About

Montreal Poutine delivers an authentic interpretation of Quebec culinary traditions through a focused menu centered on fresh ingredients. Hand-cut potatoes undergo precise frying to achieve an ideal golden texture, providing a structural base for thick, savory gravy. The inclusion of squeaky, high-quality cheese curds ensures the essential pull and richness expected by local enthusiasts. Smoked meat offerings feature slow-cured beef brisket sliced thin to preserve tenderness and seasoning intensity. This establishment prioritizes the classic composition of these staple dishes, emphasizing proper ratios of potato to sauce and cheese. Patrons encounter a straightforward environment where the engineering of the poutine remains the primary technical objective. Every preparation adheres to established regional standards, prioritizing ingredient integrity over unnecessary culinary embellishment or complex plating techniques throughout the diverse selection of menu variants.

Review Summary

Montreal Poutine is widely recognized for its generous portions and high-quality comfort food, particularly its signature poutine topped with fresh cheese curds and flavorful gravy. Many visitors appreciate the welcoming atmosphere, the historic building's charm, and the beautiful outdoor courtyard, which serves as an ideal setting for enjoying a meal in the heart of the city. While the staff frequently receives praise for being friendly, efficient, and accommodating to large groups, the experience is occasionally tempered by issues such as the absence of complimentary tap water, concerns regarding the pricing of bottled water, and occasional lapses in service speed or seating comfort. Overall, it remains a popular destination for those seeking a quintessential Montreal dining experience.

Really terrific courtyard with good cocktails & excellent poutine. Try the poulet frit.

Without a doubt, the best poutine in the Old Port. The fries are never soft. My favorite is the Italian Poutine, which comes with ground beef on top & is delicious. They don't serve tap water there because the pipes are old, so take advantage & order another drink. If you go inside, upstairs, you have a beautiful view of Rue St. Paul. However, the stairs are old & the steps are short. I don't recommend it for people with mobility issues. The downstairs is nice & quite pleasant, but I don't know if it's open in the winter. I've only been there in the summer (it was wonderful). The poutines are one of the best in the area (around $17.50). I recommend it!

Extremely unpleasant experience. I came here with 3 friends & we were seated at a small table. My friend & I are very tall people 6foot & 6foot 3 & were extremely uncomfortable at the table. We all felt very crammed like we couldn't move. We end up moving to a table next to ours with more space. Later the hostess comes & informs us we can't move tables- mind you THERE ARE MULTIPLE FREE TABLES. I tell her that we can barely fit at that table & it's ruining our experience & she said that tables with more seats need to be left if a bigger group of people come. I'd understand if the restaurant was slammed but I don't think a surge of people were coming & it's also a poutine establishment u don't spend more than an hour there anyways. We were then moved to a high top where the air conditioning was dripping on me (it was hot & I know it's out of there control but u probably shouldn't have a table there then) & also our table was so dirty - wasn't wiped down at all. It was disgusting. The poutine here is good but there are equally good places on every corner of Montreal. Also as time went on there were more tables available & we could've comfortable sat at a bigger table with no issues lol

Good Poutine for the price! One of the best in town I've heard. But one interesting fact is that is good for the price & quality. Two people can easily have it.

As they don't have much vegetarian options, we tried regular poutine & onion poutine. Worth trying. Amazing place with vintage vibe.

We've been trying different poutines across Montreal & Quebec City, so we opted to try this one, sitting in the heart of Old Montreal city. We chose to sit indoors instead of the patio as the sun was heavy & hot that day. We ordered one ($15.99) to share with two drinks. A peach juice & a blue raspberry slushie. ($35 taxes included) The poutine was meh average, nothing special & not at all a show stopper to write home about. The gravy tasted the same as Harvey's poutine. Yes, I'm not proud that I'm comparing to Harvey's gravy but Yes, I'm dead serious! The peach juice was nice & refreshing, but the slushie had a DEAD BEE crushed with the ice!! It was absolutely disgusting to find AFTER my guest finished her drink!! All they did was remove the drink from the bill & apologized. The wooden tables & chairs & dining space in the upstairs dinette was cozy & nice bright from the sun.

Poutine lacked cheese & was quite plain. I like food with some flavours that make it interesting. A little surprised that you cannot get simple tap water instead are required to buy a $4 water. For a place that serves alcohol that is not in line with the liquor codes. Service was slow & took forever to get the bill.
