonably priced meal in Montreal! So kind & also delicious! The dumplings are an absolute must. Super juicy & flavorful. The clay pot bowls were delicious as well & the crispy rice on the bottom was delicious with the soup it came with. The chicken in the chicken clay pot bowl was incredibly tender & juicy. The beef & egg in the beef & egg bowl was so well sauced & the egg was soft & tender. Highly reccomend!
Incredibly sweet owner/staff, just makes you feel right at home, so kind & patient, gave us recommendations that were the best, we took the pork dumplings, delicious, the claypot rice with meat, so the meat tastes like bacon I would say, it doesn't look like it but that's the flavor I got, sooooo good, the rice is crispy at the bottom, I flipped it & took a picture of that, it's delicious, the best was the soup, it's beef broth & the meat, OMG it fell apart in my mouth, it was so tender I was able to give it to our toothless chihuahua, she just gobbled it up, that soup has the best tasting broth, better than a lot of the Pho places in Chinatown. Very reasonable prices, we ordered 3 dishes & it cost us 70$ with 18% tip. Will definitely be back!
Claypot rice beef & egg tastes good, crispy outside & soft interior! Noodle soup also yummy! Love place & nice service!
