Mariposa is located on Côte Saint-Luc Road, in the N.D.G. district of Montreal.
It is a very friendly bistro where one can enjoy various live performances on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. A true 60’s style bistro in the 21st century!
Mariposa offers delicious breakfasts accompanied by Delicioso Espresso, a coffee made with roasted beans imported from Italy. It also serves a vast variety of sandwiches and the freshest salads, and on Sundays they prepare a tasty brunch.
During musical evenings, dinner is served between 6pm and 9pm. Bring your friends, your family, your children and your mother, and rest assured that everyone will have an unforgettable time!
Mariposa comes across as a lively cafe with a welcoming vibe, offering a varied menu that includes vegetarian options and solid pub fare alongside a strong drinks list. Live music is the centerpiece, featuring a diverse lineup and a weekly open mic on Wednesdays that attract a warm, multi-generational crowd and a genuine sense of community. The atmosphere is described as subtle and quirky, enriched by local art and music memorabilia and a well curated liquor collection that includes a memorable cosmopolitan style martini. The food earns frequent praise, from a smoked meat sandwich and superb fries to a chicken dish cooked to perfection and a side salad, with pizza noted as nice though portions vary. Pricing sits on the higher side, a tradeoff that some reviewers see as supporting the music and performers, while the venue remains fully licensed. Staff are repeatedly called friendly and patient, contributing to a comfortable experience. Overall, Mariposa is viewed as a hidden gem in the city, a place to eat, enjoy live jazz and other performances, and feel part of a welcoming musical community.
Vic Label thank you for running this place. Guitarists & musicians & singer alike have a wonderful home to play, listen & eat.
Service. Super friendly.
Food. Good especially the organic hot smoked meat sandwich.
Environment. Nothing fancy, quite casual but clean & comfortable.
If you want to enjoy yourself or with friends this is the pace to be. If you're a musician they have instruments for you to play or bring your own. The sound technician is great & the sound quality is too.
Every Thursday people come & just play & it's fantastic. I will no be coming every Thursday & hopefully I will one day go up to the stage & play a song on my guitar.
Mariposa is a Montreal gem. Victor is such a gracious host & the variety & quality of the live music artists & events is unparalleled. We love Mariposa, the music, the food, & Victor!

It was my first visit to Cafe Mariposa but it won't be my last . My smoked meat sandwich was good , fries were some of the best that I've ever tasted & Our server David was so genuine & kind. When my friends & I arrived we could feel the welcoming & friendly vibe . The 8 piece band ( including piano & saxophone ) band was great , playing lots of rock & roll favourites!! A real NDG gem
The open mic host was a true professional & the way it was managed so cool . Anyone who wants to sing it's a good spot to try
The pizza was nice . The portion was a maybe 8 inch across ( maybe more or less I did not measure ) it came already sliced
I liked the texture . Melt in the mouth.
The chicken was cooked to perfection.
Came with a salad .
The price is a bit up there which I think helps support music performers
but overall a good place to go to hear music .
I was smitten by the taste of the Mariposa martini. You read right, a novel elixir created by none other than Victor (cafe owner & mixologist extraordinaire).
The extensive liquor collection is something that this cafe should be proud of.
Now for the'music', Mariposa is a music den, the best way to enjoy is when music is LIVE. This cafe has such an extensive line up of talent, one needs to check the website frequently.
Ambience, one can easily go from a negative mood to a satisfying mood, by the warm & friendly staff that work there.
They really do make you feel like you are part of the Mariposa community.
Thank you to Victor, Laure, David & Fiona (peekaboo, I see you over the counter!)
See you very very soon!

I have been a patron, as a diner, music listener & musical community member, of Mariposa Café for the past nine months & feel I finally found the place I've been looking for in Montréal.
Owned by a super talented Montréal musician, Mariposa Café hosts a diverse range of authentic musicians who attract a warm, genuine, multi-generational crowd of music appreciative people.
They offer a wide variety of dishes; even vegetarian. Their small staff are always courteous & patient. The owner, who bartends, has created his own marvellous version of a Cosmopolitan from his eclectic liquor collection (Note: it is blue rather than red).
The atmosphere is subtle & quirky, with local artist's works, for example, paintings by Susan Shulman, & tons of music memorabilia from the owners' personal collection.
I could go on but then the review would be too long for the modern attention span.
Great experience for us.
Mariposa is a hidden gem!
Great food, great service & live Jazz music by the Steven Rosen loom Quartet, proved extraordinaire!
🎶❤?👏🏻✨
Enjoyed my evening here, listening to the musical artist , who played for almost 3 hours straight. Only ate some sweet potato fries, which were very good, & had a glass of wine. I guess it's the norm now that a small glass of wine costs over 12$. Which I find is a little much.

Great service & it's a quality place for live music. Overall Mariposa is a good experience, but the food side of things is mediocre. Some prices on the menu are bonkers. $22 for a veggie burger meal? $12 for three samosas? Some of the food decisions are questionable too, like throwing greasy fried onions on top of the samosas (which are supposed to be hand food) & then serving them with sour cream. With the high prices I thought they were paying the performer, but apparently they don't.
