This old school joint has been a Montreal institution since 1912. After getting no sleep trying to make a 7 AM flight & siteseeing all day I was starving. The first thing I ate in Montreal was their delicious poutine. Maybe it was because I was tired & starving but that was one of the best things I've ever eaten. Perfectly cooked fries over savory brown gravy topped with squeaky cheese, it was heavenly. I wish I could say the same about the hot dogs. Everything else was good except the dog itself. They tasted like Oscar Meyer dogs frankly so I would avoid them. Service was quick & there's ample seating. This is a cash only establishment so hit up the ATM before you come.
Stopped in for some quality poutine & it didn't disappoint in that regard. The ambiance is definitely old-school - as unfancy as it gets on a decidedly unfancy block. Cash only. Probably jumps later in the evening after drinking time, but during the afternoon felt a bit depressing.

I has been coming to Montreal Pool room since i am 18 years old. Now i am 59 years old & the hot dog & fries has been the same throughout the years.

If ya hafta ask....ya don't know....BUT YOU SHOULD!!!!! This is one of the ULTIMATE MONTREAL ICONS !!! Opened in 1912 in the former'red light district' (although still some entertainment across the street...) & FAMOUS for its STIMMY - FRITES (bien cuire SVP !!) & Orange ...steamed hot dog (order at least two), French fries & Orange Crush.
Open 10:30 a.m. to 4 a.m......if you don't eat here you REALLY have NOT visited Montreal!!!! & by the way....there are NO POOL TABLES.....
Montréal pool room est une institution & je suis content d'y avoir été. C'est définitivement le meilleur steamé que j'ai mangé depuis longtemps & la poutine est solide également. C'est le fun de voir les photos historiques/cadre sur les murs aussi dont un chandail de Maurice Richard. Le seul bémol pour moi est que c'est argent comptant seulement. C'est une aberration en 2026 de ne pas accepter aucune carte en plein centre ville de Montréal.

Classic Montréal eatery with Steamés, poutine, burgers. Great vibes, great aesthetic. A real piece of history. Stick with the all dressed, you won't regret it.
Great poutine in a great establishment. The gravy is super flavourful & the fries are crispy & delicious. This restaurant has a bunch of history & proudly displays it on the walls, it's not everyday you get poutine from a 100 year old restaurant. Overall, a great poutine for anyone searching for an authentic poutine.
