Modavie is a timeless place that brings us back to our roots, where ladies & gents gather and eat in a lively atmosphere caused by great conversation, live music and the wooden scents of a vintage room. Born in 1997, it quickly became popular among locals & visitors, and is now considered a Montreal institution.
Treat yourself to refined French fare in an antique & dimmed corner locale spawning two floors. From the classic beef tartare, to tasty sweetbread, to the famous ratatouille, your cravings will be easily satiated.

Reservation highly recommended. It's a popular restaurant in Montreal old town & they have live music every night. However we were a little disappointed to find that it was not jazz/blues music on the day of our visit. Food is not tasty but portions are large. Northing to complain nor be impressed.View more
We booked a last minute reservation, & were very glad we did. There was lovely live music in the next room. The atmosphere was festive, with nice moody lighting, a gorgeous old building & great bistro-type decor. There are hundreds of wine choices & the server was knowledgable about all the wines we asked about. I had the risotto, & my husband had an off-menu steak. We had tuna tartare as an appetizer. We were so impressed with the service (see the photo of him posing) & the food, & with the beautiful ambiance. Highly recommended!View more
A great night out for you & your partner. Definitely leave a note on your reservations to sit near the live music on either 1st or 2nd floor. The food was good, however, for the price it's a little too expensive, but I guess you're paying for the experience of the live jazz as well. My partner & I ordered the steak & frites, & the duck confit. I would recommend both dishes if you're having a hard time choosing a meal. The in-house cocktail selection was great, especially the'blood orange squeeze' &'pineapple express', which I highly recommend.View more
Food & service were both excellent! Our server was wonderful & she was very helpful with suggestions. We would definitely go back. Live music is also a nice touch!View more
Great place for French food & live music. The rack of lamb was some of the best I've had at a restaurant & our server was very helpful on helping us pick out our wine, appetizer & desserts. Will be back!View more

We had an amazing meal at Modavie. Our server, George, gave us great suggestions from the wine to main dishes to desserts. Everything was on point. He was very attentive & friendly. Go for the lamb chops. They are to die for! My son has the mussels & my husband had the duck- both superb. In addition, there's live music which gives the experience a nice touch. We wanted to have a great French meal & Modavie did not disappoint. ❤️❤️❤️View more

Food & drinks were great, just the live music was a little loud.View more
Highly recommend Modavie - amazing service, & great ambiance in old Montreal. I ordered the mussels & fries, & they were delicious! I also saw in the side of the restaurant with live music, & it was lovely. Highly recommend checking this place out if you're looking for French cuisine in Montreal!View more
Hello, I was at your restaurant last evening & what an amazing experience because of Sal. We were going to be seating at a table but he said no sit at the bar & he didn't disappoint us. He had great drink suggestions as well as food suggestions. Great service, amazing food & the ambiance was cool. Live music 🎶 made it fun to get up & dance 💃 Thank you. LaurieView more
Amazing food & really love the decor, there's also live music Friday evening. Great service & friendly staff, food came relatively quick. My favourite is the lamb chop & mushroom risotto!View more
The staff & service were excellent. Our waitress was super knowledgeable & helpful with a gluten allergy in our group. We had great cocktails, appetizers, & meals all around. Enjoyed the live music upstairs, was a good volume to still enjoy dinner.View more
the live music is fun, the service is personable which makes you feel welcomed & comfortable. The food didn't disappoint either, they make a great rack of lamb.View more
Went here for dinner on a Sunday eve. Reservations recommended. Staff were all very friendly, with prompt service. The atmosphere was nice, with live music that starts later in evening. Food was good! Good portion, nice flavouring & présentation that you don't get too often. We had the octopus (good stuff), mussels +fries (good portion), catch of the day (nicely done walleye that eve). Would return again to try the other menu offerings.View more
Lorenzo's excellent service turned a great brunch into a phenomenal experience to be remembered. I recommend the duck waffles or the braised lamb. The live music is enjoyable & the ambience is very rustic yet cozy. Thank you again to Lorenzo & the team who took care of us today.View more
Food is great, service great, live music great 👍🏻View more
Good service & food was good. The live music was bit too loud we couldn't hear each other others around the table.View more
Came here for dinner expecting a great experience as per previous reviews but was left disappointed. Food was pretty bland & could absolutely use more flavour. Atmosphere was nice, the place is pretty, & the live music was a lovely touch. Service was fine, nothing outstanding. Seats are not comfortable & the tables are quote smallView more
We had a great time on a Saturday night with live music & flavorful food! George took care of us & helped us out with some really good recommendations. Would highly recommend!View more
Nestled in the heart of Old Port, Modavie stands out as a culinary beacon, even if you have to navigate through some construction to get there. The diverse menu caters to a variety of tastes, ensuring there's something for everyone. I had the pleasure of trying the Lamb Cavatelli, & it was a delightful fusion of tender lamb & perfectly cooked pasta that danced on my palate. The live music added an extra layer of charm to the experience, enhancing the already cozy ambiance. It's not just about the food at Modavie; it's about the entire experience. The service was impeccable - attentive & timely, without being intrusive. It's clear that Modavie values its customers & understands the essence of hospitality. Whether you're a local or just passing through, Modavie is a must-visit spot in Montreal's Old Port. Don't let a little construction keep you from this fantastic dining experience! :PView more
One of our favorite places in Montreal & some of the best food hands down. We went twice & both times had the lamb pasta because it was THAT good - we also had the steak frites, French onion soup, Caesar salad, crème brûlée, & seasonal sorbet - all excellent as well & the drinks were very good. Very cute atmosphere with live music at night. Staff were so friendly & welcoming - we went to maybe 12-15 restaurants throughout our trip & none came close to Modavie.View more
Fantastic. One of'many' great places to eat in Old Montreal. Having said that, Modavie stood out as being one of the best. Service was excellent, the decor & live music was great as well. The food......perfection! French Onion soup & the Duck Confit were both the best we've had yet. The'huge' bowl of local muscles was also the best. Highly recommended!!! 😀View more
Amazing dinner. Went here spontaneously on a Saturday at 7:30pm without a reservation with my boyfriend. Was sat immediately at the bar as all tables were reserved (totally get it, love sitting at the bar). The bartender was attentive & very talented as the cocktails we got were both superb. We ordered the snails as an app, I got the duck confit, & he got the lamb chops. We were given extra bread for the snail butter without asking. Waters always refilled. Meats cooked perfect. Live music was to die for. Got double espressos, crème brûlée, & profiteroles for dessert which were equally delicious. If I lived here I think I'd go every week.View more
Nice restaurant. The atmosphere is bustling. The service was good. Waiter was studious, but not very attentive. Staff to customer ratio may be the reason. The food was good. The rack of lamb was a little bit gamey. The desserts were phenomenal! We ordered the bone marrow appetizer, beef tartare, steak & fries, 2 kids menu (pasta & chicken nuggets), & the rack of lamb. Overall, the food was good. Place is clean & atmosphere is popping with the live music. Overall, a place to visit on special occasions.View more
Lovely restaurant in Old Montréal with live music from 7PM & a selection of lamb on the menu. The poutine was delicious & worth the added cost for the braised lamb. I was hoping to try the lamb pappardelle mentioned by other reviewers but it appears they've switched to cavatelli, which was cooked perfectly so no regrets! The only downside was that the lamb cavatelli was too rich & oily for my preference, otherwise would also highly recommend this. The lamb chops were decent, nothing spectacular. Great service & ambience for a date night.View more
The ambience & live music made this a perfect date night! The steak & fries were amazing & so was the poutine with fries & braised lamb.View more
