I went for the fish & chips & the fish portion was horrible undercooked & also chewy. Bad portion as well. On top of this when I went to pickup for takeout they had a cash only which of course had an atm even though they had a debit machine. Charge me an extra 3$ to take out cash. Something they could have said on the phone. DO NOT RECOMMEND.
Rayan is a favourite of mine, I am a regular. It reminds me of being in Egypt where fresh fish has been caught. You pick your fish & let them know how you would like it prepared & seasoned. Our favourites the smelt, shrimps, potatoe wedges & salad. There is bound to be left overs. Portions are generous. The seasoning, textures & freshness are unbeatable. They have sustainable take boxes & paper bags. We were three women & could not eat it all. Served family style. The owner is a delightful Egyptian Canadian gentlemen. The staff, team are helpful. Service is great. The flavours, freshness of our seafood & fish dishes are delicious. I feel as if I am by a seaside restaurant in Alexandria or the Red Sea. With Egyptian music playing in the background. Fun as I would recognise the music!
They have no beer, wine, alcohol nor is it a BYOW.( just like in Egypt). They do have Egyptian soft drinks.
Its always full after 20h00. The diners come diverse backgrounds, just like the neighbourhood & it is just beautiful.
If you are seafoods lovers this is a place you must come. Here you need to come & select your fish & ask them how to prepare it!!! Such a nice experience!!
We had potato wedges; definitely one of the best potato wedges I have ever had.
Grilled octopus was fabulous; the preparation was completely unique; probably the best grilled octopus I have ever had in my life. But you need to eat it when it's hot; the more cold it becomes it will lose the taste.
Then comes to fried red snapper; it was delicious as well.
Overall it was an amazing experience; very friendly customer service.
However keep it in mind; it's really expensive place as well; so it's not somewhere you can go a lot even if you want.
the sword fish was good!
Always come with salad & fries, recommended!
octopus wasn't the best tho.
Very good fish place. You can buy the fish to take or have it cooked in different ways & eat at the restaurant.
We tried the red snapper & the calamari. Both were very good.
Had veggies & bread too with our meal.
The service was good, but thebl place can get busy, so you need to be patient. Definitely worth it.
I will definitely came back here & try other items.
Shrimp looked good too.
Make sure you have a debit card or cash. They do not take credit cards.
The only negative I have is the bathroom, please have it checked & cleaned little more often.
Best Fish & Chips, ever!! Amazing seafood restaurant!! Friendly, attentive staff & service.
The food is very good & fresh, but the service is strange, definitely not in a good way.
When you enter, they guide you to choose your seafood items from the fridge, & then in a matter of seconds(!), you are stuck with some big portions, to which you really didn't consent! You have no clear idea how much your food is going to cost or weigh.
They have a wide selection of fish & other seafood items which is nice, but there is no one to properly explain for you what they are, how they are cooked (grilled? fried? etc.) I think they should respect their customers more, give them a decent menu, & enough time at the table to order properly, instead of rushing them to order right away in front of a crowded fridge.
Rayan is a seafood restaurant that offers a truly fresh & unique experience. The moment you arrive, you'll be guided to the display fridge to choose from a variety of fish, shrimp, crab, & other available seafood. You simply pick what you like, & then you're shown to your table.
Right away, your seafood is freshly prepared & served in a delicious Greek style. If you love seafood, I'm sure you'll be happy with your choice.
Personally, I don't particularly enjoy peeling shrimp at the table, but that takes nothing away from the freshness & incredible taste of the food.
The restaurant is great, the fish is so yummy!
Washrooms are very very clean. & the atmosphere is nice with music.
The staff is so friendly, I highly recommend this place even if the price is a little bit high!
Nothing to tell honestly. Rayan is a small fresh fish & seafood market & restaurant that has such great taste ! If you love seafood. There are dinning family tables for supper time meals in a middle eastern style that you have choices to choose from. Different rice styles. You choose how you want your order cooked & etc. or just bring it home & do your own thing but they don't mind. Every time I've been there I was served with lots of smiles & intent listening. They seem to always want to get it right for you & I love that.
Seating, pricing & service is very delightful here ! Tell them I sent you ! ❤?
Good quality, fresh fish, a bit prices but place is clean & food amazing. Having problems to communicate in english & French tho
Fish, fish, fish: this is an excellent place for lunch. We tried the following: queue d'homard, saumon, calamard, salade, crevettes, soupe. Top quality-of-experience for us.
I used to really enjoy this place, but I hadn't been in years. Unfortunately, my recent visit didn't live up to the memories. The potato wedges were dry on the inside. The small fish was so tiny that after frying, it turned into mostly crunchy, oily bits. Even though the sardines were really good, still, overall, the quality has slipped.
I would say the food is ok but a little expensive. The behaviour from the servers were very good. But the guy from whom we chose the fish & weights he was very rude & intimidating. He was kind of rushing us & forcing us to buy some items. & was not giving us time to choose.
The calamaris were definitely old & very chewy wouldn't recommend. I ordered a fish I thought I was ordering fried fillet of fish but they just fried the entire fish I choose there was no seasoning whatsoever. I took the tiger shrimps in butter once again lack of flavor very low on salt. Overall very disappointing I used to like this restaurant.
A great place to have home-made grilled fish, & other fresh seafood with supportive staff.
I don't think there is a better fish restaurant in Montreal, it's not your fancy dinner place, but a really good tasty seafood restaurant where you choose you meal by weight, really reasonable prices.
So delicious! Fresh fried fish & fries & calamari OMG. My only complaint is it can get a bit noisy when busy, but the food is so good!!!
