The food isn't bad, a couple things could definitely be worked on. I read in other reviews that the scones are dry which is true. I find they were small & hard & crumbled apart which was disappointing. Other items seemed to have been prepared a while prior to serving it.
We ordered the classic tea. The food was yummy. We especially enjoyed the scones. A great place to celebrate a birthday.
Was looking forward to trying this but the food was sooooo disappointing.
Dry scones, synthetic sweet desserts, & the savory items on the bottom of the tower were just not good.
Paparmane is such a cute spot in Old Montreal for afternoon tea. The decor is super on-theme & cozy. It's the perfect for a girls' day out, mother's day, birthday. You get a set menu with savoury bites on the bottom tier, two scones in the middle, & desserts on top. The menu changes from time to time, but everything is always delicious. They also have a great selection of teas. It's from the same team behind some of my fave brunch spots (Régine & Janine) so no surprise it's a hit!
Expect to pay about $60/person for the regular high tea, before taxes & tip!
Pros
-beautiful decor
-lots of menu options for dietary needs
-relaxing environment
-reasonable pricing for afternoon tea
Room for improvement
-the food has a lot of room for improvements. The scones are too dry. The dessert was decent. The strawberry one was not very good.
The savory portion needs the most work. The brie cheese & bread was very
The herbal teas were not very good. Tried two versions & they were both very sour.
Amazing unique experience! Great selection of teas & great scones & sandwiches. The pastries are delicious & really creative in terms of presentation
This place was super cute & incredibly aesthetic. The atmosphere was probably the best I've ever experienced in a restaurant-everywhere you looked, there was something fascinating, whether it was a piece of artwork or a unique decoration. It really added to the ambiance. The service was good. Food Review: I want to go into detail about everything I tried & rate each dish: Grilled Cheese - 2/5 Pretty boring-nothing special. I didn't like the flavor or the bread (which had pistachios & walnuts). It just wasn't good. I could easily make a better one at home. Shepherd's Pie - 4/5 It was amazing! The only thing I would change is adding some corn for a bit of freshness, since there was a lot of meat & it felt really dense. Ideally, it would have equal layers of corn, mashed potatoes, & beef. Deviled Egg - N/A I don't like eggs like that, so I can't really judge it. But I did like the Parmesan crisp on top. BLT Chicken Sandwich - 2/5 Super average. It lacked flavor-literally just tasted like chicken, lettuce, mayo, & mustard on bread. I could make this in two minutes at home. If I'm paying $54 for a meal, I want something more intricate, something that excites my taste buds. Potato Artichoke Luca with Salmon Mousse - 5/5 This was hands down my favorite of all the savory items. I'm not even a fan of salmon or fish in general, but it was amazing. I would eat 100 of these. Absolutely a 10/10. Scones & Desserts: Scones - 3/5 A little dry. I've had better scones that I made at home or from places like Milk. They needed more moisture. The jam, however, was incredible-I literally finished it with a spoon. The cream wasn't my thing, but that's just personal preference. Macaron - 2/5 This one was disappointing. I thought it was raspberry white chocolate (which is a great flavor combo), but it tasted like mint. The texture was good, though. Pistachio Cake - 1/5 Not for me. I don't like almond fondant or almond paste, & the pistachio flavor just wasn't it. Chocolate Mousse - 1/5 Did not like it at all. The popcorn on top also felt random & unnecessary. Overall Experience: Despite some of the food being hit or miss, I'm really happy I went. The experience was worth it-it was a nice way to spend a cute girls' brunch. I also appreciated the little touches, like them taking your coat when you arrive. Plus, the fact that it was so busy made me feel like I had chosen a great spot-clearly, everyone wants to come here!
My friends & I celebrated my birthday at Paparmane, & it was such a magical experience! The beautiful rococo decor set the perfect atmosphere, & the tea selection was absolutely incredible - so many unique & flavorful blends to choose from. The tiered platters were a highlight for all of us, with delicious scones, sandwiches, & pastries that we couldn't get enough of. The staff were so welcoming & made the day even more special. We loved every moment & can't wait to be back for another unforgettable afternoon
