Not a bad pub! I used to come here more often but I haven't in awhile. Today I sat on the patio. They usually have live music on certain days where people come up & sing. Nothing to complain about.
I ordered the homemade Irish stew. I really hated it. Maybe it's just not to my tastes, but it was not what I was expecting at all. I've had the Irish stew at Ye Olde Orchard & it's amazing, I've even posted about it before. Theirs was creamy & had a rich savory flavor of Guinness. By contrast this Irish stew at McKibbins was very tangy & sour, almost like there was vinegar in it. It made it taste like the soup was rotten or spoiled. I tried tasting individual pieces (carrot, potato, meat) to see if there was something I could avoid, but everything was saturated with it, especially the meat. The only thing that tasted good to me was the dollop of mashed potatoes on top & the bun that came with it. The bun was very moist & delicious with a subtle sweet flavor. It was a shame because it was pretty expensive, $23 before tip & I had to throw out the rest because I just couldn't finish it. Perhaps this type of Irish stew is more authentic & I just made a regrettable decision for my taste buds. I just wanted to warn others if they were similarly expecting something akin to Ye Olde Orchard. I will say that the pub had a nice atmosphere & the staff seemed very friendly, knowledgeable & attentive. Maybe they have other things that would appeal to my palate. The decor was charming, with a little matching door for "leprechauns".
Tried the Pub after many years & it's was good. My wife ordered the soup "Very Hot" & she says it was really good. I ordered the Shepherd's Pie & it was a little too wet but still OK. Came with nice salad so overall the meal was very good & great value for the price. Drinks were also lower price for 4 a 7. Overall a flood experience & seemed like a lot of regulars there enjoying them selves. A little run down & old looking as only complaint. Waitress was very good too.
Nice bar with good selection. They got karaoke too Server was very attentive. Great place for drinks & pub food. Service was quick & efficient, drinks were well made & food was actually very delicious. I will definitely be going back. Nice atmosphere too.
No matter when I have gone, the service was excellent & the food was great, with only one exception & that was at least ten years ago. My absolute favourite is the fish & chips & although I don't enjoy anything too spicy, their curry sauce - go dip those chips! - is amazing. I also like the cider, which is a nice change from all the other drinks. I go as often as I can, just to relax & enjoy the pubs offerings.
Still horrified after being served nachos on top of a pile of someone elses' soggy leftover nachos (from previous order). Staff had done a great job at covering it up... That is, until my friend & I realized, about halfway through. This happened a couple of years ago, hope management & staff have changed since. I would never recommend this place to anyone. I feel disgusted & angry, each & every time I pass by Mckibbins Pub West island.
Today I visited this Pub with a friend for the first time. We sat outside to have a nice lunch on a beautiful hot day. We ordered a vegetarian burger & the flank steak salad which were well prepared & presented. Too bad the chef/kitchen did a good job with the food to have a waitress ruin it. From beginning to end we were very polite, however she acted as if she didn't want to be there & as if we were not welcomed. Just because the food was good I left a good tip (I hope the kitchen is in) because she didn't deserve it. Maybe she would be better off keeping the place clean instead of interacting with customers.
