Review Summary

Oh Dumplings is widely recognized for its authentic, handmade dumplings and generous portion sizes that offer excellent value. Many patrons appreciate the fresh, flavorful menu and the casual, bustling atmosphere of the restaurant, frequently highlighting the pork, cabbage, and coriander varieties as standout choices. While the food consistently earns praise for its taste and quality, experiences with service and cleanliness can be inconsistent, ranging from exceptionally friendly and efficient to occasional delays and unprofessional behavior. Despite varying opinions on the speed of service and the specific preparation of certain side dishes, most guests find the experience satisfying and are eager to return for the reliably delicious and affordably priced comfort food.

Have visited this restaurant often, came again after couple years, average food! The lady demanded & fought with me over tips, tipping is optional not mandatory & wanted more than 10% for serving 1 dish?

In the end almost made me pay 15% I held my ground on 10%, never ever have I been forced to this end very disappointing experience

Completely unacceptable experience that crossed a line, especially after being long-time customers.

We were a group of six & were already planning to tip appropriately. Instead, the employee spoke to us rudely, pressured us for a tip, & effectively forced one, doing so with a hostile & dismissive attitude. What made this far worse was that she did this in a way that publicly embarrassed my partner, in front of our entire table & other customers. That is not just poor service-it is humiliating & deeply unprofessional.

No customer should ever be put in a position where they feel shamed, pressured, or singled out over a tip. Tipping is voluntary. Turning it into a confrontation & embarrassing someone at the table is unacceptable under any circumstance.

The food itself was fine, but none of that matters when the service makes people feel uncomfortable & disrespected. The atmosphere was completely ruined, & the experience left us upset rather than satisfied.

For management: this is a serious issue. Staff behavior like this drives customers away immediately & damages your reputation far more than a bad dish ever could. We were loyal clients for a long time, & this single interaction was enough to ensure we will not be returning.

Future customers should be aware that this is how situations can be handled here.

UPDATE (01/13/2026)
I'm not removing my first-time review, this update is just me giving this place another chance, & this time I came with my family.

I'll be completely honest: this visit was much better. We were all satisfied & full, & I finally got to try their new special dumplings. Hot, very tasty, & perfect for the gloomy winter weather. There was almost no wait, & the food came out within just a few minutes.

Unfortunately, my family didn't get to try their fried rice because the chef who makes it was on break/vacation. But overall, my family was happy & satisfied, & for that reason I'm increasing my star rating.

Definitely a better experience this time around!

(First Review / First Experience) ★★★☆☆
We decided to try Oh Dumplings in Chinatown, but unfortunately, the experience was disappointing.
First thing to point out the service was very slow. We took into consideration that there were other people at the restaurant, but the delays were still hard to justify. Our order included Beef & Coriander Dumplings, Fish & Coriander Dumplings, General Tao Chicken, Chicken Noodles, Vegetable Fried Rice, & Wonton Soup.

The dumplings came out after about 15-20 minutes, followed by the General Tao shortly after. But then, we waited around 40-45 minutes for the rest of our food. By the time the noodles & fried rice arrived, we had already finished the dumplings & General Tao, sitting at an empty table for almost an hour just waiting for the rest. At that point, we honestly lost our appetite.

The food itself is okay nothing mind-blowing but decent. The dumplings were flavorful, especially with the coriander touch. The General Tao was on the sweeter side, which may not be for everyone. The fried rice & noodles were fine, but after waiting so long, we didn't really enjoy them as much as we could have.

Overall if you have patience & time to spare, the food is passable, but nothing about the taste justifies that long of a wait. We likely won't be returning anytime soon unless they improve the service speed.

Menu is limited, very'white' Chinese food. When we went, most people in there are in fact no Chinese. Food we did end up getting was good but I wouldn't go there again just because it's not what I want out of the menu.

We came here as a family of 6 on vacation & were seated immediately. I was overwhelmed with all the yummy options so we decided to order a bunch of dishes & all share them. This was the best restaurant we experienced in Montreal. The service was amazing & the food was some of the best Asian food I have had. We all cleaned the plates & left extremely satisfied. We had 4 different kinds of dumplings, fried rice & the noodles. (Lamb, beef with chive & another beef mixed with herbs. As well as pork chive.) 10/10 recommend.
