Among the pioneers of Japanese cuisine in Montreal back in 1987, Mikado first opened with an 80-seat capacity and only two employees. But through the magic of word of mouth, Mikado expanded and can now welcome 130 guests in a pleasant, family-style and laid back environment conducive to appreciation of great food. Kimio Nguyen, the chef-owner, now has under his wing a wonderful team of over 40 loyal and attentive professionals whose culinary philosophy is based on Japanese tradition while taking into account the eclectic tastes of Montrealers. Three basic elements underpin Mikado's philosophy: creativity, simplicity and balance. Creativity to dazzle with original dishes; simplicity to allow for the experience of full unadulterated flavours; and balance to beautifully bring together tastes, textures, ingredients and colours. Checked out Mikado for their night menu & was really impressed. The food was fresh & well made, & the pricing was very fair. The place itself is cozy with great vibes, which made the whole experience even better. Special mention to our server who was attentive & took great care of us throughout the night. Would happily return.
Mikado is a stylish, upscale spot with excellent sushi. We arrived in rain jackets since we were visiting, & the host initially asked if we were picking up - which made us feel a bit unwelcome despite having a reservation.
But the experience completely turned around thanks to our waitress. She was warm, friendly, & attentive, & really made us feel comfortable. The food was fresh & beautifully prepared.
A great meal overall, with service that truly made the difference.

I loved everything about this restaurant from start to finish.
The food was incredibly fresh, full of flavor, & beautifully presented. The drinks were just as impressive-creative, refreshing, & perfectly paired with the meal.
The atmosphere was warm & inviting, & every staff member we encountered was professional, attentive, & genuinely friendly. It's rare to find a place that gets everything right, but this one truly does.
I will absolutely be coming back & highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great dining experience.'
Food is fresh & delicious. There is an array of options for everyone's tastes/preferences (raw fish, vegetarian, etc.) The service was excellent. The employees were professional & attentive. I highly recommend sitting at the sushi bar for a unique experience.

I heard a lot about this sushi place in Montreal, so I decided to try it myself. The atmosphere was fantastic, & our waiter was genuinely friendly & attentive. While the food was decent, I did feel the quality could have been a bit higher considering the price. That said, it was still enjoyable overall, & I'd recommend it for a date night.

Elegant & organic atmosphere after their recent renovation. Kind & attentive service by William. Tasty & beautifully presented sushi. It had been many years since I've been to this restaurant & I plan to return soon.
Nous avons vécu une expérience gastronomique incroyable au Mikado ! Dès notre entrée, le service a été impeccable. Le personnel était attentif, amical & connaissait bien le menu. La nourriture était absolument remarquable. Chaque plat était magnifiquement présenté & débordait de saveurs. Les boissons étaient tout aussi impressionnantes, avec une grande sélection de cocktails & de vins qui complétaient parfaitement notre repas. Nous avons suivi les recommandations du propriétaire, Tin, & nous n'avons pas été déçus ! L'atmosphère est chaleureuse & accueillante, ce qui en fait l'endroit idéal pour un repas décontracté ou une occasion spéciale. J'ai hâte d'y retourner pour découvrir d'autres plats de la carte. Amazing. The new look inside is elevated but relaxing with a speak easy vibe bar & outstanding food. Favourites were the Cod on soba noodles, lobster roll & shrimp gyoza. Service was extremely attentive, friendly & every dish was explained in detail. Delicious veggie options - there's something here for everyone. Extensive cocktail & tea menu with decadent dessert. Will definitely be coming back here!
Dining at Restaurant Mikado Laurier is an experience I highly recommend. Their newly renovated space combines a chic, modern ambiance with the best quality sushi & impeccable service. The service is outstanding, with attentive & knowledgeable staff who enhance the dining experience with their recommendations & warm hospitality. Of course, the highlight is the sushi itself, crafted with the freshest ingredients & beautifully displayed.

Returned after the renovations. Ambience was spectacular, food & drinks were delicious. Owners & staff are kind & attentive. I would highly recommend this restaurant for dinner or drinks.
