Review Summary

Poissonnerie Rayan is widely praised for fresh seafood and a market style where guests select fish from a display and choose how it is prepared, whether grilled or fried. Reviews describe generous portions, flavorful preparation, and dishes that feel fresh and light, with favorites like calamari, shrimp, octopus, mussels and various fish. The experience is often likened to seaside markets and the atmosphere can feel warm and authentic, though some note that the decor may not match the price and the venue can seem busy. Pricing and transparency receive mixed feedback, with some mentioning no upfront prices and others pointing out cash transactions may incur taxes or added charges. Overall, Poissonnerie Rayan remains a top pick for seafood lovers in Montreal, celebrated for quality and consistency by many regulars, even as a few reviews call the value into question.

The fries & salads were so good!
We ordered sword fish, octopus & Shrimp.
Octopus was too soft, other than that everything were good.

If you are seafoods lovers this is a place you must come. Here you need to come & select your fish & ask them how to prepare it!!! Such a nice experience!!

We had potato wedges; definitely one of the best potato wedges I have ever had.

Grilled octopus was fabulous; the preparation was completely unique; probably the best grilled octopus I have ever had in my life. But you need to eat it when it's hot; the more cold it becomes it will lose the taste.

Then comes to fried red snapper; it was delicious as well.

Overall it was an amazing experience; very friendly customer service.

However keep it in mind; it's really expensive place as well; so it's not somewhere you can go a lot even if you want.

Favorite seafood restaurant ever. Food is always fresh & the place very clean. They offer a large variety of seafood products. Even if the place is often crowded, the dining room is so large & the staff so efficient, I never had to wait to long. I always take the octopus, tiger shrimp, calamari, potatoes & salad 👌👌👌

Overall the food is good. Only the octopus is a bit too expensive. $38 per pound!

All the food was wonderful. We had the calamari, rice pilaf, fried basa & the sauteed shrimp in garlic sauce. The grilled octopus was excellent-- tender but with a nice smoky taste. However...make sure you have loads of cash with you.

Hands down the best fish resto in MTL!! Everything is always fresh, especially the octopus which melts in your mouth, fried calamari, shrimp, & red snapper.

Seafood is my comfort food. Rayan is the closest to go. Yesterday, i bought fried calamares, octopus & rice for dinner to go. It cost much but its worth it. Its delicious & you will surely get full.
