“Canela” is the color of our skin, a living heritage of our land.
Our skin carries the customs, roots, and traditions that shape our identity. It is the sparkle of the stars that guided us north, the hidden abundance of our mountains, and the endless blue of the sea that rocked us in childhood.
Piel Canela is more than just a Latin restaurant in Montreal, it’s an invitation to travel through culture and flavor from the heart of the Plateau Mont-Royal, on vibrant Saint-Denis Street. Our menu highlights authentic tastes: from freshly prepared ceviche to chilaquiles as flavorful as in Mexico, from colorful and creative cocktails to reinvented crêpes for brunch.
We celebrate togetherness with lunches designed for families, groups of friends, and even a special menu for children. In summer, our sunny terrace becomes a must-visit spot to share bottomless mimosas, vibrant dishes, and generous smiles.
At Piel Canela, every detail is crafted to make your moments unique: warm service, a musical atmosphere inspired by the songs of our land, and a menu that blends authenticity with creativity. Come and discover why our address has become one of Montreal’s favorite brunch destinations.
Here, food is both a celebration and a bridge between cultures.
It is the warmth of the South, served with love in the heart of the Plateau Mont-Royal!

Many guests describe Piel Canela as a vibrant brunch spot where inventive Mexican inspired dishes meet a lively atmosphere, with generous portions and friendly, attentive service. The menu showcases bold flavors and thoughtful pairings from chilaquiles and tropical pain doré to cafe de olla and horchata, while the terrace and cozy interiors create a welcoming setting for gatherings. Overall, the experience blends delicious food, colorful decor and music that elevate the brunch, making Piel Canela a standout choice in the city.
We were very lucky to get two seats at the bar right after walking in, because the wait time is usually pretty long, so I'd definitely recommend making a reservation beforehand. Normally I don't like sitting at the bar, but it actually turned out to be a great experience & we had the waiter's attention the whole time.
The ambiance & decor are very cozy & quite different from the usual brunch spots in town.
The menu is also unique & not your typical brunch menu, so you might want some recommendations from the waiter depending on your taste. I was looking for something sweet & sour, so I ordered the POLLITO & WAFFLES, & it was really delicious. The chicken was crispy, served with tasty veggies & sauce over the waffle. The portions were also generous & very filling.
Also, the menu on Google Maps seems to be outdated.
For coffee, I ordered the CAFE DE LA OLLA. It tasted really good, although it was a bit too sweet for my taste.
My friend ordered TESORO ESCONDIDO for drink & TOSTADA DEL PACIFICO, a toasted brioche with shrimp salad, which was really tasty.

C'était la première fois dans ce brunch. Wow, magnifique! Le service impecc, la bouffe était ouffffff c'est fou, délicieux ! L'ambiance détendu avec bonne musique. Je recommande fortement !
The service was great, & the waitress was very nice. I had the shakshouka, & I found it a bit average - it needed more flavor, & the eggs were overcooked. However, the bread was good, & I would recommend any of their signature drinks; they were excellent!
Absolutely loved this place! The staff is amazing, & the food was so yummy & comforting. If I could recommend one food item, I would recommend the chilaquiles, & for a coffee order, I would recommend the latte that comes with the mexican spices (& bonus tip- replace the regular milk with coconut milk).
It is definitely on the pricier end, the drinks were 8$ & the food was 25-26$, but I think it was worth it, considering the quality/taste of the food, the good customer service & the great vibe (loved the spanish music they had on, & the decor)!
I'm definitely going back again! :)

The best food I've had in Montreal in a very long time!!!!
Piel Canela's dishes are so creative & bursting with flavour. To eat, we tried Las Papas Benditas & the Pain Doré des Tropiques, both of which were sensational both in taste & presentation. For drinks, we had the Batido Horchata & the Pizca de Coco, which were generous in size for the price!
Besides the meal itself, the space was beautifully decorated, the music was nice but not too loud, & the servers were all so friendly & welcoming!
Piel Canela is not cheap, but I cannot recommend it enough for the occasional treat. Truly one of the best spots in Montreal!
Positives:
- Food was excellent. Highly recommend the tropical french toast & chilaquiles.
- The girl serving us was very attentive & friendly. We sat at the bar near the entrance door & it was comfortable, even with people lined up not far from us. Not too cold either.
- Even though it was very busy, it wasn't too loud & we could hear each other.
Negative:
- The space to hang up your coat is imo too close to the entrance where people are waiting in line. It made it uncomfortable to go grab your coat or to be waiting in line while people grabbed their coat. The hostesses seemed overwhelmed by the quantity of people walking in & weren't very friendly.
Overall 4/5. It was worth it & we would definitely go again :)
Bien dommage.
Disappointing brunch experience. Atmospher was ok if you like it noisy with staff running around. Cold waitress who kept forgetting us with minimum communication skills. We all had different food, some did not finish it & others were ok. The Chilaquiles piel canela was ok. We would not recommend the Shakshouka though.

It was an amazing experience. I had such good company due to the waitress, Éleonore. She made sure that we enjoyed our time & we did. Totally recommend for some time with friend or a cute fancy date.
⭐?⭐?⭐?⭐?⭐?
Absolutely delicious & amazing Mexican food! Every dish was full of flavor, fresh, & absolutely delicious! This is one of those places you keep thinking about after you leave. Because it does taste like true Mexican food.
On top of that, our waitress Jessica was truly incredible, amazing, super mega kind, attentive, & made the whole experience even better. Her positive energy & care really stood out.
We had such a great time & can't wait to come back. Highly recommend!✨
The food was great! We loved the hot drinks with the cold weather outside, we wanted caffeine free & they delivered. The pistachio drink was amazing. Also loved the food & presentation. The flavors were very developed. Our server was also very kind despite being busy & pulled in various directions. Only complaint would be a bit slower service than expected. I would recommend & return!

Ana has been amazing to us all brunch. Always smiling, quick & organized. I will definitely come back & recommend to others just for Ana. She works Saturdays & Sunday so if you want a fast paced waitress who is very nice request her!!
Clare provided exceptional service. The restaurant is not only beautiful but has wonderful food & drinks. Definitely recommend stopping by for all of the things!
