I stopped by Ol' Sweet this past July with my friend Hady after a picnic in Parc La Fontaine, & it was the perfect sweet detour. This bakery is all about Hungarian chimney cakes (kürt?skalács), always baked fresh to order so you get that golden caramelized crust & soft fluffy inside.
Walking in felt cozy & nostalgic, with old school music like La Vie en Rose playing & David, the owner, greeting us with such warmth. He told us Ol' Sweet has been open for four years, though before that they built their name at festivals & events around the city.
We went classic with our order & loved how each one is made freshly in front of you & doesn't need much topping to shine. The menu also has fun spreads, fruit, or ice cream for anyone who wants add a little extra pizazz .
Bonus: when there is enough extra dough it's put on the Too Good To Go app, which makes grabbing a treat at the end of the day both delicious & eco-friendly.
Not a collab, just a happy foodie sharing a Montréal gem.
✨ I spotlight my favorite local finds on TikTok @foxy.appetite & IG @foxyappetite. Come hang out!
Nous avons trouvé malheureusement trop cuit & le Nesquik pas assez présent en goût comparer à d'autres endroits que nous avons fait. La citronade est très bonne & l'accueil agréable.
Their signature pastry is amazing 😍
Totally recommended.
I've tried the pistachio one.
I wish I could post a picture but we ate it all so quickly! Fresh & delicious, worth the wait, it's a must if you're visiting Montreal!
It's not terrible, just way sweeter than I thought. If you love super sweet stuff, you'd probably like it.
There you can find Hungarian type chimney cake. The only place in Montreal. It is worth a try.
Super fun idea with different options for toppings, sauces & ice cream to pair with the pastry. Expect about a ten minute wait if you did not place an order online beforehand. I got a nesquik one that was quite good but I definitely would want to come back to try different options.
