Shabby looking place but we ordered takeout & the food is delicious. Fast & nice service.
We ordered the:
Cha Kroeung
Riz Loc Lac
Portions are quite good the Cha Kroeung comes with rice.
On a rainy day driving over to Montreal, I was looking for hearty meal. I've never tried Cambodian food but their existing reviews stating it tastes like authentic Cambodian cuisine enticed me to come in & try.
My personal stand outs for me were the grilled lemon grass chicken, loved the fried egg, rice & pickled carrots either cabbage . The entire rice dish was delicious.
The soup had special lemon grass meat balls which I could instantly tell these were in house made. The soup was so clean & light. Really nice flavour balancing.
Would definitely stop by again if I had a chance to drive by.
Bonus they had old school pac man & rampage games available to play on while we were waiting for our food.
Ordered:
3 Color Rice $16.85
• 2 beef Skewers, 1 Piece grilled chicken, 2 fried rolls, Fried Egg, White rice, Carrot Salad, Sauce
Tonkinoise LeKhmer $13.95
• Soup with Rice noodles, Chicken Broth. Served with Chicken + Beef balls + Shrimp.
I've been to Khmer several times in the past, mostly around the time they first opened, & I remember enjoying it quite a lot. I also recall the owners being very kind, which is why this recent visit was especially disappointing.
I had lunch for two people this time. The Soup Angkor was fine, & the fried spring rolls were also okay. Nothing remarkable, but acceptable.
Unfortunately, the rest of the meal fell short of what I remembered. The chicken wings, which I've enjoyed on previous visits, tasted over-fried & then reheated, leaving them greasy & dry. Most surprising was the rice: although the portion was generous, it was very dry & seemed stale. As someone who cooks rice at home using a simple rice cooker, I found this hard to understand, as good rice is usually very easy to get right. I only managed to eat a few bites.
The Tonkinoise soup was also quite bland. The broth, served separately (for take-out), looked & tasted mostly like water with very little depth or seasoning.
To the owners: this review is not meant to be negative for the sake of it. I truly hope you take it as constructive feedback. I've enjoyed your restaurant in the past & would love to see the quality return to what it once was.
We absolutely love this place! Very well done for the fried chicken, soups, variety of rice dishes! Khmer flavours are rare in Montreal, this friendly place is a success! Locals come here to dine too!
I was hungry for something bold & flavourful & this was exactly that
I ordered the Loc Lac rice & it was delicious
Will definitely be eating here again & i suggest it to anyone who likes good food
