Modavie is a timeless place that brings us back to our roots, where ladies & gents gather and eat in a lively atmosphere caused by great conversation, live music and the wooden scents of a vintage room. Born in 1997, it quickly became popular among locals & visitors, and is now considered a Montreal institution.
Treat yourself to refined French fare in an antique & dimmed corner locale spawning two floors. From the classic beef tartare, to tasty sweetbread, to the famous ratatouille, your cravings will be easily satiated.

The marrow & escargot for starters were great! & we shared the filet mignon. The meat came out perfect medium rare & hot. The mashed potatoes & veg unfortunately were lukewarm warm cause they were finished much earlier than the meat. I would've mentioned it but our server didn't come to check other than the 10 seconds after we first got our meal from a different host. Having a hot dinner altogether should be a must when you're paying the costs on the menu. It's not normal for me not to say anything, especially when my food is on the cold side. Overall good experience, & the jazz band made it exceptional.View more

I didn't have much time, the potatoes in the poutine were ordinary but lamb was good , the service was inadequate, the dessert was above averageView more
This place was a nice vibe. The services are friendly. I wasn't that hungry, so I ended up just ordering an apple pie dessert. It was amazing. My friend got the poutine, which I was able to try. I'm not really a poutine person, but it was seasoned very nicely, & the gravy was excellent.View more
Best French onion soup & duck dish I've ever had! It was amazing. The jazz was also really good. Our service was really on top of it but he was a little rude & made a comment about only ordering one appetizer. Otherwise though we highly recommend the place. The mousse was the best dessertView more
Great atmosphere, music, service & food! I have celiac disease & the servers were all very attentive & explained all the gluten free options. They offer GF pasta & can make most of their dishes gluten free! Overall modavie had a great vibe & is right in the heart of old montreal for the perfect dinner spot.View more
Excellent ambience with live jazz music & food was bit expensive & taste was average. Enjoyed the vibe!View more
A wonderful restaurant. Beautiful ambience, speedy service, & delicious food. A real highlight of our trip to Montreal. & for a reasonable price too!

Live music, perfect lamb, excellent cream brûlée & fantastic service.View more
We were two people. Had two bottles of red wine & four food items in the dinner including 12 oysters/1 salad/1 French onion soup/1 steak frites, & the total came to $240 with taxes & plus 18% tip was added/paid. (Just two wine bottles were of $120 plus tax). It was nice speaking with Daniel, the bar tender. Food was fresh. It was an alright experience.View more
Nice atmosphere, included live music. The drinks were delicious. The bone marrow was unimpressive. The French onion soup was terrific!!! Mushroom risotto has WAY to much cheese sauce compared to the rice. The rice was swimming in the cheese sauce. I would try again.View more
One of my favourite restaurants in Montreal. It never disappoints. Highly recommend the escargot & the crème brûlée!View more
I really chose this place because they offered live music which didn't disappoint. You really enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant. The food was delicious. We had the escargot since we wanted to have a French Canadian food experience. The truffle fries were delicious. I also had the rack of lamb, which was good. The drinks were also really good, but we are too full to have dessert which I guess I'll have to come back for at some point when I'm in Montreal again. The staff were absolutely lovely & it was just an overall great evening.View more
