About us

PIEL CANELA A BRUNCH IN MONTREAL

“Canela” is the color of our skin, a living heritage of our land.

Our skin carries the customs, roots, and traditions that shape our identity. It is the sparkle of the stars that guided us north, the hidden abundance of our mountains, and the endless blue of the sea that rocked us in childhood.

Piel Canela is more than just a Latin restaurant in Montreal, it’s an invitation to travel through culture and flavor from the heart of the Plateau Mont-Royal, on vibrant Saint-Denis Street. Our menu highlights authentic tastes: from freshly prepared ceviche to chilaquiles as flavorful as in Mexico, from colorful and creative cocktails to reinvented crêpes for brunch.

We celebrate togetherness with lunches designed for families, groups of friends, and even a special menu for children. In summer, our sunny terrace becomes a must-visit spot to share bottomless mimosas, vibrant dishes, and generous smiles.

At Piel Canela, every detail is crafted to make your moments unique: warm service, a musical atmosphere inspired by the songs of our land, and a menu that blends authenticity with creativity. Come and discover why our address has become one of Montreal’s favorite brunch destinations.

Here, food is both a celebration and a bridge between cultures.

It is the warmth of the South, served with love in the heart of the Plateau Mont-Royal!

The food & drinks were very good. The only issue is that they rush you to finish & leave. We arrived at 12:45, & by around 2:00 pm we were already being shown the door. We also noticed a strong urine smell in the bathroom. It wasn't dirty, but the smell was quite unpleasant.

The food was good, although the menu felt a bit limited & a bit overpriced for the size of the food. We were celebrating my husband's birthday, & I know they offer a small cake for special occasions. However, when I asked, the waitress said they didn't have anything available. While I understand this isn't mandatory, it's a thoughtful gesture that makes a difference for customers. It felt a bit disappointing that they didn't offer an alternative or try to make the occasion feel special. It felt cheap on them.

Assiettes extraordinaires, tout comme le service de l'excellente Claire! Merci de nous avoir fait voyager & d'avoir si bien répondu à nos besoins. Les portions sont généreuses & délicieuses!

… no. honestly, yeah the presentation is super aesthetically pleasing & i suppose'instagramable' < hate that phrase but the food itself? could barely stomach it. it could be that the cuisine doesn't agree with me. i personally ordered the shakshouka & my god, it was stuffed with onions to an excessive amount. like it should've been called onion stew. the flavors were way too strong, like they wanted to do too much all at once. the drink was nauseatingly sweet (a coconut blend) & what my friends ordered was also tooth rotting sweet.

the service was quite nice & the ambience was… okay? however i would not be coming back. you'd have to pay me at least $300 to come back here. even then i wouldn't touch the food esp considering how much we paid.

It's such a treasure of a place. They really blend the Hispanic cuisine with the brunch culture in a way that makes you wonder, how?

Imagine you live your life thinking you've seen all the colour there is & finding out you haven't. That's what eating here is like.

The taste is phenomenal. Me & my bro came here for brunch & mind you, we hit the gym, so proteins & calories are vital. & this place hit all that for us while making it delicious. & we were stuffed.

We stared into the abyss for a while just to process what just happened. That's how good it was.

Our server Jessica was sweet & kind & helped us learn the history behind each food & made recommendations personalized to our preference.

This is a place I'm bringing all my friends visiting from u.s. because it's about time they understand how good the immigrants make our life here.

The service was very good & the ambiance too, however the food wasn't bad yet nothing special, yes, the ideas are there but the taste is forgettable. The best was Carlota's cemita bread, I never thought I was going to find that out of Puebla, MX... the inside of the'cemita quebecoise' was just ok. The drinks are way better than the boring food. Being an association with'Barranco' I thought the food was going to be better, I wouldn't go back not because the place is bad yet there is nothing special about it either, c'est moyen.

Perfectly balanced shakshouka (it's quite a generous portion, so good to share) & wonderful service. Thank you Claire!

Edit: Came back & had the pain doré des tropiques to share & it was absolutely delicious. The best service by Eleonore!!!

Absolutely loved this place! The staff is amazing, & the food was so yummy & comforting. If I could recommend one food item, I would recommend the chilaquiles, & for a coffee order, I would recommend the latte that comes with the mexican spices (& bonus tip- replace the regular milk with coconut milk).

It is definitely on the pricier end, the drinks were 8$ & the food was 25-26$, but I think it was worth it, considering the quality/taste of the food, the good customer service & the great vibe (loved the spanish music they had on, & the decor)!

I'm definitely going back again! :)

Unique spot for brunch. We took some time to choose between several enticing options. We were happy with our food choices, & had a nice experience.

The food is great. I loved the Mexican fusion idea. My issue was with the staff, they were extremely rude & pretty much kicked us out even though we had a reservation, nobody was coming in & there were plenty empty tables. The waitress also removed several of our plates & cups when we were actively eating or drinking from them. Honestly this was unacceptable, I completely understand the concept of leaving when there is a line waiting but this was completely uncalled for. We also stayed there for a bit over an hour so it is not like we were camping there either. For the price I would expect a way better service. Anyhow, first time & last time for sure

The best food I've had in Montreal in a very long time!!!!

Piel Canela's dishes are so creative & bursting with flavour. To eat, we tried Las Papas Benditas & the Pain Doré des Tropiques, both of which were sensational both in taste & presentation. For drinks, we had the Batido Horchata & the Pizca de Coco, which were generous in size for the price!

Besides the meal itself, the space was beautifully decorated, the music was nice but not too loud, & the servers were all so friendly & welcoming!

Piel Canela is not cheap, but I cannot recommend it enough for the occasional treat. Truly one of the best spots in Montreal!

La neta que si vale la pena ir… un BUEN SERVICIO! Jessica 10/10!
La comida estuvo muy rica… se ve que hay chef, no solo es comida rápida o como suele haber, esta comida nos hizo recordar México a lo BIEN! 👍🏼

Bebidas muy ricas! Buen sabor y presentación 10/10

Pedimos chilaquiles, cemita, sopa, postre.

Super para ir SOLO! En PAREJA O En FAMILIA! ❤?
