Review Summary

New Verdun Restaurant is a neighborhood staple with a broad menu, generous portions, and many dishes offering good value and solid flavor in a welcoming atmosphere; reviews note clean spaces and friendly staff, strong takeout and delivery options, and a mix of quick service and occasional delivery delays that were resolved promptly, while some diners point to occasional inconsistencies in Chinese dishes and higher prices, but overall the restaurant remains praised for variety, quality, and a dependable, comfortable dining experience.

Nouveau Verdun transcends Fusion. It incorporates classic Montreal casse-croûte cuisine, Italian, Greek, & Canadian-Chinese cuisines. The food we tried was overall solid, nothing mind-blowing, but taste alone isn't the whole story.

When Montrealers ponder what food best represents the cuisine of our dear City, poutine, bagels, & smoked meat sandwiches usually come to mind. I would like to add Greek & Canadian-Chinese to that list.

Make no mistake: this isn't authentic Chinese cuisine, despite what some reviews suggest. However, dishes like chop suey & Chinese macaroni have their own charm, & actually originated from immigrants as a way to make'Chinese-ish' food accessible to Western palates.

These dishes have an amazing history & reflect the real story of how modern Montreal came to be : diverse, multicultural, shaped by the perseverance, grit, sacrifice & entrepreneurialism of immigrants. You won't find authentic Greek, Italian, or Chinese here, but if you're looking for something authentically Montreal, Nouveau Verdun is worth visiting.

Always great to come back here when visiting Montreal. Arguably still in my top 3 of poutines in Montreal. Steak & pepperoni sub is my go to supper or lunch. Never disappointed coming here. Service was stellar as well.

I've been a patron of this restaurant for years. I've lived in Verdun all of my life. I remember going there as a child, going to hang out there as a teenager, ordering out when I lived further away... But the service & quality have only gone down through the years & with my latest experience I've decided that I'm not going back or ordering from them again.

The waitress was petulant, arrogant & generally unhelpful. The "new" menu was reduced to remove as much options as they could (for example, they only have one size of poutine while in restaurant, while it's possible to have different formats on take-out or delivery. It's no longer possible to have a pitcher of soda. It was a whole issue to split a Chinese combo between two people). A friend asked if he could have his meal in a take-out container because he'd have to run after having a bite or two but she told him that it was impossible. I asked for clarifications: it was possible for him to have it in a take-out container, but if he chose to take it that way he was forbidden to eat there. Flippantly, she told us that if we weren't happy we could leave or talk to the owner (while I understand she might not have the executive power to satisfy our demands, there is such a thing as customer service). All this & in the end, the quality of our food was poor. Not worth the expense at all.

Needless to say, we are not going back. At this point, you'd be happier going to McDonalds.
