Modavie is a timeless place that brings us back to our roots, where ladies & gents gather and eat in a lively atmosphere caused by great conversation, live music and the wooden scents of a vintage room. Born in 1997, it quickly became popular among locals & visitors, and is now considered a Montreal institution.

Very aesthetic & pleasant atmosphere with live Jazz musician playing. Service is "ok" but staff are not to blame. I believe they are doing their best to take good care of their tables but has there is no bartender, they have to make the drinks/cocktails/coffees instade of having a bartender for all beverages in order too keep a good flow in the dinning room. Now, the food... very desapointed, my husband ordered their benedictines but his eegs were welldone & the potatoes were soft, unseasoned & bathing in grease. I ordered a salmon carpaccio that came with very old & dry blinis, dry raddish slices, there was suppose to have citrus but there were none so i asked for a side of lemon, it was also suppose to come with a dill oil, & again there was none. All i tasted was tarragon that was not mentioned in the tittle. I sad has it could be an amazing location for locals!View more

French restaurant. Server claims lamb is their specialty so I ordered the lamb chops & told the server I would have them however the chef recommends. I was with a big group & the lamb, while cooked medium, was room temperature. Tender, well seasoned. Service was good. Live jazz music was great. Would go back.View more

Modavie exceeded expectations on a Saturday night when our party of four managed to snag a table without a reservation, a pleasant surprise given the busy weekend atmosphere. From the moment we sat down, we were greeted with the lively ambiance of a live performance by Solane by Starlight Trio Swing, adding a charming jazz vibe to the evening. We began with a bottle of Chablis, Seguinot - Bordet 2022 - Chardonnay, a crisp & refreshing choice that paired well with the meal. For appetizers, we had the mussels & fries, a solid choice with mussels cooked perfectly, accompanied by crispy fries. The steak & fries followed, & though not the standout of the night, it was prepared to our liking. The salmon filet was the highlight, cooked to perfection with a great balance of flavors. To round off the night, we all shared two servings of the crème brûlée. A classic choice, it was executed well, providing a satisfying & sweet end to the meal. The ambiance, music, & food made for an enjoyable evening. Modavie offers a cozy, jazz-infused dining experience, especially great for a night out in Old Montreal.View more

We had a lovely meal here. The ceaser salad was so incredible! Also the lamb pasta, lamb chops & omg!.. the apple dessert! Whoa! That was so freaking good! The wine & cocktails were so Incredible. Honestly, everything was incredible. Modavie is doing great things. The live jazz created a beautiful environment & our waiter George provided excellent service 👏. The dinner & jazz band experience upstairs at Modavie seems very hard to top in Old Montreal. The service was extremely attentive & friendly, frequently checking on us & providing us with recommendations for a cocktail lounge following dinner. The food was exceptional; we had the lamb burger & steak & fries accompanied by Montrealer cocktails. The upstairs dining room was serenaded by a decent jazz band with a vocalist. I heard this is where the locals go to hear jazz music n have great food. We were lucky to get a reservation! Bread is served warm, the onion soup is amazing w 1608 cheese. Very unique. The salmon tartare is very good, the Niçoise salad was over dressed. The filet lignin was excellent. We were too full to order dessert. Great place.View more

Excellent bistro. Good jazz (but often more blues) guitarist upstairs, quiet enough for conversation. Attentive service staff. I had onion soup & mussels + frites, all of which was great. Wine selection was good, a bit more expensive than comparable places. Not an issue for us, but tables do turn - they indicated when we arrived that we only had the table for two hours.View more

Lamb cavatelli was fabulous. Linguini with shrimp & scallops was not bad by any means, just banal & I could honestly do better at home. Salmon was good. Seasonal vegetable side for $7 was ridiculously small once I have coughed up $30-40 for a meal with half a serving of veg. Sorry. Live jazz was stupidly loud in the one room Nad we moved before we sat.View more

Reservation highly recommended. It's a popular restaurant in Montreal old town & they have live music every night. However we were a little disappointed to find that it was not jazz/blues music on the day of our visit. Food is not tasty but portions are large. Northing to complain nor be impressed.View more

A great night out for you & your partner. Definitely leave a note on your reservations to sit near the live music on either 1st or 2nd floor. The food was good, however, for the price it's a little too expensive, but I guess you're paying for the experience of the live jazz as well. My partner & I ordered the steak & frites, & the duck confit. I would recommend both dishes if you're having a hard time choosing a meal. The in-house cocktail selection was great, especially the'blood orange squeeze' &'pineapple express', which I highly recommend.View more

We visited here on Memorial Day weekend from the U.S. This place was hard to find due to the construction, but it was crowded on Sunday. We ordered the brunch tower, small foie gras, & mimosas. The tower was impressive & caught the attention of other customers. I liked the salmon dish the most. The jazz band was also great. I definitely recommend this restaurant in Montreal.View more

We were called to this place by the foie gras. We had a late lunch so we only ordered appetizers, 4 of them. They were all good but the ones that shined most was the foie gras & the sweet bread. My wife was in heaven from the first bite to the last, euphoric they were. There was a smooth live jazz band playing that set a nice stage for the whole experience. The staff was spectacular as was the room. A definite must repeat.View more

We came on Saturday after 5pm mass at the Basilica & shockingly were able to get seated without a reservation. Good wine list & cocktails. I had the filet mignon. All the food was delicious, service was good & my 1 year old was dancing to the live jazz music! Great experience!View more

Friendly stuff. We arrived & they told us the kitchen closes in 30 minutes. Food came promptly & delicious. Crème brûlée had a crunchy top & sweet no stinky egg smell. Fois a gras was whole not past. Lamb chops were tender & well seasoned. They had live jazz but it was over when we got there. Parking is difficult at this time because the city has the whole street dug up even Uber couldn't drop us in front of the door. we had to walk then change sidewalks so we weren't sure if it's open or not but we got closer we saw like a bridge over construction to get to the door.View more

My friend & I decided to have dinner at this place due to the high ratings on Google. Now, after analyzing all the reviews, I realized they must be fake, since some of the images are repetitive. Everyone was raving about the food! First, the good things - the service was indeed excellent; our server was attentive & timely, & the hostess was accommodating, seating us upstairs so we could be a part of a jazz performance. We sat down & ordered our drinks, which were great! Then, we ordered bone marrow, foie gras, & scallops as appetizers. All of them were warm & tasted mediocre. Particularly, the foie gras came on top of a piece of bread, which was soaking through in fat. I understand that foie gras is very fatty, yet I was expecting the bread to provide a balancing bite, but it was so overpowering, I could not eat it. For the main course, we ordered lamb, which was highly recommended by other diners on Google (turns out they were fake reviews), & fries. The fries were soggy, & the lamb dish came out cold with all the soggy, sad-looking vegetables. I just could not eat it & asked our server to reheat it, which he did & I ate it afterwards. Initially, we wanted to have dessert, but after such a terrible food experience, we couldn't wait to go somewhere else instead! I don't know, maybe they were busy, & we had bad luck, yet the entire restaurant wasn't full. We won't be returning!View more
