Set in the heart of Villeray, Mesón is a casual, one of a kind bistro offering a variety of comforting and original Spanish inspired dishes. At Mesón, one can expect to be enthusiastically received by the restaurant’s young and dynamic team.
At the head of the team are the restaurant’s four owners: Victor Afonso, Sébastien Muniz, Marie-Fleur St-Pierre and Pedro Oliveira. The group shares a true love for the flavourful cooking the Iberian peninsula is known for.
The culinary experience at Mesón is enhanced by a courteous service and an appealing decor. The menu’s specialties, as combined with a pleasant atmosphere, are sure to satisfy your longing for delectable food enjoyed in the good company of friends.
Mesón earns praise for attentive service and a warm, convivial atmosphere that can feel quaint and intimate or lively depending on the night. The tapas and brunch scenes are lauded for flavor and shareability, with standout items such as pulpo a la gallega, secreto iberico, gravlax, saumon mariné, croquetas, and paella, though the paella is sometimes too salty or not up to par. Desserts divide opinions, with the Basque cheesecake disappointing some while the éclair is a recommended finish. Prices are viewed as reasonable for the overall quality by many, yet some feel value is uneven and portions or quality have fluctuated as prices rise. Service is described as impeccable and attentive in many visits, but a few experiences note colder or rushed service and changes in atmosphere. Music can be loud, occasionally affecting conversation. Overall Mesón is seen as a solid neighbourhood spot for gatherings with friends or family, offering good food, strong drinks, and a welcoming vibe, with some variability in dishes and consistency across visits.
Very cozy spot in Villeray. Staff was very friendly & very knowledgable & passionate about the menu. Ordered a variety of platitos calientes & they were all very good. The Iberico pork with tomatoes & the Shrimp brochettes were the best.
The food was soggy... (that's not a compliment) We ordered some calamares bravas it tasted like it had just sit in the kitchen for 30 min in the sauce. Also tried the Paella... same issue. What makes a Paella great is the little overcook underneath. We also tried the churros & well this time they were way overcooked. In general, this restaurant should not consider itself "spanish" or "spanish inspired" its a real shame.
Absolutely outstanding! This gem in Villeray is a culinary paradise that deserves all the accolades it receives. From the moment you step inside, you're greeted with a warm & inviting atmosphere that sets the stage for an unforgettable dining experience. Let's talk about the food - it's nothing short of spectacular. Each dish is a work of art, meticulously crafted with the finest ingredients & bursting with flavor. The menu is a culinary journey that celebrates the best of local & seasonal produce, & every bite is a testament to the chef's skill & creativity. Whether you're a fan of classic favorites or adventurous enough to try something new, this restaurant has something to delight every palate. But it's not just the food that's exceptional - the service is impeccable. The staff are knowledgeable, attentive, & passionate about ensuring that every guest has a memorable time. Their genuine enthusiasm for the cuisine is infectious, & they are more than happy to provide recommendations & share their expertise. Ask for Louis-Simon. He's the man! The ambiance is another highlight. The cozy yet elegant decor creates an intimate setting that's perfect for everything from a romantic dinner for two to a lively gathering with friends. It's the kind of place where you can truly unwind & savor each moment. In conclusion, this restaurant is a true standout in Villeray. If you're in search of a dining experience that's elevated in every way, look no further. Prepare to be wowed by the amazing food, impeccable service, & inviting ambiance. It's an absolute must-visit for anyone who appreciates the finer things in life.
One of the best brunches ever. Gravlax de Trucha: Trout gravlax, goat cheese whipped with pepper, herring caviar, cucumber, radish, poached egg, toast. Well located with a great atomosphere, it was so delicious & we had a great time. The menu is various & everything was so good.
This is my favourite restaurant! It never disappoints. I've been here for breakfast & dinner! The quality of the food is absolutely amazing. The service is impeccable!! When in doubt always chose Meson!
Excellent service, courtois & plein de gentillesse ! Deux tapas & coca (pizza espagnol) à deux & ce fût parfait. Excellent vin au verre aussi. Resto où on peut se parler sans entendre les autres ! À retourner sans hésitation !

Great service, wine & atmosphere, but food is at most ordinary. It was my second time there, but the last one unfortunately.... & I'm not that difficult. I love simplicity in food, but nothing was really carried out well, & I had the same experience the first time.
