I've rarely had a worse dining experience. We ordered the family combo, but everything felt like day-old leftovers; the Peruvian chicken & fries were clearly just reheated & served lukewarm. To make matters worse, the timing was absurd… they brought the fries & salad out, & we sat staring at them for 10 minutes before the chicken finally arrived.
The service was the final straw. Despite the menu stating the combo included a beverage, the waiter tried to sneak an extra charge onto our bill. I literally had to point to the menu to prove him wrong, & he just offered a weak excuse. For these prices, the quality is really bad. I won't be back.
If you're craving the best Peruvian Pollo a la Brasa in Montreal, look no further than El Gallo on Rue St-Hubert! This gem serves up perfectly marinated, juicy, & tender rotisserie chicken with that signature smoky, crispy skin that keeps you coming back for more. The flavors are authentic & bold-truly a standout in the city's vibrant Peruvian food scene.
Beyond the star chicken, the sides complement the meal perfectly, & the casual, cozy atmosphere makes it a great spot for a relaxed lunch or dinner. Locals rave about the generous portions & fair prices, making El Gallo a fantastic choice whether you're dining in or grabbing takeout.
If you want to experience real Peruvian comfort food done right, El Gallo is a must-visit. Don't miss out on their legendary Pollo a la Brasa-it's hands down the best in town!
Perfect for foodies & anyone looking to spice up their routine with some delicious Peruvian flavors. Highly recommended!
I had Jalea, it's a pretty small portion compared to other Peruvian restaurants on the street.
As a Peruvian & a big time picky eater, I can attest to the great quality of this restaurant. The wait time was reasonable which made the service superb. My order was a pollo a la brasa (chicken breast) with salad & fries & it tasted just like home. Will definitely come back soon to try other dishes on the menu.
Ive visited the restaurant for the peruvian roasted chicken "pollo a la brasa" different times here & it was ok! However, this last time I went there it tasted nothing, not like Peruvian roasted chicken, even the seasoning was not there, the oven tasted either, potatoes not as usual either. It seemed like supermarket roasted chicken but expensive.
The food was better than I expected. Quite tasty with the original peruvian flavours. Servers were friendly & so able to respond our inquiries.
I'm a huge fan of latin food in general, Peruvian food being a highlight. I have to say this was a pretty disappointing experience for a few reasons. The menu seemed to be more of a Peruvian take on American cuisine than actual Peruvian dishes. There were some but there were items like chinese-style chicken fried rice, burgers & other foods that aren't traditionally latino. I tried the fried rice anyway & honestly it tasted just like chinese food minus the oil that they used & the salsa I added on top. What really hurt my experience at this place though was the inattentive service. Nobody seated us, we waited for minutes until we just sat at a table. Took a while to get our orders taken. The actual food didn't take too long to come out, but once it did we weren't given any sauces - had to take them from another table. After finishing, the longest wait occurred for the bill. Wasted a lot of time waiting for service here & it was not packed.
Im half Peruvian & I went there on a sunday, middle afternoon for lunch, everything was delicious, & the staff really friendly. I had the pollo a la brasa (breast) with rice & a chicha morada so so good !! I recommend the chicha morada. The green & yellow sauce are a little spicy.
Delicious Peruvian Fare at Gallo - A Must-Visit in Jean Talon My recent visit to Gallo, nestled in the vibrant Jean Talon area, was a delightful culinary journey that I'm eager to share. If you're a fan of Peruvian cuisine or looking to dip your toes into its rich flavors, Gallo should undoubtedly be on your list. First off, the food was an absolute highlight. The chicken, which seems to be a staple of their menu, was cooked to perfection. Opting for the half chicken for two, my dining companion & I were pleasantly surprised by the generous portion size. It was more than enough for us, accompanied by a hearty serving of fries. The sauces served alongside were not only delicious but also catered to those who might shy away from spicy food, striking the perfect balance of flavor without the heat. The service at Gallo deserves special mention as well. Our experience was marked by prompt & attentive service, ensuring that our meal was both enjoyable & smooth. It's always a pleasure to dine at a restaurant where the staff make you feel welcome & valued, & Gallo did just that. Another aspect that sets Gallo apart is its value for money. It's refreshing to find a restaurant where you can enjoy high-quality food that doesn't break the bank. This place proves that you don't have to compromise on quality for affordability. In conclusion, Gallo is a gem in Jean Talon, offering delicious Peruvian cuisine, excellent service, & great value. Whether you're a long-time lover of Peruvian food or curious to try something new, I highly recommend giving Gallo a visit. It's a fantastic restaurant that promises a delightful dining experience without a hefty price tag.
The most authentic Peruvian food I've eaten in Montréal! The Ceviche is amazing along side the Lomo Saltado & the Jalea. Their cocktails are very well made, I highly recommend eating & drinking here :)
Excellent Peruvian restaurant, with very good food & affordable price!

Be careful! This restaurant is not a good representation of Peruvian food. Their service is horrible. Plus their food is very dirty & overpriced. Peruvian food is really good but restaurants like this " Restaurant El Gallo" from Montreal should shut down.
