We went on Christmas Eve with a reservation for 4 adults & 2 four-year-olds at 5:30 PM. We were seated in a back room away from the main dining area, & the heating was so poor we all had to keep our jackets on the entire dinner. Not a great start to what was supposed to be a special holiday meal.

Only one person ordered the table d'hôte'6-course meal,' but calling it 6 courses is misleading - it's realistically 4 small courses with 2 tiny add-ons (a spoon of purée or a shot glass of sherbet shouldn't count as a course). The rest of the food followed the same pattern: cold soup, warm white wine, extremely small portions, & my main had only 3 small cubes of beef.

Service was honestly some of the worst we've experienced:
• dinner took over 2.5 hours,
• we had to get up repeatedly to find the waitress,
• bread only came after asking, & we had to ask again for butter.

It felt like no one was actually taking care of our table.

But the worst part was the next day - Christmas Day. The owner called, not to apologize or follow up, but to ask for my email to send me a bill to clean the tablecloth because our 4-year-old accidentally drew on it. When I calmly explained how bad our experience was, his response was basically:'You paid $51 for a 6-course meal, what did you expect?'

Price doesn't excuse cold food, tiny portions, slow service, or misleading courses - & it certainly doesn't justify calling a customer on Christmas Day to charge them for a tablecloth used by a child.

What makes this more disappointing is that I live nearby & have eaten here before. I would have been willing to consider this a one-off bad night - but after that call & lack of accountability, he lost a customer for life. & judging by his responses to other reviews, this attitude is not new.

In short: cold room, cold soup, warm wine, tiny portions, slow inattentive service, misleading menu, & an owner who lacks professionalism.
A very bad experience from beginning to end - & after.

Great French Cuisine Nov 3rd.
Very friendly service. We ordered the $51 table d' hote
Sticking to the $51 is very doable.
All the dishes were very flavorful including the granite which was different than usual.
We did $ 10 & $6 for certain dishes that we wanted to try.
They have updated their table d'hote today Nov 4th which also looks very interesting. The St. Valentine day menu looks really good too but I do not see price listed.

We just had a great dinner there this evening. Great table d'hote. I had a salad- soup- braised beef with potatoes & for dessert a poached pear with ice cream. All for $51. Friendly service. Located in a former hospital from the 1800's , which then became a country home for the mayor of Montreal in the early 1900's. Now it's an inn. A singer played guitar & sang French songs. Very pleasant ambiance!
